Odion Ighalo - 6 month loan deal done

Some people are tedious. We need a body to cover Martial until Rashford returns. The club wouldn’t be targeting the likes of Ighalo and King if it thought they were any sort of long term answer. Maguire and Bruno are what the club considers to be long term answers, hence the fees. We’re after a half decent goalscorer that could provide an option until Rashford comes back.

At worst, he’s a bit shit and doesn’t score many. At best, he’s a useful player that might actually be worth hanging on to in a squad capacity.
The vast majority of people against this have shown themselves to be lacking in football knowledge. This is literally the ideal kind of short term signing. Has no impact on summer or long term business but gives us an experienced player that can handle the league and if he scores even 5 goals that helps us win the EL or get into top 4 it’s worth it.

We’re bringing someone on board to receive balls from Pogba and Bruno who hasn’t played professional football in 3 years???

Someone please tell me this is a joke

I can't see what the issue is with him coming on loan. Provides a different option for the club. An unfortunate injury to Martial or Greenwood completely messes up what's left of the season. If people are looking for a top-class forward on loan for the remainder of the season is just not a possibility. They're not available and won't want to be on the bench.

Haaland's non-deal messed up the clubs planning.

Jesus wept, some people are so judgemental!
The club had a list of targets, they couldn't get the targets they wanted so they have moved on to a target further down the list.
Ighalo would have been third/forth choice, and is only a target due to being a short term option at a relatively low cost.

Yeah, but his finishing is good at least.

So it doesn’t matter that he’s easily dispossessed, can’t stay onside, win a header, pass a ball or help defend.

I think he must have been a bit further down the list, if we are in for him at all. He is 181 cm, 73 kg, and pretty much bad at everything. Can just as well play Lingard as a nr. 9.

SSN saying their source says it's 50/50 whether we sign him or not. Not sure how I feel about this, he was great for that one season at Watford but that was a long time ago and he's been playing at a much lower level since. Worth a punt on a cheap loan deal, I suppose it's better than nothing or spending a large wad of cash on King.

The Nigerian Inzaghe:drool:

It doesn't make it any less desperate. If one injury is enough to leave us in this kind of crisis that doesn't look good on the decision makers at the club.
I didn't say it wasn't. Thats due to having a light squad due to injuries, not a case of targeting average players. Comparing us to Arsenal is just ignoring context. As I said, chill out.

I am all for adding a body but this is ridiculous.

Agreed, at this stage we could just go and get a body out of the nearest morgue. This dude has been out in the wilderness since 2017, he's of no use at this point.

Exactly.
It seems that whatever we do or don't do, there is massive criticism.
The point is - who else is actually available on a loan deal.

Clearly it is not ideal but under the circumstances it may well be the least worst option. Worst being not signing anyone.

Yeah he did seem to fall of the radar, but I just seen though he was top goalscorer last season at african cup of nations, which is pretty decent I guess.

I would like to know what people's problem is with a 6 month loan deal.

6 points from top 4 still in Europa. Just signed Bruno, Pogba and mctominay will be back some time next month but yeah, let's write it off. Also I don't how it's good for Greenwood to play 60 games in his 1st professional season.
Season is no way a right off. Let’s get back in the CL if possible. Easier with an extra striker. Greenwood will still get the right amount of minutes for his development.
We cannot string together two wins. We aren’t going to catch a 6-point gap.

I'm calm. This is the kind of poor planning that has seen Arsenal sign players like Kallstrom and Denis Suarez in the past, and even Cedric Soares this window. It's a valid comparison.

From my side, not at all. But for all the strikers we´ve been linked to this window, this one seem to be really at the bottom of the sack. Based on stats, that is.

I'll be honest i thought this story was a step too far even for our resident kool aid drinkers but apparently not.

A lot of you have never played Football Manager and it shows.

What's the point in moaning? At this point he's our only real option and he's there to do a job until the end of the season if we get him. It's a no lose situation, we effectively play with no striker when Martial can't be arsed anyway.

If he signs will he be the first Nigerian (as a naija boi myself) to play for Manchester United? Can't think of any in the past

come on man, it's not like this is a top class Chelsea side not dropping points. We've problems breaking down defensive sides due to lack of creativity in our mid. We've just added one in Fernandes, we've another one back in Feb in Pogba, that's around 150 million worth of talent there to come back. Have faith......

I would understand this type of signing, a loan who is literally just an extra player who might do ok. Makes more sense than splashing out money on King, a player we would be buying only because Rashford is injured.

Don't like how we are scratching around in the bins looking for any decent leftovers. But I guess that's what happens when you don't plan well in the summer when there are plenty more players to go for.

Get him over the line.. we need players who can play some minutes not bloody King injured until march.

Well if it happens then we will soon find out.
I am not expecting much but on balance it may be worth giving him a go.

I don't have a problem with this in a vacuum. It's the shambolic running of the club that has forced us into a situation where we're scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel, desperately looking for anyone with a pulse hours before the deadline that I have a problem with. I imagine it's the same for most in here that are complaining.

I have a vague memory of someone having to choose between Nigeria and England. Possibly Welbeck? I think he might be the first Nigerian international though.

Primarily we were looking to sign a player on loan, which indicates this would be a stop game signing, so not, it's it a valid comparison.
