It really is mind boggling, for all the chat about Glazers not spending we've almost been to generous with managers. They've never had to plan around developing players, we've been buying 2-4 top players pretty much every year and it's such an easy trap to fall into. I fully believe Ole had the best intentions coming into the job but look at our last couple of windows, the pressure mounts and you just find yourself going after ready made and expensive starters.

Hopefully Ole turns this around and this is a moot point (I doubt it) but next manager should come in, work with what we have and then in summer, if there's promise, you back them.
You're basically calling it as opposition fans have been doing for a long time. We backed Ole and bought into the excuses from him for obvious reasons - it's delusional to keep doing so now.

If it was up to me he'd be gone already

But we need to be realistic and grounded.

He won't be sacked unless he finishes the season trophyless

And even if he finishes trophyless, a top 4 finish + a CL top 4 would probably convince the board to keep him around.

The more I think about him, the more he pisses me off. He's been given everything he's asked for, and more, and yet he still has us mired our clownish performances, dropping points to clubs like Everton and Leicester City.

Just heard that it’s Ole’s best start to the season as a United manager? Is this true? I don’t know what to make of that.

It is.

We lost to Palace, Spurs and Arsenal last season at the start, mid table. Season before we were bottom half.

Progress, we've only lost two and in the top half

I was done with him that game we were losing and he was all smiles doing thumbs up on camera. That pissed me off so much that I cannot stand his smile anymore.

Actually speaking sense, more than United legend Gary Neville who won’t call out his mate

Carragher was always objective for United and told it as it was. He was screaming for Moyes to get sacked, while Neville was asking to give him more time.

In all honesty, if you don't know them and you just hear them talking about United, you would think that Carragher is a United fan while Neville supports some rival team.

It is.

But to caveat that

His other starts where also disgracefully bad.

And this in the other two years we played 2 and 3 of the big six respectively.

Compare that to our "simple" fixtures this season

Thanks guys. Makes one wonder; how in the hell have we allowed for this to carry on.

Not only Ole. We also backed Jose and LVG with tremendous amount of outlay. If I remember correctly, we have spent almost the same amount of money city have since SAF retired.

He's says there he's done a really good job so far and wouldn't be thinking at all about changing him right now. If anything goes against the grain of this place at the moment.

Neville said he won't call for any manager to be sacked. Everything else was pretty critical of the current state.

@GifLord have you a video of Neville and Carragher discussing United and Ole on MNF this evening. Some good tidbits there to discuss.

Just boggles the mind we let Naglesmann, Tuchel, Rose, Pochettino all go because we had Ole. Feck me, we deserve this shit.

Conflicting reports. I think I'm prepared to accept he will be given the season so I'm not going to cry and whinge every weekend. Hope we smash Liverpool on Sunday.

The report says Ole was furious about the second half. If true then why didn't he make early changes or scream instructions from the technical area?

I accept that Ole will get the season. I think the whole club has to improve from Ole and the coaching staff to the players. I think this season will be Ole's last. The most annoying thing really is having to right off another season. Utd won't win anything again.

I expect another horrible performance against Atalanta. Might be an unpopular opinion but I think Bruno is dragging the wingers too high away from the midfield. If players don't obey intruction then they have to be dropped.

I’ve said it for a while we start everything badly, games, halves, seasons the lot. It’s clearly a motivational issue somewhere. It’s baffling. I honestly think all he does is tell them to go out and enjoy it then panics when that clearly isn’t enough.

Atleast he didn't make excuses complaining about referees after this result. That's progress.

I hope he bollocked himself for a few hours as well

Many of the players have been poor but no amount of reading the riot act will make an unfit player work. No amount of bollocking the players after the game will solve the problem that Maguire should've taken off by the manager if not noticed the day before. Ole himself has been playing Pogba on the left after discussing things with Pogba last season and he has said he wanted the free role of Bruno, we all kind of know he doesn't work for us in a midfield two yet rocks up to Leicester that have overrun us twice before and are a quality side with Pogba and Matic, what can go wrong apart from everything? We needed a 3 man to combat theirs at least and help cover old Matic and Pogba or possibly drop Pogba to have Bruno and Ronaldo carry on, we had a player that can do that and resist the press on the bench dying to get on, he's schooled in that at his previous club and did all this and more at home to Leipzig in the 5-0 but hardly seen since.

Interesting pod from Rio minus the dude who was constantly doing Rio’s head in.

We've not fallen that far!

In his position, I feel 5 at the back football will be a suicide move at OT. There's worries about fan protests now and what won't help is being passive against our biggest rivals.

My main worry outside of the result is Rashford not being ready and pushed into too many minutes.

No reason why we can't. Arsenal were calamitous during the 2019-20 season. Emery went, Ljungberg came in for a bit and Arteta didn't improve things too much but they won the FA Cup.

Chelsea were awful in the league for much of the 2011-12 season yet still won the Champions League.

I fully believe we will win a trophy this season. Most likely the FA Cup.

Yes I am aware that both those examples changed their manager.

Sorting through team shape out, getting consistent results and getting back in to a challenging position. It is possible over these next 10 games. Just doesn’t seem likely right now
I still wouldnt think he is some great manager if he achieved that, the fact that he consistently gets us in these positions probably tell more of his calibre.

You did. Do they not realize for us to be in the Europa League we'd have to come third in the easiest group you could ever ask for in the CL.

He'd have to be sacked on the spot if that happened

Yeah, thats fecking absurd. I suppose winning the EL is better than not winning it, but not us not qualifing from that group would be an abject failure and sack worth on its own

They're a big big problem for those who want to want to see us succeed most and that's us as fans. It's a masterstroke from the Glazers putting Ole in place - far too many 'die-hard's' will happily blindly follow what Neville, Scholes etc say and the Glazers are very aware of this. We cannot allow expectations to be lowered, again.

Funnily enough the Glazers actually did their bit this summer in delivering 3 top targets. Failure to maintain a title charge OR go out at the group stages should cost him his job, immediately.

Nah. most football fans are pretty opinionated, pig-headed even, and i have yet to met a fan of any club who hangs onto some pundits word like its gosspel.

As far as pundits go, Neville and Carragher are some of the better ones, but in this case its pretty obvious what Neville is doing and he gets called our for it. Dont think hes going to change many minds though

Saying what everyone knows but no one dares to say. Neville, Ferdinand, Schooled all know it, they just choose to keep quiet because Ole is their pal.

If we keep him till the end of the season he will leave the club in a terrible situation.

Most of our elite players will be a year older and looking at their options. Bruno, Ronaldo, DVB, and even Sancho will question why they are here amongst this shit show and Pogba will be gone on a free. A change is needed, because we haven't a hope of top four (sickens me to have mention top four in October) if he remains with the performances we are seeing. Can't believe the board gave him a new deal :wenger:

Stephen Howson is one of the most condescending men out there. Loves the sound of his own voice.

Peak Howson was when at 34:05 he claims "Ole implemented a world-wide scouting network of 50 scouts" and Rio smirked and said "He ain't done that." Amazing how somebody so delusional like Howson can have such a following.

So he gave them another history lesson as Jamie calls it about what United is all about? He always finds nice words, but that's not enough anymore. He's so out of depth now and probably delusional in believing he can turn things around

People do talk nonsense it’s like people claiming Ole sorted out the academy even though the root and branch review ended in 2016 when Jose was still in charge.

The best thing about Ole is the club has taken power/control away from the manager which needed to be done and his successor will have a structure in place, a transfer committee, won’t be expected to be in charge of academy etc.

Now whether that is any successful is another matter (not that hopeful personally) but we’ve at least moved away from the manager being the be all and end all. The SAF model of controlling everything just isn’t sustainable.

Rio is right, Ole is responsible for the first team and that’s all he should be judged on.

How did you get that from that tweet?

Its interesting watching that Neville clip, 2nd vid, where he talks about the dressing room. When Ole took over there were a lot fewer big names in the dressing room. The only real difficult situation was Pogba, and Ole just made him the main man, problem solved. Combined with his reputation and support from the Stretford End it was pretty clear Ole was the boss, whatever his CV.

Things are different now though. Bruno is a huge fan favourite and is basically undroppable. Rashford is becoming bigger than just a footballer these days. Ronaldo and Varane have come in with seriously heavyweight CVs and want to win. With Pogba, he can't just give him anything he wants. The dynamic is different. It feels like the dressing room has gotten volatile. Combined with the fact that its crunch time - arguments about a rebuild increasingly sound like jam tomorrow - and I don't think Ole can rely on the players to continue to back him if they don't fully believe in him.

Mitten is as good a source on Man Utd as there is so I'd be inclined to believe the coaching staff genuinely believe that. The issue is that Man Utd play in patches, there can be a five minute period they look like they can score at will followed by a half hour they look like they cannot string two passes together - so the coaching staff need to learn to take the good with the bad.
