I think part of his problem, aside from his lack of tactical knowhow and mismanagement of players, was he was just too nice, he didn't have a ruthless streak. Klopp, SAF, Pep etc seemed to have the balance between knowing when to put an arm round a shoulder and when to put a rocket up a backside. You wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of them, but I just couldn't imagine Ole properly rollicking poor showings. A classic example was hi fiving Maguire yesterday after he perhaps had just hammered the final nail into the coffin.
You rarely saw him in the technical area for long periods of time, I was at the Liverpool game and despite pasting us, Klopp never left his technical area, Ole did get up for periods of time, but would also send his staff or have no one there.
I know he probably didn't really know exactly what to do, but sitting in his seat while the s*** unfolds in front of him sends the message to the players that it's all fine.
Even f1, you look at Hamilton and Verstappen and Schumacher etc - all with a bit of a ruthless streak but they're winning races etc.
Ole was just a bit too nice. This perhaps also links to his not overhauling the coaching staff to help cover his short comings, or dropping massively out of form players.
I can imagine the quotes are true about players liking him as a person but doubting his ability to take them forward on the pitch. Perhaps he was trying too hard to be liked after Jose.
I hope he has a long time out with his family for the benefit of his health.
Even in that interview it looks like a weight has started to lift off his shoulders.
