Nicolas Pepe - Signs for Arsenal

United looking at a RW, Surely not. Whats next a proper first team RB?

Has the world gone mad.

All for adding him, I just hope this doesn’t mean we give up on Sancho, be it this summer or next.
Maybe Sancho has already told us that he is going to stay at Dortmund. Pepe will be a good fit for us. He reminds me a lot of Mane.

Step 1 : Decide on what formation are we looking to play next season. If its a 4-3-3 then we need to consider LW as well, currently none of the players can play well or consistently on either wings. Martial, Sanchez, Lingard, Mata all suited more for down the middle.
Step 2: If its not 4-3-3 don't waste time considering, preparing, making a bid.

We are desperate for a new right side, and Pepe looks like one of the best options we have at RW. Bring in a new RB that is solid defensively (Wan-Bissaka?) and allow Pepe to stay high. If we can get a new RCM as well, I think we will look like an entirely different team.

I do not believe any links about right sided attackers. I will only believe it when one is being photoed at AON complex.

His numbers look impressive but some of the reports I've seen about him technically are less than glowing.

If we are going to play a traditional 433, long term, we need an entirely new front three.

One name, Obi Mikel. Though it was not at AON complex.

JP, you like this guy for us? His youtube looks good. Himself and James bombing up and down the pitch would be a lot more exciting than the slow stuff we’ve been trying to do through the middle. Lukaku gives the thumbs up.

I like him in Ligue 1, he is a good player but I really struggle when it comes to project him outside of it because he hasn't played in european competitions at all. He could be slightly better than Memphis or could be as good as Salah but I'm not in a position to tell.

Cheers. Worth the gamble so because with our wings it’s like playing with 8 players with only shaw providing any width and he’s not exactly super creative An extra body doing stuff in the general direction of the opposition goal would be an improvement at this stage. I think he could be another mane and that would be a cracking signing. If he fails sell him for half and move on. Hopefully sancho will be coming to us next year anyway and Chong will be further along then too.

Last I heard, likes of Bayern were interested in him. Would probably prefer a CL club if he has multiple offers.

Though at this point, I'm just relieved we are looking at a RW in general. Any RW would be an upgrade.

Similar to Sadio then.

I’m not a massive fan, or should I say, massively convinced - but I do believe we are in a position where we need to do something. I’ve definitely seen enough to say he could go either way and be an extreme success, that’s not at all impossible. In fairness to him, I think it depends as much on us as it does on him. If he joined Arsenal or City, I’d give him a greater chance of success. With us, a wide player needs to be better than him for you to be confident of success, as we play slow and disjointed football.

Wasn't Hazard at Lille? Not comparing but Lille seem to have an eye for a good young talent

Hazard was an academy player and they signed some serious duds, so I wouldn't use Hazard as a reference.

Hazard was another level though and left Lille when he was even younger.

My big worry with Pepe is his technical ability. He can be clumsy at times with his ball control but he shouldn't struggle with physical aspects.

Looks a good player but not direct enough for my liking (from what I've seen). Bergwijn looks far better in that respect though obviously hes played mostly on the left.

Thought he looked quite a player from highlights. What do the reports say?
People think he over runs the ball sometimes when dribbling, and he isn't "always in control".

They think he won't do quite as well in England as there is less space, so his dribbling might get shown up more.

Hmmm. Don't see that in highlight reels do we. I don't know if that's a big worry for me so long as the potential to improve is there.

He looks very physically aware for a winger, which would suit the league.

He seems t be a tall winger, very physical and technically gifted. I know most would prefer Jadon but he would cost us 100m+. Frey would cost half of that which means we can squeeze 1-2 more players in

I'd be happy with this signing tbh. We can forget Sancho but Pepe might be available.

There was plenty of width and space begging in quite a few matches this season. None more frustrating than the last two we lost and tied against relegated teams.

We could do with both of them bc Martial, Rashford, Alexis, all just cut in. We have no service out wide.

Pepe tends to cut in too. I want someone like Ounas who can consistently stretch the right side. He's the only one I can think of, apart from Sancho but Ounas is cheaper.

I did a stat per mins comparison below.

Yup, I like Bergwijn and Chiesa. I have done lot of Youtube research in this regard. :D
I think both would solve our wing problems and we can move dumb and dumber (Martial and Rashy) to compete as strikers.

At his height he's never going to look as graceful running with the ball as players who are about 10cm shorter.

I like the idea of us signing him and another player like maybe Fekir who can play from RW position but then also start as a number 10 too. Basically what Bernardo Silva and De Bruyne can do for City for a bit of flexibility.

This is the kind of signing I'd love us to make. Productive, hungry and room to improve. Having seen the Mané comparisons I thought I'd find our old Mané thread to see how people rated him at the time we were linked. Reads pretty funny now in hindsight with many posters stating he's the kind of mediocre signing Liverpool make and that we need to sign a better player like Pedro instead...:nervous: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/sadio-mané.408248/

My number 1 choice for the right and the style Ole claims he wants to play. Like some have said his technique is very rash but nothing like a Lukaku first touch rash.

I like that I selected yay . Not surprised the cafetards didn’t rate him.

That’s exactly who I wanted us to go for, still don’t trust our club to follow through with this transfer.

He'd be a really good addition. I think it's safe to forget about Sancho for this summer, and focus on making the club an attractive destination for next summer because right now, there's just zero reason why Sancho would want to come to United and plenty of clubs can offer good money.

I'm actually shocked, I was positive about Mané. It seems that my opinion changed the second he signed for Liverpool.
