NFL Thread

If Geno went to the Patriots, he'd be in the Superbowl right now for the 49ers.

thats a stupid article written by a talk show host. we even discussed the issue at the time in this thread.

no it wasnt, the math is clear.

sorry but i think a chart backed by actual data is a lot more interesting than analysis like this

Then, on Monday Night, in a play that ended up becoming meaningless, the Giants down 14 scored a touchdown with 14 minutes left and elected to go for two. They failed, the team lost. Analytics again said the Giants made the right call. Stop it, they didn't.

Two teams playing the analytics of suddenly going for two, each big, fat, losers.

The only good thing in this Superbowl is Tony Romo .

Been an awful game so far

Rams offense needs to stay on field for at least five minutes. Give defense a break, they will be gassed by the time Brady stages a wide open throw comeback.

Can't believe we've to listen to this Romo guy when the current England and future United manager is in attendance

So you value the subjective gut feeling of a Person higher than objective maths? Weird.
How many football games have you guys coached and called plays in?

There’s so much more than analytics can’t take into account. Personnel on the field, momentum, morale on the team, how much you’ve prep’d for that situation that week, how well you executed in that situation in practice, etc.

But yeah, math and shit. It has its place, tendencies are good to know, but it should not be what makes the decisions for you.

Rams offence cannot stay on the field. They are missing Gurley badly.

ignoring the first part, which is obnoxious. the second paragraph has some good points. absolutely those things matter and coaches have to take them into account. but they should do so from a baseline of understanding what the analytics say. and time after time its been shown that they dont.

All those things are part of the equation and make up those numbers. Believing you can consistently beat the odds is nothing but hubris and doomed to fail.

The 1st part is how I know about the 2nd part.
