Nhl 2010-2011

Toronto with 4 wins in a row:eek:

Some surprising starts to the season so far but that's the new NHL;)

IS so you are a Dead Wings fan and a Djurgårdare, I'm surprised you aren't rooting for Liverpool too:D

Yes, those are the most well-supported teams in Stockholm after all :D.

No, but I wouldn't call myself a Wings fan, though I watch many of their games and like many of their players and the way they play the game.

I have enough on my plate with DIF and United, I don't feel the need to follow another team religiously.

I'm watching Tampa quite a lot this year too, they are playing some great hockey so far. Stamkos is amazing.

But at the end of the day they should just hand Toronto the cup already and be done with it.

Yeah, I watched that. Right after I posted a long post hailing Detroit as my favourites to win the SC . Quite the hammering, although starting Osgood certainly helped Dallas' cause.

I think Dallas has a very underrated team. Great top 6 and goaltending (if Lehtonen stays healthy). Defence could be better though.

Oh FFS, first I hype Detroit, then Tampa and look what happens.

This is why I don't bet on hockey.

After the Lord Mayor's show, comes the familiar stench of defeat. The Oilers get off to to a good start, and the last two games have been tried hard, but didn't have enough. Mind you early days and the youngsters are bedding in. Down in the minors, our farm team after 3 defeats in a row (not surprising as they only managed 1 practise as a team the day before the first game), have found the feet and won the last couple. Omak with his first goals and assists in the AHL.

As for the NHL, I'm not buying into any Hogtown hype, Burke may have put together a better team this year, but it's not cup contender.

I'm wondering though if the issue of the salary cap and it's limitations for injury hit teams is going to be sorted. I didn't expect 3 or 4 teams to be running short benches already. I think the league will have to look into making a short term injury IR list which will allow call up's.

Pick a Stanley Cup champion!

I'm going with the Wings still.

Philly, the Pens and the Canucks are quite probable too IMO.

So long as the Wings stay healthy I think they are a good shout.

Although I've got the Kings as a dark horse. They've been very very good so far.

Ah, what a satisfying win over the Pens (and the refs).

how do you feel tonight?

One thing that I think has really fecked the NHL over is not having big games on a few nights a week on a channel like ESPN and ESPN2, channels I actually watch unlike whatever the feck they are on now. Fox Sports has the Kings and DUcks, but the Avs are my team, and I like watching the Original 6 play a lot too and that doesnt really happen all that much

The games are on Versus I think, not a big channel though. You don't have Altitude the Avs channel? Big win tonight vs the Sharks:D

I wasnt aware that Altitude was available outside of the Denver market, if there were a way to purchase that channel I would be all for it, but I dont think there is. CBC would be nice too, a good hockey night in Canada is always nice every now and then on Saturday Night

Oops forgot you are in Cali now? NHL center ice package then? NHL Center Ice - NHL.com - NHL Center Ice

Or online streaming? I'm able to see pretty much every AVS game in watchable quality despite not paying for a stream package this year, those cost around 100 bucks.

Yeah, well the thing that kind of sucks is that I feel in love with hockey mainly watching the games in person, watchign it on tv is nice, but to go to the game, it's exhilirating. I used to sit 2nd row behind the goal at Pepsi Center and would be awesome to see someone tee up a huge slapper and just say thank feck I am not in row 12, although that was before the nets went up. I saw a game at the Pond which was pretty nice, but people in California are largely twats that no nothing about hockey and it seemed that way inside the arena too.

Stamkos' goalscoring this year is just ridiculous.

I'm seriously beginning to think that he's a Crosby/Ovechkin level talent.

Bizarre game against the Flyers now.. 3-5 [edit 4-5] and the first period isn't even over.

hopefully he doesn't have the ovechkin dedication level.

Bruins get their second win in two nights with a 4-0 score over florida...milan lucic with a hattrick (10th goal in 17 games). Go B's!

Colby Cohen just got traded

I know there are a few Avs fans on here, I think we may end of regretting this one

I've heard good things about him from his College days, he played with Shattenkirk (who has been pretty impressive himself) in College as well

Hannan also traded to Washington, Avs get Fleischmann in return. The Avs are stacked on young D prospects and guess Cohen was the odd man out. Seen him play a few times when he was playing with Avs this season and not been very impressed. He has 1 point in 14 AHL games and is supposed to be a offensive D man with a booming shot... Shattenkirk has always been a much bigger prospect. Cohen about being traded, "I was praying," he said. "I had a few cities in mind, but I was praying it wasn't Edmonton, and when he said Boston, I was like, 'Wow, this couldn't be any better.". Not seen much of Hunwick, he is a small offensive d-man that can skate and play tough but has struggled points wise the past 2 seasons. Could be a nice addition if he plays like he did his rookie year when he had 27 points in just 53 games.

Avs needed another forward because of all injuries atm so bringing in Fleischmann makes sense and Hannan would most likely have left after the season anyway. Fleischmann is a potential top6/9 50-70 point player. I will give the new players a chance, a new team, city and system is all some players need. Peter Mueller and Ville Leino(Flyers) are great examples of that. Now if only Wilson and Cumiskey could be sent packing....

Yeah, his pre season was not impressive, but truth be told, neither was Shattenkirk's. He was bad in the preseason, bad when he got sent back down, but took his chance when he was called back up.

I just don't like giving up on 21 year old prospects

Fleischmann has potential to be a better player then Hannan (if you can compare a LW to a shutdown Dman) but he seems to be very inconsistent

Quincey needs to come back from his injury stronger then he started the season as well

Good trade for Washington I reckon. Hannan isn't amazing or anything, but that's the kind of player that could really help them overcome their play-off choking. They already had too many Fleischmanns on the team if you know what I mean.

The Leafs' troubles coming to an end?

Rogers in $1.3B talks to buy majority stake in Leafs empire - thestar.com

Talk about mega deals. The NHLs Leafs (and Marlies farm team), NBAs Raptors and MLS' TFC.

I'm pretty sure the Leafs spend close to the salary cap every season so this won't affect the team on the ice much if it happens, it's probably just to monopolize the Canadian hockey tv market by having exclusive Leafs games and shutting away TSN like the article says.

Maybe another owner would allow them to do a proper rebuild. Burke was allegedly forbidden to do one when they hired him. That Kessel trade is starting to head into Mike Milbury territory.

Burke's hands seem pretty free to me but we really have no idea what happens behind the scenes. Boston lost the Thornton trade but Toronto really messed this one up...

Rask for Raycroft isn't looking too shabby either. Toronto is basically Boston's personal Santa Claus

The Leafs fans aren't overjoyed with the rumors of them getting Blake Wheeler from Boston, can't blame them.:D

One commonly held notion is that the Teacher's (the pension fund that is the majority stakeholder) only care about the bottom line, not winning. Toronto fans fill the ACC win or lose so there isn't a lot of risk taking. The speculation is that Rogers will want to increase television revenue by putting out a winning team (I think that's in the article).

They will dominate not just the hockey market but all major sports in the largest Canadian market, southern Ontario, should this deal go through. It's staggering but I wonder if competition complaints will scupper the idea.

I have heard that theory before. It's a bit like when Sky tried to buy United isn't it?

marc savard returns to the ice tonight for the Bs after basically missing the last nine months with the concussion and it's affects. they're charged up too. kicking tampa's ass at 6-1 with 15 mins left in the 3rd. stamkos and st. louie have been quiet.

edit: 8-1 w/5min to go.

The Bruins are strong this season, solid goalies,D and a good offense shame that I betted under 5.5 goals in the Lightning-Bruins match....

Just how bad are the Flames right now? Good grief even the Oilers have moved above them in the rankings. I know the Oilers are streaking and way to go Taylor Hall and all that, but to fall below the Oilers you've got to be poor.

Great save by Thomas last night though for Boston, shame they got beat by the Leafs. Talking of the Leafs, the shut out by the Oilers earlier this week was the first time the Oilers had ever blanked them in Toronto, not even the dynasty team did that.

The Flames are bad, Colorado,Columbus and maybe Wild aren't making fans happy either. Seems like the Avs are going for the tank considering that Budaj keeps playing, 3 or more goals conceded in 14 out of 17 matches this season..... I don't care if Anderson goes blind I would rather have him in net anyway. The Western conference is extremely close this season, apparently teams might need over 100 points to get into the playoffs in the west.
