Sanctity, like a cat, abhors filth.
I quite enjoy these threads when they come up, when you look at the upcoming batch of games and try to work out how many points you think you can get from them.

The next six games take us to the end of November. Three games against teams who will also have ambitions to win the PL. Its going to be tough. But by the time these are done we should have a clearer idea of how this season is going to pan out, both for us and some of our rivals.

Liverpool v Man Utd - 17 Oct - W

Chelsea v Man Utd - 23 Oct - D

Man Utd v Burnley - 29 Oct - W

Swansea v Man Utd - 6 Nov - W

Man Utd v Arsenal - 19 Nov - D

Man Utd v West Ham - 27 Nov - W

I reckon we can get 14 points from this lot. But then Im all about the optimism.

Maybe we can get 9 points from this lot. But then I'm also all about the optimism :D

Pool - D
Chelsea - D
Burnley - W
Swansea - W
Arsenal - L
West ham - W

11 Points.

To give the full picture (even if you are only talking about the PL points from these 6 games) I think it's helpful to show the fixtures that come in-between these games. Which will show other influences like distances travelled, strength of mid-week oppo, rest between games etc that are not being taken into account at the mo:

PL: Liverpool v Man Utd - 17 Oct - D
EL: Man Utd v Fenerbahçe - 20 Oct - W
PL: Chelsea v Man Utd - 23 Oct - D
LC: Man Utd v Man City - 26 Oct - W
PL: Man Utd v Burnley - 29 Oct - W
EL: Fenerbahçe v Man Unt - 3 Nov - W
PL: Swansea v Man Utd - 6 Nov - W

PL: Man Utd v Arsenal - 19 Nov - D
EL: Man Utd v Feyenoord - 24 Nov - W
PL: Man Utd v West Ham - 27 Nov - W

Total PL 12 pts
(optimistic ones at that)

Poo 3pts
Ski 3pts
Burnley 3pts
Swansea 1pt
Arsenal 3pts
Bubble 3pts

16 pts....

A nice little unbeaten run developing there....

That's that's the essence of it. I am talked myself into a certain level of confidence that Mourinho is starting to get to grips with things now - based on nothing much other than, as I said before, optimism. We have a good squad, good players. We have a good, astute manager. We had an awful preseason, plenty of upheaval with changes in style and new players coming in etc, and our confidence has been low. But we've had time to get to grips with the new circumstances of this season now. So yes, I feel we can put an unbeaten run together, and hopefully win more games than we draw.

Liverpool - L
Chelsea - D
Burnley - W

West Ham - W

I make it 11.

12 for me. I expect us to win at Burnley, Swansea, West Ham. One win out of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal.

Wow, a 10 match unbeaten run - you really think we're going to turn around our bad form!

Judgiung by the gap between the Arsenal and Swansea games I'm guessing we are just 3 weeks from another boring International break. :(

Not many giving us a chance against pool, thats the one Im confident about.

I'm guessing 9 points

This may seem highly unrealistic to some but I believe our players are very close to clicking and so is the team. Like the poster above, I believe the results in Europa League will impact our confidence in PL and vice versa and I will really struggle to predict United's scoreline and form in EL simply because Mourinho will play the 2nd team and may experiment around a little.

Another factor in our favor is most of the games United might get in trouble are followed by a home game so I don't expect out form to dip down too much. If everything goes right in EL, I predict our form to be something like :-

PL: Liverpool v Man Utd - 17 Oct - W (3-0)
EL: Man Utd v Fenerbahçe - 20 Oct - W
PL: Chelsea v Man Utd - 23 Oct - D
LC: Man Utd v Man City - 26 Oct - L
PL: Man Utd v Burnley - 29 Oct - W
EL: Fenerbahçe v Man Unt - 3 Nov - D
PL: Swansea v Man Utd - 6 Nov - W
PL: Man Utd v Arsenal - 19 Nov - D
EL: Man Utd v Feyenoord - 24 Nov - W
PL: Man Utd v West Ham - 27 Nov - W

Total of 14 points from a possible 18. Happy days.

Extremely important to get at least 14 points if we want to keep up with City, as their next 6 will be:

Everton H
Barca CL A
So’ton H
United EFL A
West Brom A
Barca CL H
Boro H
Palace A

M’gladbach CL A
Burnley A

Feck me, that’s an easy one. City’s december though will have Chelsea, Leicester, Arsenal & Liverpool. If they get 9-10 points from those...

Yeah that is a bit of a concern, we need to be getting as many points as possible from our games because City could conceivably be getting 16 or 18 points from those games, we cant let them pull even further ahead so we are going into December 10 points behind or something.

I think you'll get a result against Arsenal given how they normally don't handle Old Trafford very well.

You should beat Swansea, Burnley and West Ham but Chelsea and Liverpool are harder games to call.

It has a season defining look to it.

Ive actually got a worse feeling about the Arsenal game than the Liverpool and Chelsea ones. After Mourinho mocked Wenger last year for his awful run against him, it feels like it might be time for Wenger to redress the balance a bit.

 I didn't mean to leave all the "W"s in on the non-PL games actually - hadn't even bothered to predict them. The "W" just happened to be on the master one I copied and pasted.

Strangely enough looking over them, they are all winnable – even the City one (depending how seriously Mourinho / Pep take the League Cup).

The PL games I think might be a tad optimistic are the obvious ones: "pool, Chelsea and Arsenal. But knowing us we'll stroll them and Burnley will beat us at home

I always enjoy these threads as well. I often ponder different outcomes before posting and end up being entirely wrong. For this, I will go on record and state we'll take 18 points from those 6 games.

Liverpool v Man Utd - 17 Oct - L
Chelsea v Man Utd - 23 Oct - D
Man Utd v Burnley - 29 Oct - W
Swansea v Man Utd - 6 Nov - D
Man Utd v Arsenal - 19 Nov - D
Man Utd v West Ham - 27 Nov - W

9 points unless Jose finds the answer.

I see us getting 8 points if we are lucky. I think the game against Liverpool will be a bloodbath for both defenses, but I think Liverpool will come up on top.

Liverpool v Man Utd - 17 Oct - Loss/draw

Chelsea v Man Utd - 23 Oct - draw/win

Man Utd v Burnley - 29 Oct - win

Swansea v Man Utd - 6 Nov - Win

Man Utd v Arsenal - 19 Nov - win

Man Utd v West Ham - 27 Nov - win

Probably what I expect from these. Not confident away to liverpool, hope for a draw. Away to chelsea we are better but the whole mourinho subplot, back at stamford bridge and being away, probably a draw but hope for win. The rest we should be winning them all, and lets not forget that Mourinho always beats Arsenal.

Liverpool v Man Utd - 17 Oct - L
Chelsea v Man Utd - 23 Oct - L
Man Utd v Burnley - 29 Oct - W
Swansea v Man Utd - 6 Nov - W
Man Utd v Arsenal - 19 Nov - D
Man Utd v West Ham - 27 Nov - W

Can´t see us get anything against Liverpool or Chelsea away and i wouldn´t be surprised if we drop points away against Swansea as well.

Gonna be quite a lot of hiding behind the sofa for that lot I reckon.

I'll happily take 3 points from our next two. Combining Liverpool's form and our record at Chelsea, I'm expecting one point from those two.

PL: Liverpool (1) v (3) Man Utd - 17 Oct - W (All the pressure will be on them. Besides, got a feeling this game is made for pogba)
EL: Man Utd (1) v (0) Fenerbahçe - 20 Oct -W (Boring game)
PL: Chelsea (1) v (1) Man Utd - 23 Oct - D (A game of two halves)
LC: Man Utd (2) v (1) Man City - 26 Oct - W (Revenge! Pep's nightmare continues)
PL: Man Utd (3) v (0) Burnley - 29 Oct - W (Easy win)
EL: Fenerbahçe (1) v (1) Man Utd - 3 Nov - D (Another shite Europa performance)
PL: Swansea (2) v (1) Man Utd - 6 Nov - L (Game raising cnuts)

PL: Man Utd (2) v (1) Arsenal - 19 Nov - W (Somethings never change :) )
EL: Man Utd (1) v (0) Feyenoord - 24 Nov - W (Boring game)
PL: Man Utd (4) v (1) West Ham - 27 Nov - W (Zlatan hattrick. Payet consolation)

Total PL 13 pts

if wishes were horses

You sure are!

This post-Fergie era has completely drained my usual confidence about United. I'm kind of dreading Monday, as I can see us getting an awful hammering. I had similar thoughts about the derby and that didn't end well either. Hopefully there will be some good results in these next six games but, right now, I have us a good way short of Liverpool and Arsenal but hopefully marginally better than Chelsea. I don't see us winning all the other games either. If I was a betting man I'd go with a maximum of 10 points at the end of this run and mass despair on the caf. Not a snowball's chance in hell of racking up 14 points. Obviously, I really hope I'm wrong.
