Nottingham Forest

United fans calling Liverpool, pool annoy me. No idea why, I probably need to get out more.

Notts County FC is the official name. So the abbreviation 'Notts' is specifically associated with them.

Nottingham Forrest FC is the official name name of their rivals. So you'd be making a faux pas by calling them 'Notts'.

It would be like calling an Apple Mac a PC just because it's a personal computer. I mean, it kind of is. But you'd have to be out-of-the-loop and a bit naive to not understand the difference.

You'd get the same weird looks if you called Birmingham the Hammers or if you assumed that United referred to Newcastle United.

Glad forest are close to being back where they belong

Great club with great fans. Steeped with history.

Well done Garner. I think he is ready for our first team now.

I was going to say that the main reason nobody refers to Forest as Notts Forest is because of Notts County's existence. It would be like if City's official club name was Manc City and United's was Manchester United, then people started saying Manc United.
Yeah, I see your logic :)

On another topic, big game tonight for North Town.

First choice keeper is back, I think?
Yes, huge game tonight for North Town aka 'The Shoe Army'. Indeed, Roberts is back in goal from suspension. I think that one or two others are 50/50 for tonight. Would be nice to see them get the job done via the play off's, as the final league game of the season was a bit crushing.

Why are they called Forest anyway? A quick google search tells me there's no forest anywhere near the ground

Probably due to Sherwood Forest and the Robin Hood saga.

Also can someone please correct the thread title to the appropriate name -Notts Forest ?

I know. I was thinking the same thing about Crystal Palace as there is no palace of crystals anywhere near their ground.

Anyways, would be great to see Notts Jungle back in the PL. Didn’t know Chelsea London blue fans have a disliking for their name.

Not sure how “great” the fans are. They all walked out of the youth cup final at the final whistle and didn’t stay to see their lads get their medals and they also need to shake some of the small time lower league chants and “you’re shit ahhhhhhhh” they do when opposition keepers kick the ball… the incident last night and assault on Fleck was also quite poor.

They are a big, well supported club though and I’d like to see them go up. Hopefully would help some of their fans get their class back as they have better pedigree than those kind of antics.

And yet, Robin Hood's supposed burial ground is in a village next to Huddersfield...

Can you explain your thinking on this comment ?

People around here still call it that sometimes. I don't know if it's still the same now, but there was an area called St. Anns I was told to avoid at all costs if I ever visited the city.
"Around here", where? I don't know re St. Anns, but as far as I know, around 10+ years ago, a lot of the city wasn't safe. It's come on leaps and bounds since then, though.

There actually was a crystal palace (made of glass), but it was destroyed in a fire in the '30s.

A lot of Notts Forest fans letting themselves down last night, pissing in cups and throwing it on the Sheff Utd fans, assaulting players on the pitch and attacking fans outside afterwards who weren't even looking for trouble. Never liked their arrogant fanbase since League One days will be hoping 'uddersfield turn them over at Wembley even more now.
All you had to do was called Huddersfield Hudds and this was the perfect post

Yorkshire.

To be fair it was around 15-ish years ago when I was told to avoid that area.

Ah okay. To be honest, I've only heard people refer to it by that moniker when talking about 10-15 years ago, anyway.

Awesome scenes, their fans deserve it 100%. Such a likeable team!

Superb stuff. So good to have them back.

Good to see Forest back, guess their European cup wins and Clough era makes it feel like they should be in the top division.

Great to see them back. They were in the PL when I was growing up and they’ve got two European Cups. Proper club.

Delighted for them, Forest have an old but one of the best stories in English football history so it’s great to see them back and am looking forward to playing them next season.

I'm very pleased to see them getting promoted and back in the top flight again after 23 years.

I think that they have a better chance of staying up next season than Bournemouth, but we'll see.
