Ole picks big guns for final

1-0 United - Macheda

Great free kick from Eikrem (after an appalling challenge on Stewart by Riga that merited a red) and Macheda got ahead of Shittu and smacked a great header against the bar that went straight back to him to nod in.

Should have been a red for that challenge on Stewart.

Get in.

Stewart is so lucky that Riga pulls back just a little bit before hitting Stewart. If he had followed through there - the leg would have gone

Kiko is such a hard worker, I hope he continues, look at where he is right now? Hmmm, Rooney and Kiko hassling defenders, a sight to see shortly I will hope.

Good to see Obertan/de laet there. Can't wait to see him (obertan) in the reserves.

Was a tough game. Looked like Penalties. We were a tad fortunate not to concede or give a pen away.

Kiko is still raw but 1 chance 1 goal. Can't complain about that

Can't underestimate just how experienced that Bolton team was, great effort to win that.

I went to the game with my old man. Well worth the £8 each considering what we got out of it.

Before the game, I managed to get Ole to sign the programme from his testimonial. Proper made up with that. Should be worth a bit in a few years, not that I'd sell it. I was certain that I was stood next to Richie De Laet, who was on the phone, but didn't have the balls to ask him. Was certain though (and found out later it was him). David Gill was in the gantry too, and a few MUTV guys wandering around.

First half I was leaning against a barrier down the flank that Tosic was attacking. There wasn't much happening down there but I had a white top and cap on if anyone saw me  Shittu for Bolton looked absolutely huge. From my viewing, they shaded the first half. 2nd half I switched to the opposite side, still on our winger attacking. Bolton had more of the possession but I'd rather see the odd United attack than a few of theirs. Disappointed that Tosic came off injured, he was doing well. Surprised Welbeck came off at a similar time, he seemed to be our best attacker. Credit to him for signing every autograph as he was heading into the dressing rooms. He is fast and was good with the ball at his feet. Kiko couldn't really get involved and he was getting a but frustrated, but took his goal really well. Josh King, who came on for Welbeck and went up front, seemed very lively. I was impressed by his cameo role.

After the game and the presentation, Ole and Macheda stuck around for interviews etc and both were mobbed by kids and adults alike. I got Macheda to sign my United programme from the Pompey game of last season which had him on the front. That was 2 out of 2 for the night :D

As my phone had died from having it on camera all game, I couldn't get a picture with me with either but managed to shake Ole's hand. Had to be done. MUTV's Mark Sullivan was waiting for Ole and I had a quick chat with him.
My opening line was "Have you got Hayley McQueen's number" and his response was "maybe, but you can't be giving that out (he said with a grin). "Was worth a try :D" I said and he agreed, laughing (but no number :()

As most guys had gone back into the training room, Richie De Laet was waiting outside and there were no kids begging him for his autograph as he looked like any regular guy without a kit on etc. My old man was chatting so I went up to see how he was, and to report for The Cafe :D
I asked him if he knew whether he would be in the team on Wednesday against Burnley because of the few injuries and as he was on the bench yesterday. He said he didn't know yet. I said he was impressive in pre-season and that he was very good against Valencia and that if he can do it against them he'll have no problems when called upon. He was very polite and thanked me for the praise before we left.

United reserves are playing there again next week in the league, so I'll be back again

Brilliant read and glad you got your autographs, result.

I would have said something similar to De Laet if I'd been in your situation but I usually clam up in situations like that, he was very good against Hull last season aswell. I've met a few well known sportspeople and musicians in my time and usually it's a case of half an hour later I'm thinking I wish I'd have asked that or said that.

Fair play to ya.

I assume both Cathcart and Welbeck will be in the squad since they were taken off so early in the game.

Good point about Cathcart. Not sure you can read much into Welbeck coming off early. I don't think he played 90 minutes for England all summer, under instructions from the club. He's had a lot of growing pains and seems to be wrapped in cotton wool for the moment.

You asked Ole about Hayley? Most random question ever.

I think he asked Mark Sullivan..

Surely Cathcart will be in and around the players who could make then bench depending on Evans.. As far as Welbeck is concerned I cannot see him nor Macheda making the bench anytime soon as the season has just begun and most of our attacking players are fit and in need of game time.. Plus we all know SAF doesn't take the PL too lightly.. I doubt he will ring in the changes considering it is our 2nd fixture of the season and also because it is an Away fixture..
