Oscars 2011

Hope Social Network gets the best picture, mind you that will probably not happen and I've barely seen other movies from the list.

Odds changing, King's Speech is 2/5 now, used to be much, much shorter.

King's Speech will get the best picture too.

No

Typical over-hyped British film, much like The English Patient.

Ridiculous that The Social Network didn't get best film.

I think The Social Network is a typical over-hyped American film - it's not that great at all.

Inception was much better imo.

I thought that was ridiculously over hyped myself.

But then, I didn't really think the Hurt Locker was everything it was lauded as last year either. Good films but not era defining or anything for me.

But then, I hate critics and think award shows are a total waste of time.

It's the academy, it's a specific criteria or film, just like Cannes has it's own criteria of film. Both Kings Speech and Social Network are worthy winners, great film, not the best of the year, but I wouldn't expect Another Year to ever win anyway.

The highlight was James Franco's arse in the leotard at the beginning. The rest of the ceremony was quite dull. I hate those wooden 'gags' you get between two people as they're dragged out to present an award, it's so fake and unnecessary.

The social network is far inferior to inception.

Thought that was one of the dullest Oscars I've ever seen. Golden Globes and Bafta's were infinitely more entertaining.

David Fincher is really underrated. I'd say he's miles better than Nolan at directing a film.

If I had a great script I'd give it to Fincher first than anyone else.

Fincher is like the most highly rated "modern"-ish director around. Just because he gets snubbed by the Oscars doesn't make him underrated all of a sudden.

The problem for the Social Network, well on Finchers part at least, is that it feels more like a "Sorkin" film than it does a Fincher film, and Sorkin was rewarded. Whereas Hopper wasn't working off one of the best, if not the best in mainstream TV/film, screenwriters around. But then again, he wasn't directing Justin Timberlake either.

The Fighter was the best movie, and I have seen pretty much all of the nominated ones.

Social Network was average. Don't see what was the hoopla about. Maybe to the older folks it was a revelation how facebook came about.

King's speech was a safe choice, british, drama, proper, etc.

Inception was not for everybody, me included, and I love those kind of movies.

Toy Story was great, but it is a cartoon.

I would have ranked Black Swan as No2.

True Grit should not have been even nominated, but was there due to the Cohen brothers effect.

I thought The Ghost Writer should have been nominated, but it does not jive well with the sentiment at the academy.

The Fighter shouldn't have even been nominated. Generic as hell boxing film.

Personally I thought that was a captivating film, obviously this year was a dry one in terms of great films so I don't think it's surprising it was nominated.

Who is Fincher underrated by? He's considered one of the top directors in the industry. Everyone wanted The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but only one man was ever honestly in the running.

Nolan is a writer/director, and they're a completely different beast entirely.

Have to say I'm surprised at all the success of The King's Speech. I thought it was a good film and came out of the cinema thinking "I thoroughly enjoyed that". But I think that when I've just had a takeaway from my local Chinese, and they certainly won't be winning any Michelin stars soon.

The King's speech was great toward the last 30 minutes. Great culmination of the events, but for the first hour it was boring as hell.

The King's Speech wasn't that good, but it won because pretty much everything about it was tailor-made specifically for winning Oscars. What a load of balls.
