Omar Berrada | Man Utd CEO

No idea who he was 30 minutes ago but seems a decent appointment and a clear indication of how INEOS are going to approach the football side of the club which is good news.

More than decent. This is a statement.

Seen Ducker saying he won’t start “formally until the summer “

What does that actually mean?

Not gonna lie. Never heard of the guy. What will he bring?…

I’m just happy it’s actually a football man that’s gotten the job haha. I’m not going to pretend I have a clue what he does at City or even what he will do with us, but getting a fella in with actual honest to god football experience is such a step up.

“It is our stated ambition to re-establish Manchester United as a title-winning club. We are pleased that Omar will be joining us to help achieve that goal, so that, once again, United fans can see, in the words of Sir Matt Busby, the red flag flying high at the summit of English, European and world football.”
:)

SJR really showing up a lot of people who were so against him and were desperate to pull their pants down for Qatar.
Doing absolutely everything right so far.

I just wonder whether us signing him means that City aren't going to get punished severely for their cheating.
If they do, it makes no sense for United to sign someone who by all means must have known about the shady stuff,
and therefore would be held accountable for some of it.

Even if I manage to put that aside, well... it's so fecking hard to get excited about a Utd signing, off or on the pitch.

Hopefully this guy I never heard of will do brilliantly in one of the toughest jobs in world football at the moment.
One can surely hope.

On paper it sounds like a great appointment. Want to focus on the future but it really is annoying seeing a press release where the club admit that football hasn’t been a consideration for a very long time.
Next step: get “football club” back on the badge

So he was a CEO that wasn't involved in City's systematic cheating happening on his watch. Of course he will have presumably known nothing about it all too. He certainly sounds like the finger on the pulse, switched on guy his reputation suggests. Something's just not sitting right with this for me yet.

Apparently worked in the media department at Barcelona, and started in the commercial side of Man City before moving to the football side in 2020 only.

Strange that this place is so happy when the recurring complaint on the Caf was to get people with « proven track record » and not people from commercial background.

That might be one of the best club statements I've read from United in the past few years.

So we are signing City rejects now...would have never happened if Sheikh Jassim had brought United....... :D :D :wenger:

Very interesting…a step well and truly in the right direction.

Also it’s nice that the ITK journalists had no clue about it until it was happening.

Well done United and Sir Jim

His resume actually shows he’s not a football man.

Worked in media and commercial side of Barca and City for 17 years. He only became « Chief Footballing Officer » in 2020

What did he do exactly in those roles?

Don’t think he is jumping a sinking ship. Apparently he had offers in summer from Prem and foreign clubs for the same role he is taking at United but turned them down.

It could legitimately be a case of a promotion in role and United being too big to turn down.

Think of the challenge. One of the top 3 biggest clubs in the world. You get the chance to be a major force to reviving it on a football and commercial side. It’s a dream challenge for all highly motivated people. When you know you’re not working with unlimited funds that also makes the project more exciting because it tests your skills even more.
Yeah I suppose you and others are right and I've been thinking the same as the days gone on. Getting United back to the best and being at the club when it happens must be much more satisfying than anything City have done to be brutally honest.

He is also going to go from a relatively unknown employee at board level for City to our CEO and a household name overnight.

It's a very positive move for the club.

Can’t say I’ve heard of him but after months of links to multiple different people for this position it’s nice to see us actually appoint someone. It’s not going to be an immediate fix but let’s hope it’s becomes a smart appointment along with whoever becomes our new DOF

What did he do exactly in those roles?
Hard to say in details as I just checked his Linkedin profile to be honest and he didn’t detail his missions.

But he appears to me as mostly a commercial guy by formation and by trade.

I don’t have any particular views on his nomination though. Football is a very peculiar industry where track record is rarely indicative of future success when a person switches club.

He might come good, he might not. But I hope he will come good

Never heard of him and no idea what he does but I’m just glad how this came from nowhere With nobody getting a sniff.

hopefully we will do all our business this quietly and efficiently Going forward.

You realise he's coming in as CEO not director of football?

He has plenty of experience for a CEO role. Football decisions regarding the squad will still sit with the incoming director of football.

Yeah that’s fantastic experience for the CEO of a football club. Infinitely more football experience than either Woodward or Arnold had. By football man, we aren’t talking about ex-player or ex-manager or even a DOF, because he’s not coming in as a DOF. But someone actually involved in the football side of the business which this lad has been alongside his lengthy experience on the business side.

Would be interested to know how we managed to get him to join from City

Wonder how much involvement he had with the 115 charges

Can only hope he's left as a) we have finally been able to demonstrate ambition and b) hes jumping ship because he thinks relegation can be the only outcome for 115 charges FC

Hes a guy that has his fingers all over the place. Player transactions, partnership negotiations, startups, media officer. A bold octopus, if you will.
