I never said I rate Ole. However we have progressed over the last couple of seasons so he will get time regardless of what anyone thinks. We can argue about replacing him all we want but a title challenge was never the expectation for this season coming in so he won't, and rightly, shouldn't be judged on that.
What kind of progress are we talking about?
I think he cleaned up the squad a bit and got rid of some mediocre players although he bought his fair share of average players too. Either way it's positive improvement I think.
He is not shitting on the players/club unlike our previous manager so it's progress too I suppose.

But the actual progress on the pitch? I think that's where we struggle to progress in whatever way you look at it.
We still struggle to beat low block, just like 2 years ago.
We still struggle to have a solid performance throughout a game. Our typical performance is be crap for majority of the game, have a good 15-20 min spell and hope it will be enough to win the game. Apart from Southampton and Leeds games I honestly can't remember the game we won comfortably and convincingly so no progress here too.
His in game management is getting worse in each game. I honestly haven't seen a manager so unwilling to change things during the game. He might as well watch the game from the sofa at home, he does nothing during games anyway.
Points wise there is no progress either. We are still on track of basically the same amount of points we had last year.
The less we speak about our progress playing against big teams the better. 0 wins and 1 goal (and that from pen) in 7 matches is shocking.

I just cannot see any progress on the pitch. Maybe just me.

My faith has never been with them. I always support our managers and obviously with Ole it's a club legend so naturally I feel stronger.

However Ole wasn't the manager between 2013 and 2018 was he? Maybe just maybe there's more to this mess eh?

Yeah Ed hiring rubbish managers. Like CEO’s across the world who hire and sack managers.

We can go through Chelsea’s managers if you like. They don’t have a bigger problem other than their managers.

I'll have you know, Manchester United had a title winning team and were challenging for all major silverware the second before Solskajer took over. Or at least this forum acts like we were anyway so I'm not sure what's real anymore.

I think ole has done a decent job and taken us forward, you can argue maybe not in terms of trophies but the feeling around the club has definitely improved. I’ve never been convinced he’d be the one to win us the league again but felt he deserved/earned a chance but it may be the time to think about changing things up in the summer. Unfortunately I just don’t see who we go for, nagelsmann is the obvious choice and I wouldn’t be against it but other than that who would you be confident would improve us?

I remember saying a while back, when a poster asked why I wasn't totally convinced about Ole when we were doing well, it's because this has been par for the course with Ole, we have a great run, then we go on a massive run of nothing but absolute crap, then we'll win a few games again to make it look promising, before negating back to absolute crap.
Yeah this pattern has been clear for a while now. Every team has a slump now and then but under Ole, our slumps are works of art. We can be absolutely utterly diabolical for weeks or even months once we hit a bad patch. It very much looks like our game is based on individual ability and confidence. And that the confidence part of this is quite fragile.

The blessing of finishing outside top 4 (which we will), is that him and his under qualified coaching team will be gone.
Sick of his garbage excuses - it’s never his fault.
He will scramble top 4 just like he did last year, on points with Chelsea on the last match, and we will be stuck with him for another year.

Utd hiring Solskjaer as manager, is the equivilent of Liverpool hiring Origi as their manager. Allow me to explain...

- Both came off the bench to score a goal in a European Cup Final for their team.

It really is laughable that we have Solskjaer as our manager. I'm not even joking when I say this... I would rather have Steve Bruce at the helm.

Or you know... Like Barca hiring Pep. Or Barca hiring Enrique. Or Barca hiring Cruyff. Or Madrid hiring Zidane. Or Juve hiring Pirlo. Or Juve hiring Zoff. Or Milan hiring Inzaghi. Or Milan hiring Gattusso. Or Milan hiring Capello. Or Atleti hiring Simeone. Or Chelsea hiring Lampard. Or Arsenal hiring Arteta. Or Liverpool hiring Dalglish.

In case you haven’t noticed, these hirings happen quite often. With both huge success and massive failure. But they still keep happening. A lot. It’s not something unique to Ole’s stint at Man United, far from it.

I suggest you do some research if you're this clueless about United's history. Comparing fecking Origi to Ole.

In a shit mood after tonight's performance so I needed this laugh.

Laughable to think Ole/the team are just cruising to a top 4 finish & have taken their foot off the gas.

Ole has been in a Utd team that has been constantly striving to win. Arguably he knows more about winning and the “Man Utd Way” and philosophy more than any of us could ever dream of. So spare me the disrespect that he/they are taking their foot off the gas.

Second is nothing?! Half this forum was happy with a top 4 finish at the start of the season! We go top for a few weeks, get a sniff of the title and we all go crying about how he isn’t good enough.

Entitled fanbase yet again!
We got to the summit, somewhat fortunately, but we were there nevertheless and we have collapsed. Tamely. I lived through the 80s so I’ve seen us be shit. What he does or doesn’t know about being a winner is irrelevant if he doesn’t show it. Wanting to attack and go for a win rather than serving up this dross is being entitled? Cool. Call me entitled.

How many of those stayed in a job for 2 years winning nothing and ended up being a success.

You can go through that list and point out the crap ones who also delivered nothing after 12 months.

Go on then? First season he started with a nice honeymoon but finished disastrously.

Last season he finished level on points with a transfer banned Frank Lampard.

This season he got knocked out of CL groups and is currently on course for 71 points.

What about the above requires either being a top manager or lots of luck

You and I have discussed this to death earlier, several times. We disagree. We both know that. No need to get another endless circle of “I see progress” and “What progress?” going.

I have seen progress though, but top manager progress or requiring lots of luck progress it clearly hasn’t been.
I can sum it up mainly as, got rid of some shit players, got some better ones.

Switching roles I could honestly see Newcastle go down.

I think you've just hit the nail on the head.

I genuinely don't think Ole is better than any other manager in the Premier League.

If Utd did a direct swap of manager's in the league, I honestly believe the other team would do worse with Ole in charge.

Let's be completely honest about Ole:
- He looks absolutely clueless on the sidelines
- He doesn't know when to make a substitution
- He doesn't inpire his team from the touchline
- He spends circa £40m on a player and refuses to play him
- He is well and truly out of his depth

We are not going anywhere with Ole.
He can't even motivate the players against Palace, and in the post-match interview he says, 'Palace make you play the way they want you to'.

Pathetic.

Oh look, the poster who dedicated his account to remind us how terrible us as fans are.

Stick me on ignore then.

This happens after every time we don’t win, it’s always Ole’s fault and not the players.

Yet when we win it’s the players doing and not Ole

We have progressed it’s clear to see.

This thread grows tenfold when we lose, or draw, it’s an absolute joke.

This is worse than Jose & the club is in a healthier position now!

I even saw a poster effectively turn on Amad and the youngsters a few posts back!

This forum is entitled, it’s confused and it doesn’t know what it wants. They want long term stability but short term success.

They crave the trophies so bad they’ll become something that they hate to see other teams do. Throwing money At galaticos and hiring and firing at the flip of a coin.

Absolute shambles

He’s done a great job of turning round a sinking ship, but he can only take us so far. He doesn’t know how to take this team forward and just buying better players isn’t the answer completely.

This place was awash of people talking about a title challenge and pushing City all the way a month or so ago so excuse me if I find the quick turnaround quite amusing.

If you look at goals scored, goals per game, points per game etc. We're up on all of those year on year since Ole took over, it's a clear indication on a team moving in the right direction.
The players have all (mostly) improved under him, whether that's him or the coaching staff it's hard to say, probably a combination but Fred was done, Rashford has been great, Pogba is looking good again and instead of needing 10 new players it seems we probably only need about 3 now.

Performances are a concern but for me, when I look at that first 11 today, there is nothing in midfield behind Bruno that offers any sort of creativity, and you can blame Solskjaer for setting up that but there still isn't enough real quality without Pogba in there. Fred and McTomminay can't see the runs like he can. If you throw Grealish and Pogba in there we win this game with ease tonight.
I agree with the game management at the moment, it doesn't look like he's willing to take risks. Could be because of the backlash after the Spurs defeat and he doesn't trust the defence. Could be that he knows his contract is up soon and he wants to secure a top 4 position so a draw is better than a loss when the season is as random as this one seems to be.

We have played some of the best football post Fergie under Solskjaer also, but we haven't been consistent enough. I think with a better first 11 we will find that but it isn't going to happen this season. We need Pogba and Cavani back fit before we get playing anything looking decent.

Why would I do and lose the chance to laugh at the fact you're posting regularly on a forum you hate pretty much everyone else on it ? I honestly have never seen someone hating a place this much but sticks with it anyway.

Yup, it's quite common. There is a difference though, all those clubs will sack them as soon things don't go well, where with us, it will be drag on until we all suffer and there no way back. So they can take the risk as they will walk away from it when needed, we don't.

Well there you have. Progress if you compare him only against himself.

Otherwise no progress at all.

Sacking Jose was correct. Hiring Ole permanently was not

Barcelona still have Koeman. They’re accepting the very same thing at this very moment.
With everything going on at Barca this season the manager is very much down the pecking order of priorities but at least he's went one further than Ole and actually made a cup final.

Think he's taken us as far as he can.

We need a better manager to take us that next step

So more than just the "traditional" top six this United team can draw 0-0 with.

Six 0-0 draws in the Premier league this season now. Minus those 6 games it's P21 scored on average 3 goals a game and conceded 2 a game per average.

Gary Neville sums it up best. A very odd team.

15 of those scored against 2 teams

With numbers line this the only thing that should save his job is winning the FA Cup or Europa or both.

Where we come between 2nd and 4th does not matter.

If we can't win a trophy and keep up the current form their is zero decernable progress and we should hire a new manager for next season.

This unbeaten away run is starting to hang around his neck and making him far too fearful of trying different things in order to change the game, look I am not saying that Amad will be able to do something out of nothing but how would he know if he doesn't ever try him in a tight game.

Statistically we are no better and we win less trophies.

No progress, we just don't have a manager that is toxic and is easy to hate.

Nobody wants Ole to fail. It's easier for us all if he was a brilliant manager. It's sad but I don't see it. We are deeply flawed still and his entire reign has been a boom bust cycle. A few weeks good a few weeks bad. Rinse and repeat.

Firing Jose was correct. Hiring Ole permanently was not.

This is both inaccurate, and requires a bit of perspective. Pirlo still hasn’t got the sack, and he even inherited a 8-in-a-row team. Koeman is still in charge at Barca, after a season waaaay below their “standards” (so far). Gattusso stayed for one and a half season at Milan, and deservedly got the sack, but only after failing to qualify for the CL.

Ole finished third last year, and is in second place right now. He’s not done as bad as half of this place makes it seem like, and probably not as well as a third of this place makes it seem like. I don’t really see why he should get the sack right now, as I believe he’s shown more positives than negatives, and that we have improved drastically in a a lot of areas.

Of course, should this team implode and we fail in every competition, he should get the sack. But I still think that’s a highly unlikely scenario.

He shouldn't get sacked right now. But at the end if this season of we have a pitiful points total and don't win a trophy we should call it a day on his reign.

Basically as things stand I'd have him closer to being gone than staying.

A competent club would be preparing for life without him imo
