Manchester United will move for German attacking midfielder Piotr Trochowski if they fail to lure Mesut Ozil to Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson is planning a secondary Bundesliga raid in case his advances to capture the Werder Bremen starlet fail and has set his sights on the highly rated Hamburg man as a back up alternative.

The 26 year old played only a cameo role in the recent World Cup but was nonetheless most impressive. The pint sized former Bayern Munich man is considered to be one of the most gifted players in Germany and has been a mainstay at Hamburg for the past five seasons.

Last term his efforts were crucial in the sides terrific Europa League run but a seventh placed finish in the domestic title race may have left the playmaker wondering whether it may be the right time for a new challenge. Coach Armin Veh will be keen to avoid losing the Polish born midfielder.

He could be snapped up for a fee in the region of £13m and may be a player who is somewhat under the radar and could therefore may be more easily snapped up by the Man United boss. Trochowski is an adaptable player who can play across the centre of midfield as well as on the wing. He could give the Premier League side the creativity they appear to be looking for if they fail to secure the signing of Ozil.

CaughtOffside is the worst site for rumours on the web - bar none!

very decent player. quick and has a good shot from range. Like Nani can play either wing though he is right footed and is better on the right. Not someone we should be interested in.

The germans we should be interested in: Neuer, Lahm, Schweinsteiger and Ozil. I doubt Neuer will leave germany and at this point I believe we have no interest in lahm but in terms of adding something to united he makes the list.

That's Trochowski, Podolski, and Klose as those born in Poland but play for Germany.

If Poland could keep their players, they'd be a semi-quality team...

Plays Koscielny for Poland or France?

He hasn't decided yet but he'll accept a call-up from France if it comes. If it doesn't, he may consider playing for Poland but I think Blanc will act quickly to unable that.

It seems to be common knowledge in the press that we're supposedly going all out to get Ozil, when it's more likely its just rumours eminating from a certain muppet filled football forum

Not seen enough of him to make any judgment but he has a difficult to pronounce name so he must be good.

Can we just sign someone for feck sake and be done with it.

The Gossip

With less than a month to go until the transfer window slams shut, you can't go online or open the papers without hearing scurrilous rumours. In our rolling blog, Steve Bartram tracks all the United transfer tittle-tattle...

Running total: 93 in (estimated £1.7166billion), 21 out (estimated £174million, including loans and swaps)
According to the papers we've got 93 players coming in. :D

Andy Johnson anyone?

:wenger:

Trochowski has a brilliant strike on him but he's a bit average with everything else. Think of him as a right footed, wide version of Hitzlesperger. Can play on the left and smash them in or play on the right, but he's not going to be better than Nani or Valencia. I seriously doubt we have an interest in him.

Trochowski is better than Hitzlesperger, and can play as a central attacking midfielder.

Shit, why did this have to come out. If this is true then SAF did a bloody good job keeping it off the radar.

Watch City and the like come swinging there wallets around now...

Heard of him, never seen him play.

Sounds like he should be a classical music composer with a name like that.

He's rubbish. If you sign him I will laugh.

As compared to most of your current players who are not?

You guys would be lucky to have a player like him.. and that you clueless git is saying something!
