NFL Thread 2013-14

Oh well, good game. Very disappointing because the Green Bay defense lost the game by very small margins.

My predictions for next week: Panthers, Seahawks, Broncos & Patriots to win.

I had the Seahawks beating Denver before the season started and I'm going to stick with that prediction.

I'd be surprised if Seattle don't make the Superbowl, especially with their home field advantage. In the AFC, I shouldn't doubt Brady but without Gronk I don't see them beating Denver, assuming both sides win next week.

Even if the Pats loose, the Colts are certainly a capable team and could make a game of it with the Broncos.

Absolutely everyone said the Broncos were Superbowl certs last season too.

Brandon Spikes the latest Pats defender to be injured. Put on IR. So many injuries :(

I can't see that happening in Seattle. I could see it happening at Candlestick, but not in Seattle. Though the playoffs always seem to throw up a result where a home team is beaten which I just never saw coming

Yep - will be a different game in Seattle versus the Stick for sure. But I think the Cardinals getting a win there has at least shaken the thought that they are unbeatable at home (albeit still having an amazing record there). Also this Niners team is getting better and better each week as Crabtree improves and the offense adapts to his presence.

Seattle will be favourites going into the game, but the Niners team that will hopefully face them will be much stronger than the team that played them at the beginning of the season.

Of course, we have to deal with Carolina first.

Way to go Florida State. Excellent game save the second quarter that gave the impression of a potential blowout.

NFL picks: 49ers over Panthers, Seahawks over Saints, Broncos over Chargers, Patriots over Colts

 Suck it up, Steelers fan. If your fav club hadn't been so shit for half the season, they wouldn't have needed other clubs to lose in the final weekend. Just another reason to despise Steelers fans.

Inmate files motion against NFL over Chargers making the playoffs

The San Diego Chargers proved they belong in the playoffs with an upset win over the Bengals last Sunday.

If it was up to one Pennsylvania inmate, the justice system wouldn’t have let them take the field. After San Diego’s controversial Week 17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Daniel Spuck filed a motion against the NFL in U.S. District Court seeking an emergency injunction to suspend the playoffs.

Clearly it was not successful.

Spuck, of Mercer, Pa., is one of the many people (especially in Western Pennsylvania) outraged that an illegal formation penalty was not called on the Chargers on Ryan Succop’s field goal attempt at the end of regulation against the Chiefs. Had the kick been good, San Diego would have lost the game, sending the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs. The NFL even admitted that the refs screwed up the call.

Several remedies in Mr. Spuck’s handwritten filing included:

I. A rekick by (Chiefs) Brian Succup (sic) thus making the Field Goal 37 yards instead of 41 yards
II. Pittsburgh Steelers v San Diego Chargers match-up on nuetral site (sic) to determine 6th seed
III. Commissioner Roger Goodell, defendant allowing this protest due to the fact that Reid could not challenge an obvious error on instant replay and declare Chiefs winners + allow Steelers as six seed
IV. And or money damages of excess of $25,000 plus count all legal costs.

The entire filing can be viewed here.

According to the Baltimore Sun, which initially reported the story Wednesday, Spuck did not submit a filing fee, pretty much rendering his motion dead.

Gronks surgery went well. If we are lucky he will be back for the preseaon.

I've been backing Carolina since the end of last season so I won't stop now. Steve Smith is back, and I have confidence in that defense stifling Kaepernick. Newton is playing his lights out right now, and I think that will be the difference.

Close game, but a Panthers win.

New Orleans have improved, but they haven't improved enough for me to see anything other than a Seattle win.

Indy @ New England - two great quarter backs playing with average players and not very good defenses. I'm going New England just cos Luck will make mistakes.

San Diego @ Denver - who cares about this game, really? Probably Denver.

Really looking forward to today's games. United & Pats winning and a Pete Carroll loss would result in the perfect day.

So far, the Saints are doing a good job at imploding.

Brilliant from Seattle so far. Brees needs to do something special, unfortunately I don't see that happening.

Also, I would've thought with the Super Bowl being in New York, they may have got someone better than Bruno Mars to do the HT show.
