We are talking about 25m+ here.
He will need his head checked if he walks away from that. There is nothing wrong with Ole looking after himself.
It's funny, all the people who are saying he should walk away ... I would be willing to bet that far less than 1% of them would do the same.

Not sure why it's worth waiting to the international break to bring in a new manager.

Chances are he is won't have many players to work with until two days before the next game if he's lucky.

Other than that all he can do is get somewhere to stay check out the canteen and take a tour of the ground

Newspapers and commentators say players are splitted and that Ole first of all have support from the British players.

My hypothesis is that Pogba, Bailly, Martial, DVB and DDG are ready to throw Ole under the bus. I’m not surprised if also Bruno and Lingard belong to this group or are on the fence.

Pretty sure Cavani, Ronaldo and Varane are to experienced, grown up or pro to play «Pogba game». I’ve more and more realised Pogba is person who destabilise both on and of the pitch. He’s a good player (to good for the bench), but he doesn’t fit the system we play. Maybe Ole has been to loyal to his system and hasn’t done enough to build a system that fits our best players?

Ole and his coaching team have a huge job to convince the board and the players the next couple of weeks. Wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but it’s a very difficult and almost an inhuman task. It’s probably to late. His only chance to survive is to be desperate and try something new which regain his trust among camp Pogba. I think Ole has to find a way to include Pogba, DVB, Bruno, Rashford and Ronaldo in the start up.

This isn’t the first time Ole’s job is at stake, but it’s definitely the most serious one. I’ll be very surprised if Ole makes it this time, and part of me says it’s probably best if he leaves his post.

At the same time it’s important to ask who is the alternative? Conte=No, Rodger=No. Poch=No, Zidane=?

I don’t think United will benefit from hiring an interim manager. The best solution is probably to make an “under the table” deal with Ole and be honest with him - saying he can continue as manager until United has found his replacement. I don’t care about a symbolic change of manager, and I think Ole cares to much about United to not give 100% for the club even if he knows he has to leave his post.

I think they're convinced he can turn it around. That Athletic article is damning. It really sounds like most of the board still is delusional about him succeeding.
More out of hope than expectation I'd say. The club have been caught with their pants down so are desperate for him to somehow turn it around instead of going through the trouble of appointing a manager. A bit like your flailing boiler kicking up and you just leaving it there hoping it fixes itself instead of going through the trouble of paying and arranging for someone to install a new one.

Is there some context behind that game? Looks like they were down 1-0. Is it a two leg cup competition or something.
It was in the PL. If I remember correctly Chelsea just parked the bus for the entire game.

Next 6 games for Ole

Spurs A
Atalanta A
Manchester City H
Watford A
Villarreal A
Chelsea A

Ridiculous how the fixtureshave fallen this season.

Not only 5 aways in 6, but Tott, City and Chelsea in there. Just madness.

I mean I agree he'd be dumb to walk away, but usually there can be deals done so he can "walk away" while also retaining 90% of what he is owed. Stuff like that.

I mean seriously what is the point of giving him the next few games?

Even in the unlikely scenario we beat Spurs and City, he’s still not the right guy for the job.

Tear off the bandaid ffs.
We've still got to have people to coach/manage the team until a FT replacement(s) in place?

May well just be postponing a decision. If Butt was still here, he could have maybe managed for a couple of weeks but not sure any in-house temps at the moment and I definitely don't want current coaches/assistants staying.

I think this is about timing.. a when not an if.

I find it quite interesting when fans like him complain about the money. Its £20m, who is walking away from that?

Would he walk away if he could get paid ? No chance.

Why do people seem to think Ole won't be sacked? There is this theory floating around that the Glazers are happy with mediocrity, which I find nuts to be honest. We have spent £450m net over the last few transfer windows, do people HONESTLY believe that the Glazers do this because they love Utd, or because they want to see results on the pitch?

Let's just calm down for one second. Clearly, Ole has to go and I believe he will go...but what sense does sacking him this week make? We have Spurs (A), Atalanta (A) and City (H) coming up, followed by an International break, then a winnable game against Watford.

Surely, it makes sense to sound out our managerial targets, have two weeks to think about what we do/who we approach and then make our move after we get spanked by City? That way, the new manager has two weeks to get into Carrington, start to meet some of the players and staff and then hopefully get us off to a winning start against a beatable side

It certainly makes sense to have a proper look into the next manager and not rush.

But on the other hand, what's the sense in prolonging Ole's misery, when we all know it's up?

Surely even a caretaker won't do any worse than Ole will in the next 3? Might even improve things temporarily and sneak a result or 2.

Is Comical Ole the secret son of one of the Glazers? Why the hell are we going out of our way time and again to make excuses for him, it's like they've bet everything on him or something.
At this stage it's just pathetic.

I love the thought of Ole getting desperate and starting Donny, giving him a little talk before the game, "Listen Donny mate, I need a really big shift from you today my balls are on the line"

Nah, Conte is available to start immediately.

Glazers just don't want to spend money sacking coaches they've just given contract extensions to

This is why hiring legends etc is a really bad idea. Clouds so much judgement.

This feels like self sabotage moment. I still feel the crack in dressing room wide open the longer ole staying.

It's not about when he goes, it's about when a new manager will have agreed and be ready to take over. Say you sack Ole tomorrow and you go into the Spurs game at the weekend with Carrick and McKenna in charge. Is it any better?

Or do you think Zidane, Conte, Ten Hag (or whoever else we think is the best candidate), will be waiting by the phone ready to move to Manchester at the drop of hat to take over the next day?
Do you believe it's any worse? We're completely lost at sea and morale is dropping like a stone. Under Ole, another loss compounds and makes the problems worse, and there's no evidence to say we won't be on the end of another hammering, or two, with him at the helm. 4 against Leicester; 2 against a depleted Atalanta; Liverpool actually losing interest in battering us anymore; if that's not a trend, what is?

Don’t we have Arsenal right after Chelsea too?

Yeah, so even when it gets "easier" it's still Arsenal who we've barely beaten for years, and we always face them after their dreadful run has ended too.

It's also counter intuitive. Ole does well in those games and we drag this process out for longer. We do poorly and the new manager has less games to rescue a poor situation.
Not necessarily. The decision to sack LvG was made well before it happened. The fact he won the FA Cup in his final game didn't change anything.

Spurs are shit.

We could be beating them with a new coach and a morale boost for the players and go into City competitively and maybe even get a result with the players we have.

But yeah, leave him in charge and make sure league is completely gone before making a change.

Infuriating.

We’ll we’ve had an easy start to the league and messed that up, it was perfect for us to gain some points with all the top 6 teams playing each other and we’ve completely botched it.

8 points off top with our opening games of the season what a joke.

True. But I dont think anyone knows as much as this honestly... Romano even "knows" Sir Alex was there. I don't believe it honestly.
He might be pushing the Conte news around but to know that much about the specifics, doesn't make sense to me.

With most players not being there cause of international duties.
That doesn't really matter. More about getting your foot in the door, preparing training etc.

He will still be able to work with a lot of players that don't make it.

Fergie is part of the board. Not that hard to figure out.

United 1 - 6 City

remember this?

Fergie survived it.

context is everything

The context is what you are completely missing with this post

Fergie - a serial winner - his teams were known for the response they gave in matches after a blip result.

Oles teams just go out and do the same thing again, and again, and again and again, and again, and again, until one day a blip comes and we have a real purple patch and notch a few good wins, then its back to mediocrity with the same level of garbage served up.
We are not Norwich or Newcastle bad but for a brand like United the current product is as bad as it has been in a very very long time

What team fear playing United now?
How easy are we to play against?
How one dimensional are we?
How predictable?

the most recent result is the sum of the last 3 years -

The evidence the Ole has hit the glass ceiling is there for all to see.
He just isnt a top level manager. I love the man - he gave me some of my greatest United memories and I am sad that he is genuinely hurting, but he has to go.
The pressure at United is immense - and better managers than him have come and gone.

If he has any guts on Saturday if he is still in charge he should play a different line up - but he wont.
He will give his faves another chance to have another chance, again etc etc.
Its infuriating.

I think Ole will stay in place until the Arsenal game on 02/12/2021.

Similar to how Jose was only sacked after a string of difficult games so that Solksjaer could get his tenure off to a flying start against Cardiff.

Any replacement will appreciate beginning against Palace, YB, Norwich, Brentford, Brighton, Newcastle and Burnley. That will ensure the new manager bounce isn't wasted against the likes of City or Chelsea.
That would means we are out of UCL. I fully expect to get humiliated against Atalanta and Villareal. In fact, it should have already happened, with Atalanta missing 5 starters and Villareal missing 5 chances.

Ridiculous how the fixtureshave fallen this season.

Not only 5 aways in 6, but Tott, City and Chelsea in there. Just madness.

Also ridiculous how we weren’t top of the league after the fortunate fixtures we had prior to Liverpool.

That's because it didn't make sense to change the manager before an FA Cup final. Bit of a different situation.

Here there's just nothing. We actually risk being dismantled in the Champions League if we risk changing too late, having scraped Villareal and Atalanta at home. I think it's very risky keeping Ole for the next 3 games if it's inevitable he's going anyway. At least Conte can know his players for 3 weeks before the break.

This is why hiring legends etc is a really bad idea. Clouds so much judgement.

It makes no sense, as what happens if we get a decent win? Is that him back on track, or just a false dawn?

If a 5-0 home defeat after a run of shockers doesn't get you the sack what does?!

SAF needs to have zero input on managers going forward.

He's the best manager ever, but he can't pick a good manager.
