Yep club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who played alongside the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Keane, Ronaldo etc doesn't think quality matters.

He didn't say it so I'm assuming that he thinks that they already have that and that's why he mentioned the others that he thought they hadn't. My view is I think he rates the players when in reality they have over 'years' proven they are not. Extending Jones contract and giving Young another year proves it for me.

He clearly said playing Greenwood, Rashford, Dalot is end of ManUtd career for few players.

If we go into next season having sold Lukaku while having Rashford as our main striker and a 17 year old has his back up I will be worried.

I'm all for academy players getting a chance but the first team needs to be up to scratch first to then allow 1/2 academy players the room to grow without the pressure of preforming every match.

Some people overestimate the academy in the sense they are seriously happy to replace the likes of Herrera and Lukaku from within.

I don't understand this fixation by some on the academy, all teams buy players when the academy isn't ready and when most of the players who are touted to come up are u21, you would think external transfers would be the most adept. Even teams such as Barca and Ajax who are known for their academy's but players when they're own youth players aren't ready.

 Have some of you even watched the interview?

He’s stated that young players like Greenwood are going to be ending things for older players. He’s said he’s going to be telling players they’re not for him. He said that the attitude of some players has not impressed him and that this won’t fit with the culture he’s trying to create.

I mean, the quote that was initially quoted here. It’s clearly a bloody warning. He knows already who he wants and who he doesn’t. He’s not thick. His wider point here, if you pull your heads out of your whiny arses, is that you come back to pre season in good shape and ready to follow instructions. Any player that doesn’t will not get the opportunities to display what they can do.

Ole has just given one of the best pressers we’ve seen post Ferguson and we get tossers in here focusing on the use of about 17 words to push the narrative that club are useless and Ole won’t jettison half the squad.

If we’re sat here in September and Ashley Young is starting at full back and Rojo and Darmian still stink about the bench ahead of either new signings or academy players then fair enough. I’ll be moaning all the same. But apart from that phrase (which is actually part of a wider point about not being a dickhead while on holiday) there is nothing at all that’s been indicated by Ole to suggest that he isn’t going to be ruthless in terms of squad development.
Top post.

But I also see people are under some mad impression like we should expect a serious title challenge next season after all the damage done by that previous wanker. No wonder they’re upset.

Ole in March:

But we should look for quality players, definitely, and players who could improve us as a team.

"There's so many factors you need to think about when you sign players.

Like any fecking manager he wants to add quality to his team, that’s just a bloody given.

A RB, CM, RW coming in and doing a good job would literally revolutionise our squad. We don’t need six players and signing six players would be mental and go horrendously wrong.

Imagine if we had Mane, Kante and Wann Bisakka this year. We could challenge for the title. As soon as we get a capable right winger we will look ten times better.

How on Earth have you missed CB off that list? It’s the one position we are desperate for a World Class player more than any other.

fecking hell just because he didn't say it doesn't mean he doesn't know that .

Which manager in the world thinks feck it we don't need top quality talent.

The fact is we have talent but talent alone isn't good enough as we've witnessed that's the point.

You tell em.

I was going to look for this quote but you’ve done it for me. Ole has referred to improving the quality of our squad a few times now. But he’s said, each time, that the club must be diligent in regards to the player’s personality. It’s about avoiding Di Maria’s, you feel.

Basically, @Litch is chatting shite.

I would be happy with Lindelof/Bailly/Jones/Smalling next year moreso than I would

Young/Darmian

Mata/Lingard

Pogba/Fred/McTominay/Matic

Being our starting options.

That midfield 4 is miles better than the 4 CB’s listed.

Dalot can be a superb RB for us, not sure why you’ve skipped over him.

RW I agree, almost as important as CB, it’s an absolute joke how often it’s been completely ignored these past years.

Sorry missed Dalot. Think he needs someone ahead of him tbf.

I prefer the four Cbs. Than those midfielders. Especially as they’re covering three positions.

None of us will have any idea about who will be title challengers until after the Summer.
Last May I’d have never had Liverpool as having a chance, but by August I genuinely thought they were in with a shot.

You are right. Nobody knows, but I think it is unrealistic and too early to expect it next season. Jose in his famous 2nd season couldn't get close while title challengers are now hitting +90 points mark.
Considering all that I think it is also unfair to expect title challenge from Ole in his 1st proper season and there will be people who will lose their shit about it.

Hope am dead wrong obviously.

Still ending a season with more questions than answers. Not being 'knee-jerk' but there's an uneasy feeling that we have been here before. OGS believes that fitness, attitude and desire is enough.....he's missed you still need ability and quality. He's talked about aspiring to be more like Barca, well he is disillusioned if he thinks 70% of the existing squad is going to get us there. Couple of signings will be a drop in the ocean....

I'm sure Ole has said that it will be a long term project, so the squad will change a lot over the next couple of years, not just in one window, so a good number of the current squad will still be here next season, but they will be the ones that do show a good attitude and desire to play for this club, but subsequently will be replaced by players with more ability. I don't think that Ole would sign anyone, or promote from the academy, a player that didn't have the ability and quality required to perform on the biggest stage for this club, but they must also show that they WANT to play for this club with their attitude and desire, something that is lacking in several of our current squad, albeit that they are talented.

It takes 2 or 3 years probably and it is relatively easy to notice in the first season if he is making progress. For example, like you could see with Klopp that he is making progress and improving the team.

I am one of few though who doesn't want to give 300 million cheque to Ole this summer. First of all, he never operated in this level of market and it is extremely risky thing to do. Buy a few, but buy quality and improve performances on the pitch. Then build on it and spend more if we see he is the right man. But his approuch atm is the right one imo.

You might be right, no crystal ball nor am I doom merchant just my honest opinion. Ole has been good since he came no doubt but the idea that some of these players 'still' derserve a chance is worrying cause we have seen since the new manager bounce, what we have seen under previous managers.

I'm pretty sure Ole knows the squad isn't good enough but he also knows that a net spend of 100-150M this window won't be enough to make us contenders. He's just saying how it is tbh. I think we'll get a couple of players this window but that's it and our team will look very similar next season. I will be shocked if we buy more than 2 players that go straight in the first team.

He clearly said playing Greenwood, Rashford, Dalot is end of ManUtd career for few players.

Only when the 'end of those players' are on the bench or not in the squad when they are playing. The sacrificial players like Damian, Valencia, Rojo et al I don't count for me, it's the starting 11 that needs proper surgery. I rate Dalot and Greenwood highly but they aren't starters for me. I think the general consensus is we need RB, CB, DM and RW first 11 players of the highest quality this summer.

Sadly you might be right. The problem is 2 players won't be enough and that's when whatever quality you have left will def look to leave. City and Liverpool have the nucleus of a strong team so they are only looking for additional players or even that special player to take them onto the next level. Spurs still have a strong team and Chelsea are always competitive. Arsenal will be better next season and I rate their manager highly.
We will be better next season but as you say maybe we will competing for top 4 again rather than the title.

I'm suggesting that in isolation. I'm saying within the context saying that some of these players deserve a chance which to me suggests they haven't had one. I get the give Ole a chance and anyone offering anything else must not be a fan, entitled to a different opinion or talking shite, but for me this is a massive summer. We have an unproven manager, a squad that has proven to not be good enough and question marks over whether our best players want to stay or not. All of this might sound like I'm be negative, for me thats factual. Not saying that we won't sign some players as we sign players every single season, just it's the quality of those that will still be here that concerns me.

I guess time will tell.....

Problem is that most likely he can't clear all the ones that are not good enough in just one window.
With that in my mind and since he will have to use some of them no point in slamming them down going into the next season (Jose style).

This time next week, it'll most likely be 8 losses in 10. This club has literally fallen so far its unbelievable.

6th loss in 8th. Most viewed concerning thing is how lifeless we constantly look.

While I hate these players - the blame is on Ole too.

He is clearly playing counterattacking football with no intent to control the football we play on the pitch.

We have none of it - none of the control.

Kept saying there was no rush. Too late now.
This isn’t his fault. Poch isn’t going to turn Smalling, Jones and Matic into Maldini, Nesta and Makalele.

No manager can work with these idiots and expect results.

Our issues go much deeper than the manager. We won’t compete again until the Glazers and Woodward are gone. Nobody at the upper echelons of the club know the slightest thing about running a football club, so we can switch managers until the cows come home and nothing will change.

Absolute stupidity from everyone involved to give him the job before the season was up.
