NFL Thread 2013-14

This has been an awful, awful 4 minutes.

They're catching everything! feck off.

Good win and performance, aside for the last 5 mins.

Run game was strong, Brady made some nice throws, Thompkins impressed, Edelman had a good game, OL was very good. D was solid enough for the most part. Talib made 2 huge plays, get him a new contract, please!

Overall a good night and a 4-0 record now.

With Gronk & Amendola close to returning, things are looking better for the Pats & Brady.

As Al Davis would say: just win, baby!

Good throw. Very impressive performance so far from the Vikings offense. Cassell's probably got the QB spot now, unless he fecks up the remainder of the game.

Steelers need to score now, their D can't stop Minnesota.

Oh! Something with his foot, feck!

Yeah, thought he had a fine game, easily better than Ponder. With some even decent throwing threat, surely AP would have more room for every other down.

Coaching staff is stuck at the hip with Ponder, it seems. Unfortunately. Last nights game shows what this team can do with someone who can force the ball downfield and take advantage of the 7-8-9 man fronts opposing Ds stack against AP. Matt Cassel is definitely not the future either, but Ponder most certainly isn't.

That being said, Ike Taylor dropped two certain INTs (EDIT: Actually, huge credit to rookie Cordarelle Patterson for punching one of those potential INTs out of Taylors hands!) and heads-up play by AP and Jerome Simpson prevented a Cassel fumble being recovered by Pittsburg. It definitely helps that the Steelers D sucks balls and creates no pressure or takeaways. Ponder has faced three great Ds in the three first games and in at least two of them did enough to secure the win, had the D come up with the stop as they did today. We almost threw it away again with "play-not-to-lose" playcalling and stupid play in the fourth quarter. That PI from Josh Robinson! And allowing a 36 yard completion on first-and-10 during the final drive. Thank feck for that forced fumble at the 6 yard line. Let's see how Cassel does against Carolina, whose D-line has been pretty ferocious this season.

Awesome to have our ProBowl fullback back blowing people up and creating holes for AP. He took his opportunities today. Offensive line a LOT better today, both in pass protection and run blocking. APs 60 yard run was thanks to former backup quarterback Joe Webb absolutely stonewalling Troy Palomalu (and AP breaking tackles for fun, of course). D got consistent pressure too, despite our secondary being absolutely torched.

If Xavier Rhodes isn't starting over Josh Robinson going forward and Cassel getting at least a few more starts, this coaching staff is asking for the axe imo. Bishop needs to start before Marvin Mitchell too.

In other news, my fantasy team drops to 3-1 because NE secondary allows a 49 yard fecking catch to Julio Jones. Bat that fecking ball away! Didn't help that I benched Tony Gonzales either of course. And that Peyton never threw the ball to his replacement, Julius Thomas. And Morris, CJ2K, Megatron, Cecil Shorts and DeAndre Hopkins all underperforming. Wouldn't even have been close to pulling to 4-0 without my pickup of the week, Kansas City D/ST though :)

The fact we have managed to get to 4-0 with rookie WR and TE apart from Edelman is just amazing. Cant wait for Gronk and Amendola to get back now too. Really like the look of Thompkins as well.

Wilfork has torn his achilles. Apparently no chance of a return this season.

The big man is going to be a huge loss for us. Unfortunately, we keep getting injuries to key personnel.

Shit! Massive loss, literally.

Tommy Kelly really needs to step up to the plate big time. Hopefully he can deliver the goods and see us through.

Atlanta bottled that last play. The game should have gone to overtime.

Impressive from the Patriots. They've lost an immense load of talent this season but manage to keep grinding out wins (2 of those wins against the Jets and Bills).

I reckon Wilfork had been playing injured this season actually. He'd been very quiet, which is very unlike him.

It'll be interesting to see what they do to replace him now- they've got Tommy Kelly, Chris Jones & Joe Vellano for that spot. Nothing special there. One slightly above average veteran, an undrafted rookie & a 6th round pick who was released by two teams before ending up on the Pats' roster.

I can see them trading for someone.

Yep, wouldn't be surprised if it was an issue he was playing through, that popped on him. It’s not even that he’s been quiet as he's not always a flashy player, you'll usually notice him occupying two blockers on a second watch of the game. The Jets game was eye opening though, you could see him getting moved around in the run game on the TV copy. By someone he’d usually destroy like Ducasse.

Just read about the whole Josh Freeman fiasco. I'm sure he's to blame for what's happened as well, but the revelation he's in the drug abuse program was a real cheap shot and was clearly leaked by someone in their organisation (probably the coach). Feel a bit bad for him, he's a decent QB who probably needs the support of the coaches right now but doesn't appear to have it.

I've always thought their coach came across as a cnut.

Freeman just been released by the Bucs. What the hell happened to him? I thought he was an up and coming QB looking at last year's performances.

Surprised they released him, must be some serious conduct issues for them to not even get a trade for him.

Jags should go for him. Maybe a new start will be good, he's a talented QB.

Really like this fellow they have as guest tonight.

Yep, providing some nice insight and analysis. Wish they had people like him on more often, compliments Reynolds' knowledge too.

So, two teams I really rather like are playing on Sunday (Seattle @ Indy), how did you guys go about choosing which franchise to adopt as your 'home team' as it were?

Nice throws on that drive.

Decent game this.

Picked up a copy of Madden for PS2 and the 2 default teams were the Pats and Eagles. Played with the Patriots and adopted them as my team ever since.

Seems that error on the onside kick cost him his chance on the roster. That said, I really don't remember Sudfeld or Houwhatsmyname being targeted by Brady so I don't think he would have had much of a role once Gronk returns.

Ridley out of the game tomorrow, these injuries are getting ridiculous.

Isn't Collie the one who keeps getting concussions? I guess Amendola needs company in the treatment room.

Seriously, I hope he stays healthy for his sake and for the team's sake.
