How is Dembele a mercenary?
Only interested in a permanent deal, shows that he doesnt believe in his ability to impress. Probably reckons he can get five seasons at 250k barely playing.

Very true. But those who have been very happy to join such as Maguire, AWB and James have been awful too. Sometimes it's about getting the right qualities in and then down to the manager to get them working for the team.Mercenary is the wrong word for sure. Apathetic perhaps? My question is why do we want players who we have to kill ourselves over to convince them to join us? That hasn't ended well for us recently and I'm sick of this club being an island full of misfit toys.
And let it drag out for ever no doubtWe seem happy to join the race for Upamecano next summer, not saying I agree with that approach but just looks that way to me
Yeah, I agree with that, it's just mercenary is the wrong word to use.its reminicent of DiMaria, plus this guy it appears cant stay fit. Not the players fault, just goes against the spiel the club churn out about culture reset etc
They’re desperate to get rid. He doesn’t look like a Koeman typeWe should be looking at a loan signing with an obligation to buy subject to him being available for selection for 75% of our games this season.
If Barcelona reject the clause then walk away.

Supposedly Liverpool wanted him but he rejected them, wanting to play instead of being second choice to Mane and Salah. Doesn't sound like a mercenary to me and instead desperate to prove himself. The Sancho or nobody attitude is getting boring, if Dembele can stay fit he’d be as a good a signing and miles better than anything we’ve got right now. Rest assured if we don’t get Sancho and Dembele ends up somewhere else, stays fit and performs this forum would go into meltdown.
It looks like Dembele sees that Barca don't really want him anymore, and he likely won't get another contract there. So he's wanting a permanent deal so he can get a fresh long contract from a club with big money. A loan just winds down his current contract further.
I may well be entirely wrong here, but given his injury history and these rumours about his attitude, it doesn't paint a promising picture.
People like making thoughtless comments. How is Dembele a mercenary?

Just a few conclusions jumped to there mate well done.
The fee needs to be low enough to balance the risk that his injury troubles persist and we'll be paying wages for nothing. Include sell on clauses if needed but keep it bloody low.

Yep, sadly, I'm with ya pal.Don't ever see Sancho joining now, therefore I have decided to accept that fact now
That's your opinion though. He could also want to be settled at a club to restart his career rather then jump from club to club. All players want to feel wanted, nothing wrong with that. But only if he is guaranteed 250k a week for the next 5 years
What fee are we talking

Which is why I’d take a punt on him is we can negotiate a reasonable fee and contract.Supposedly Liverpool wanted him but he rejected them, wanting to play instead of being second choice to Mane and Salah. Doesn't sound like a mercenary to me and instead desperate to prove himself.

It's all fecking made up bullshit mateWhy would we negotiate personal terms if it's a loan? I reckon we'll get him permanently.
£200k, permanent move here would have to see him get more you would assumeAnyone knows how much is he on a week with Barca?
Or that the full transfer fee is heavily reliant on him being fit and playing. Like say €25 million guaranteed fee Up front with €30 million after 100 appearances Or something like that.
I can see your point. The way I see it, if it doesn't work out I think we can still get back 20-30 mil for a player of his talent. His youth plays a big role here.Yep its all opinions. I would be willing to try and prove myself given that noone could really be expected to stump up 250k week for someone who has not played in 2020, and has barely played since August 2019. Yet he feels he is owed a 5 year contract at massive wages based on what exactly?
For the right player, it is absolutely the correct attitude. Klopp had the same with VVD, it didn't turn out too shabbily for him.The Sancho or nobody attitude is getting boring, if Dembele can stay fit he’d be as a good a signing and miles better than anything we’ve got right now. Barca won't do that, they will consider 65m a knock down bargain price
Klopp is an elite manager who can turn good players into very good players and very good players into world class ones. Unfortunately we don’t have that and rely on individual moments of brilliance. As I said in the other thread, if we do land Sancho don’t expect the same level of output he gives Dortmund. For the right player, it is absolutely the correct attitude. Klopp had the same with VVD, it didn't turn out too shabbily for him.
What's the non knocked down price then?
Havertz just went for 75 million is Dembele any better than the German?
