Olympic Tennis

That's how the new no. 1 of the world does it. No domination over him by one player, gets beaten a few weeks ago by djokovic, immediately rapes him back.

Respect.

What a hardcourt season this guy is playing, and it's his weakest surface as well going by past results/performances... he conquered clay, then conquered grass, now it's the hardcourt he'll slowly but surely conquer. He'll win the US Open and Aussie Open soon enough.

Improving so fast and still so young.

Has anyone else seen the Blake Gonzalez incident?

Embarassing from Gonzalez. But that's sport, nowadays

The only thing that could stop him is potential burnout/injuries.

Otherwise he's well on his way to becoming the next Thomas Muster :wenger:

Yeah I want to know about that too have not seen it yet. I read Blake was accusing him of poor sportsmanship:

"Playing in the Olympics, in what's supposed to be considered a gentleman's sport, that's a time to call it on yourself. Fernando looked me square in the eye and didn't call it,"

"That's a disappointing way to exit the tournament when you not only lose the match, but you lose a little faith in your fellow competitor,"

Its on the BBC site, he clearly nicked it

Pleased Nadal won, was a real tricky encounter.

Djokovic knew what he had to do, take the ball early, attack the second serve and be generally quite aggressive. Just sustaining this kind of pressure isn't easy.

Didn't see the Blake incident, but I take it he should feel hard done by?

True. The problem is that, at the moment, you can't make errors against Nadal, and you can't play safe. For the very, very best players, that's tough. For someone like Djokovic who makes quite a few mistakes, it's even tougher. The match point that Djokovic hit out summed up why he isn't ready to truly challenge the Nadal/Federer domination. He is too sloppy, and if he has an off-day, there's no plan B. Hope he trains on though.

Just saw the Djokovic match point for the first time. Amazing miss.

He was right in the centre of the court with plenty of time.

He seemed to get annoyed that Nadal kept returning the ball and it looked like he really wanted to smash the ball, but ended up messing it up completely. At least that's how it looked to me anyway.

Was very impressed with Nadal though. Djokovic looked all over him throughout the 2nd set and into the 3rd, but Nadal hung in there in the 3rd holding his serve, even though he was constantly on the back foot. Djokovic looked comfortable on the other hand in the 3rd, until he had to serve to stay in the match, where it has to be said he choked.

Yeah, true. The commentator on the highlights earlier said something like "no pro should ever miss that shot outside the lines. It's unforgivable." The BBC guy said "you miss that shot one out of 1000 times on match point."

I have never heard of this Chinese lady, but she's giving Safina a run for her money here. She (Li) makes some easy mistakes though.

1543: Roger Federer has not got his hands on a gold medal just yet. Sweden's Thomas Johansson and Simon Aspelin have just taken the third set of the men's doubles final 7-6 (7-4) on a tie-break, although Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka still lead two sets to one.

Dementjeva and Safina in a pretty good women's gold medal match.

Safina took the first set 6-3. 5-5 in the 2nd now.

Dementjeva won the gold. A very good match, but Safina played very frustrated in the end, leading to some easy mistakes.

Nadal king of tennis. No more "oh b.. but he's crap on hardcourt" bs.

Federer still following my prediction to the point. Where's your comeback gone? :p

Told you.

Who claimed Nadal's crap on hardcourts? Glad that twat Gonzalez lost though.

Also glad to see Federer win a gold. First time I've seen him actually look like he's enjoying his tennis.
