NFL 2025 | Signings Signings everywhere

Seahawks have signed Sam Darnold, $110m 3 year deal with half guaranteed. Contract isn't as bad as I feared but after his end to the season I'm not filled with much optimism.

Jets have signed Fields to a 2 year, $40m deal. Looking like the Steelers are going for Rodgers, him and Pickens together should be entertaining.
Rapoport and the offical NFL handle had it as a "nearly $100m" deal while Schefter had it at $110.5m (very specific), not sure which one it is?

Have to say I'm not optimistic about him and his chances in Seattle. He "succeeded" for just one season under a top 5 offensive mind in the NFL throwing to the best receiver in the league and a very solid WR2 in Addison, and now goes to a situation where he'll have JSN as his safety blanket but then it's what, Jake Bobo and Noah Fant? Odds are against him imo.

Seattle have the more consistent running game if I'm not mistaken, that's a difference that can balance things out. Now they need a deep threat WR to exploit Darnold's massive arm, otherwise it would be a bit of a waste.

Could be yeah. Would surprise me more if he keeps up his Minnesota level of play in Seattle rather than regresses to the mean of his career though, which is an average, borderline starter material QB imo.

How do you feel about resigning Jones for a 2-year, $20m deal by the way? He looked like he was done last season to me, certainly not the player that he used to be in Green Bay anymore. Not sure about cheaper alternatives out there, but saw Najee Harris went to the Chargers on a one-year, $9m deal who's younger, a better player at this point imo and just a one-year deal obviously.

I think the pickett deal makes sense for the Browns, you get a chance to see if there's anything there and he is on like 1.5 million for the season so it's worth a punt

He was great last season. The only issue is that he can't support the load on his own otherwise he gets injuries which is what happened twice last season, he still played through it and had a pretty good season statistically.

Looks like it's converged on $100.5m now.

I expect we'll either pick someone else up or draft a new WR, will still be a downgrade compared to the Vikings but as @JPRouve suggests, our run game should hopefully balance it out - a large part of the reason Grubb was moved on as OC was his refusal to run the ball more so I think that might hide the Seahawks lack of weaponry beyond JSN.

For me, the bigger issues is our OL. It's been a repeated weakness with John Schneider as GM and last year it was almost as bad as it was in the worst of the Russ years with the only addition on Day 1 of free agency has been Josh Jones to add depth. It's possible that we manage to make a good signing in the rest of free agnecy and draft well in that area for the first time in years but the more likely outcome is Darnold is going to be seeing ghosts again.

Maybe that's partly down to the offensive line but those are less than stellar stats. He was near the bottom of the league in conversion rate inside the 5-yard line as well. Certainly looked like he lost a step and wasn't as explosive anymore as he used to be, but maybe I just watched him in the wrong games then.

He has been announced everywhere but I still hope that the Vikings can land Will Fries. Ryan Kelly and Will Fries plus Darrisaw, O'Neill and Brandel would be nice for McCarthy.

The VIkings have a bad running game in that area and the interior OLine was/is subpar in the running game. Jones was without a doubt great last year, was he perfect? No, but he was great and had one of his best season.

Alright, makes sense to extend him then.

Is it officially McCarthy time or can things still pan out differently?

There is no reason for things to go differently, I don't see Daniel Jones beat him and he isn't even on the roster. At the moment the Vikings have McCarthy and Rypien.

Can’t stand Aaron Rodgers but here he is on the verge of joining to be our starting QB  Him & DK together could be interested although gutted to see Najee leave - definitely a good player in there that can be developed well. Not his fault he’s had to deal with a poor O line and an ageing QB.

If Narcissus Rod joins the Steelers where does Chef Russell end up?
Does Kirk C get the chop in Atlanta?
Will the 49ers give Purdy 50m plus over 4-6 years?

If Kirk is cut that further limits where Russell can land, imo, also contending with Flacco, D Jones (return to Vikings?), M Jones (Browns?), Wentz (resign with KC?), and Winston (49ers interested?).

Off the top of my head these clubs may be seeking a vet QB in a backup or starter role: Colts, Giants, Vikings, Falcons, Titans.

So as things stands the Vikings notable signings are Allen(DT), Kelly(C), Rodgers(CB), Murphy(CB) and Jones(RB). If they can add a guard it's a perfect free agency on paper and they won't have any clear need for the draft.

I could really do without fecking A-a-ron on my team. By now, it really looks like they made a serious miscalculation on the QBs. They should have just kept Fields. His contract with the Jets really isn't too expensive.

Well you could have asked for something more important in your life

Strange trade this one. We are now down 5 starters plus one backup on defence from the superbowl

That one sucks. He had a ropey start to 2024, but he was solid in the 2nd half of the season and through the playoffs. I didn't anticipate them trading away anyone they had locked down, given the amount they were going to lose in FA. I don't know much about Kenyon Green, but I assume that means Becton's gone too?

Hope the resident niners fans are ready for a rough year or 2. Roster has been gutted.

Some of the contracts signed by the Vikings are pure sorcery, Brzezinski does it every year but it never makes sense. Allen has a 3 years 51m contract, 9.25 guaranteed and his contract is designed to be a 1 year contract because post june 26, his dead money would be 12.6m instead of a 21.6m cap hit and this year his cap hit is 6.4m. And there is no guaranteed money in 2027.

This seems wild compared to what he achieved.
