In fairness to McCarthy, those six points were gifted off turnovers so basically free points. But he should have tried to go for it on one of those possessions IMO. Go for the jugular.

Of course if pack goes for it on one of those two plays and fails that takes 3 pts off the board early in the game and might change the momentum. Early in the game you need to take the points. Especially off of turnovers
Failure to convert either or both turnovers into TDs was big but once you hit 4th down on the road you take the points that early in the game
There is no right or wrong here. It's the coach's mindset and/or philosophy. Some coaches will take the points, others may go for it once, and the rest might go for the "kill" both times.
Edit: Excellent point above my post. Home/away, quarter, and scoreline are huge factors.
