NHL playoffs

Can't see Dallas beating Detroit over 7 games. Figure the Wings take this series in 5 or 6 but I hope I'm wrong.

BTW, has the NHL apologized to Dallas for overturning Morrow’s legit goal in game 5?

It was not a deliberate kicking motion. One, Morrow never saw the puck to even attempt to “kick it in.” Two, the reason he even gave a slight appearance of “kicking” was the fact he was trying to stop his momentum – otherwise he’d have run right through the goaltender. That legit goal would have given Dallas a 2-0 lead later increased to 3-0 when Morrow scored a few minutes later. San Jose managed to get two goals back but they’d never have managed to push that match into OT. That overturn looked as clear as a home call as one could get. Perfectly legit. Thankfully Dallas finished off the Sharks last night but not after needlessly playing what amounts to two additional games. But please tell me how the replay officials, paid employees of the NHL, manage to boggle that legit goal.

I must thank the Sharks for killing my hockey pool as I hadn't lost a series until the Stars beat them down. And since they were my pick to win the Cup I'm screwed! :annoyed::mad:

Yeah didnt see that one coming, both them and the Avs capitualted, though the Sharks would win their series and the Avs would at least win a game or two and put up resistance. I hope Pittsburgh wins though they have some great players

I`m just about the only person who drafted some of the Stars(took the Ribeiro/Lehtinen/Morrow line) so I`m behind them big time if I`m to make up the points to get 1st place. I think I`m just a bit too far behind, might have to settle for 2nd or 3rd and just my money back.

Well, I had them beating Colorado. (I participate in a series winner pool)

fecking Stars. I'm rooting for the Pens. Crosby is the shiznit, fo shizzle.

As for the Stars, down 3-0 they're done. But wait... in 1942 Toronto rallied from 3-0 to overturn Detroit in 7 games. Then in 1975 the Islanders did the same to Pittsburgh. Let's do some quick math here... 1942.. 1975... that's 33 years... 1975... 2008.. that's 33 years.

Hmmmm....

forget the stars, they're done. Ribeiro has done feck all for my pool in this series.

Ribeiro has been utter wank in this series. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are ridiculously good for Detroit. Sergei Fedorov is what made me like the Red Wings in the 90s. Hope they win the cup.

Yzerman... pure class. Federov fell into his own hype by the late 90s. Stevie Y maintained professionalism all the way through.

I still put an asterisk next to the 98 cup win. If Marchment doesn't cheap shot Nieuwendyk in game one of the opening round, he's healthy for the conference finals versus Detroit. Losing Nieuwy would be akin to Detroit having lost Yzerman. As seen with the 99 cup run, Nieuwy was the offensive catalyst and an emotional leader for the club. His presence was the difference between a loss in 98 and a win in 99.

It will be an intersting final between Detroit - Pittsburgh. Philadelphia was more or less fecked already before the serie started, without their main player Timonen. Detroit was really good already against Anaheim last year - now they have certainely excelled, and they do that relying on multiple swedes, a russian and a finn + rafalski. So much for all the talk of weak Europeans.

Anyways, will be good to see a quality player like Jarkko Ruutu lift the cup for Pittsburgh (still think Crosby and Malkin will do the job) - he deserves it.

Will be moving to San Francisco next year for a 2 year working session - really looking forward to attending San Jose & NHL games next season.

Ribero is utter wank...glad to see the back of him when Montreal traded him...I can't believe the contract he signed in Dallas.

The Detroit - Pittsburgh Final has the potential to be a classic.

I predict Detroit wins in 6 games.

Im just glad the stars lost
Ill always hate those cnuts for fecking over Buffalo in the Stanley Cup

As an old guy who supported the Rangers back when there were only 6 teams in the NHL, I'm backing the Red Wings as the representative of the "Original Six." And they'll win in six as well.

Pittsburgh got one back last night and played really well -- but did not get off as many shots as Detroit and always looked as if they might concede. Nail biting if you were a Penguin fan!

NHL couldn't have asked for more. An actual series instead of the probable sweep most would have envisioned. A classic see-saw finish that looked like Detroit would eventually score the equalizer (and probably would have won in OT). But the most important thing was poster boy Crosby scoring two goals on national television.

Zetterberg... is there a more beautiful skater in the league? Modano was the smoothest skater I ever saw, how he would just glide from zone to zone. Zetterberg reminds me so much of him except that he's bigger and stronger. He's near unstoppable at the moment.

5th longest game in Stanley Cup final history, Penguins win to keep the series alive. With talk that ESPN want back into the NHL, and Crosby in the finals what more could the NHL have wanted?

The Wings will take the cup, and the Penguins will be back no doubt about that. Crosby and co are too talented not to win it, as long as they can retain everyone. I don't think they'll create a dynasty, but the Pens are probably the closest thing to the Oilers team of the 80's since they split up. However, it's not going to be enough this year.

Great game last night -- Detroit were so much better (shots on goal) but as the commentator said you don't win games based on shots -- I thought possibly the youth of the Penguins won that -- and Detroit figured fine we will win it in Pittsburgh!

Great advertisement for the game!

NHL is the only American sport I can't watch. How the feck can you see the puck when it's moving so fast?

You can watch MLB over NHL:lol: Dont get me wrong playoff baseball is entertaining especially with Joe Buck at the helm, but hockey is so much more entertaining

It's complicated at first but easily picked up, Ive watched skysports for years and still haev no idea whats going on in cricket

This is the first series I've watched and am really enjoying it. Definitely the best North AMerican sport. Takes a while to get used to watching the puck though. From what I've seen Detroit look like the much better team and should've won the series by now. And why are most hockeyplayers bearded?

its some sort of superstition they have, they call it the playoff beards!!!

Quoting myself...Detroit will win tonight

;)

Best team won. But I think this season saw the birth of a dynasty and I'm not talking about the Wings...

I really don't think the Pens will be able to create such a thing to be honest. The salary cap will ensure that at some point they'll lose players and by being a decent side it will be a while before they get any top picks. I do however think they are capable of becoming a team that could have matched the Oilers of the 80's. Hockey has moved on though and I can't see the Pen's dominating as much.

Next season is a huge season for them, they've got to come back from this loss, MAF has to come back from that goal, a lot of questions need answering. Remember that the Oilers of the 80's lost the first attempt at the Stanley and came back the following year and won. Can Pitt's do that?

It sounds crazy, but I'm getting excited about hockey again right now.. Yes, at the very end of the this season, the hockey bug has gripped me again, not since the return from the lock out, and the Oilers ultimate failed run for the cup that year have I felt so good about hockey. This series has activated the bug again... Come October, late nights streaming games, listening if no streams, and trips around the UK following the local team. I've got hockey back in my blood...

If Sid scored with a second to go.....it would have been sick hate the Red Wings, obviously

Very unfortunate the puck slid between two Wings players came to Crosby's backside and he never had a a chance to control and take a good shot yet still managed to get a decent shot. The followup poke shot by the Pens player wouldn't have counted due to that ridiculous rule of where the puck is at :00. I feel as long as a player gets the shot off before time expires then the flight of the puck should count until stopped. Could you imagine if basketball ruled in this manner that if the ball hasn't gone through the next before :00 it does not count. Ridiculous.
