Do you remember the outrage when Moyes said he aspired to be like City? Rightly so at the time but Solksjaer, more than any of your post Ferguson managers comes out with this stuff often. He did it throughout last season and I got the sense he wasn’t bothered about winning the Europa League because he was scared of Emery, and he thinks getting to the final is not a bad achievement.
He still keeps coming out with this stuff, it’s not a slip of the tongue, he really thinks like this. I don’t think it’s because he doesn’t want United to win anything, I think it’s because, fundamentally, he’s scared of Klopp and Pep and knows he can’t compete with them over a season. He’s been quite spoilt in having so many players bought for him to overcome the fact that he’s well out of his depth.
I’m baffled why United persist with this Solksjaer vehicle and the notion that, because Ferguson had time, giving Solksjaer time must mean that he will become as good as Ferguson. The Europa League final loss was the perfect time to let him go. He’d have been able to walk away with consecutive Champions League qualifications and a better squad. At the same time your board would have sent out the message that winning is important. Reasonable given what happened the previous year against Seville.
