NFL 2024

I would trust that we made the right decision in drafting McCarthy in the first round and save the 30m on Darnold, bringing in a cheaper vet.

That said I've only seen a handful of Vikings games so haven't taken in the full Darnold experience this year.

Is this now Darnold? Or is this the best it's going to get. Can the Vikings and 'this' Darnold even compete in the play offs? I have my doubts.

While he has improved, every QB has produced for KOC. So between Shanahan and KOC, I think that Darnold has been given the development he needed but I don't think that he is elite without KOC, Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson. I see him close to a Fitzpatrick.

Since I can't escape it, I want your opinion on this. Knowing the following, should the Vikings extend Darnold long term?

- Next year the Vikings will have 76m in cap space but Harrison Smith, Gilmore, Aaron Jones, Patrick Jones, Shaq Griffin and Bynum are all free agents. I only mentioned "big" name, there are actually a bunch of other important contributors, they also don't have a backup QB in the books.

Now if you give +30m to Darnold then there is no way to bring more than one big player on defense since you will have around 30m for 30 players. And the Vikings don't have much picks next year.

Would you gamble on Darnold with a severely weakened roster or do you go with McCarthy and maybe Daniel Jones with an even more complete roster than this year?
Let Darnold go and ride JJM on his rookie deal. That said, Aaron Jones shouldn't be brought back regardless, Smith will be 36,5 years old when next season starts, is he still producing at his highest level? Gilmore 35 as well, and not the DPOY player he once was.

It has now happened twice that KOC has had to work with a QB who's been in the league for several years, and got the most out of him. Even that much that people wanted to extend Cousins in Minnesota as well. Now you can finally let him develop his own hand-picked QB prospect, I'd want to see what you have with him. What you save on extending Darnold, you can use to invest on the defensive side of the ball and draft one of the many promising RBs in next year's draft.

The only scenario in which it would make sense to re-sign Darnold is if he takes something like a 2-year, $50m deal where McCarthy can develop behind him, but I don't think that's likely because some other team in the league will take a bigger gamble on Darnold and I could understand it if he wants financial stability instead of a competitive team at this point of his career.

And even if JJM flops (which I doubt), you could have someone like Daniel Jones on a quite friendly veteran deal as his back-up, who, just like Darnold, want to revive his career under a great offensive HC.

Two years 50m is too much in my opinion, the Vikings only have 3 picks for 2025, their first round and two 5th. The first round has to go to the best DT available and the rest of the team will have to be filled with free agents. I would prefer to give 10m to Daniel jones and use the other 15m in a veteran Safety/Cornerback plus a RB or LB.

2-years, $50m is in line with what Geno Smith earns and would almost be bottom of the league in annual QB salary if you disregard the rookies, so it would already be a very generous discount by Darnold imo. That's why I think getting something worked out isn't likely as he'll want (a lot) more than that.

Didn't know about your picks situation, that's not ideal and rules out most of the top rookie RBs. Agree that the first round pick should be defense. Wouldn't spend $10m on Jones to be (hopefully) backup for the entire year but also don't know if it's realistic that he'd accept less than that.

I don't think that it's too much out of principle, I think that it's too much for the Vikings. It takes too much money away from other key positions.

Missed one of my fantasy leagues playoffs to josh Allen's 6 tds after starting 0 4

Hoodie to the Tarheels.
It's a strange one. Such an old age to start your career in college and pretty close to the wins record in the NFL.

There must be a major incentive for his sons.

Jozy Altidore has become a limited partner of the Bills ownership group - how random is that.

T-Mac and Vince Carter amongst the others, 10 in total.

Looking at the 5-8 Bengals chances to make the playoffs and we could have a juicy Week 18 scenario on our hands if some results go our way.

CIN: needs to win out at Titans, vs Browns, vs Broncos, at Steelers --> Very hard but the hardest one of them all might be Week 18 at Pittsburgh.
DEN: needs to lose 3 more games vs Colts, at Chargers, at Bengals and vs Chiefs.
MIA: needs to lose 2 more games at Texans, vs Niners, at Browns and at Jets --> I think they can easily lose 2 out of their next 3 games and even the in-division game at MetLife.
IND: needs to lose 2 more games at Broncos, vs Titans, at Giants and vs Jags.

Let's say Denver beats the Colts this weekend but then loses at Chargers and at Bengals. The Colts only need to lose one more but I could see them winning vs Titans and at Giants. That leaves a Week 18 in which the Bengals need to go win in Pittsburgh while the Broncos need to lose at home versus the Chiefs - who I think will already be playing their backups by then since they might already have their bye secured, but I think they'd loooove to keep Denver out of the playoffs if they can. Meanwhile the Colts have a never-easy matchup against the Jags, so it'll be drama across all fronts if this unfolds.

Unlikely but I'd sign up for it. Give me Burrow vs Allen in the WC round any time over Tua and the Dolphins getting blown out in freezing temperatures or the Colts mediocre football. Could also live with Denver but don't think they'd be a match for the Bills (or whichever team gets the #2 seed in the end).

Pretty impressive to be in an argument with Brett Favre and you're the arsehole.

Regular Season Week 15 New
No idea how we don’t have an interception there. Bad set of downs afterwards and lucky with the bounce on the punt

Offence doesn’t look great, one explosive play to Kittle aside.

Can’t see their offence being this anaemic all game. Took 18 minutes to get a first down. We really need to capitalise. That should have been a flag on third down though

It’s going to be another “4th quarter lead” lost, although today is really going to be how we handle going behind right as the quarter starts. Annoyingly not for the first time tonight the interception was there and we messed it up.

Deebo needs to give his head a wobble

I don’t understand taking that deep shot when there’s the wide open check downs in field goal range.

The main take away tonight is that while they were talking about Trent Williams they showed a guy on the screen who wasn’t Trent Williams

NFC playoffs first round is going to be so difficult to call this time. Eagles, Seahawks, Bucs, Vikings, Packers and Commanders/Rams is ridiculous

With the way things are going in San Fran. Would it make sense for the Vikings and 49ers to trade QBs?

Purdy + a 3rd pick for Darnold(after a sign trade; 3 years 105m).

Rather strange how all of the Niners locker room went in hard on the linebacker who refused to play. Feel like they took the frustration from the loss out on him.

I think the answer is pretty simple, they move away from Darnold. It's a really similar situation to the one we were in last season, pay the incumbent QB a huge deal and compromise on the rest of the roster or move off of that and spread the money through the rest of the team.

Short of him leading the Vikings to a Superbowl win I can't see any scenario in which Kwesi and KOC abandon the plan they set in motion the minute Kirk upped sticks for Atlanta. The fact that Daniel Jones is now in the building makes it a bit easier, he can be the bridge/back up guy next year.

Personally I think the only way in which Darnold is a Viking next year is if he accepts a crazy cheap deal. He needs to choose his next step carefully though, go somewhere like the Raiders and it could be like the Jets and Panthers all over again. Best case scenario for him would be Stafford retiring and getting to work under McVay and that offence.

I agree the answer is extremely simple, I just wanted other people's opinion. The NFL is fairly simple, unless you have a genuinely great QB, someone that elevates everyone around him you shouldn't pay your QB, not even a bridge contract, these QBs do not win the Superbowl because they are not good enough to compensate for the funds that do not go to other positions. And people seem to totally overlook the fact that the Vikings record is heavily based on how the defense played and how good the skill positions are on offense. If you pay Darnold, you gamble on the idea that he can lead the team to the same record with a bottom half defense, that's a recipe for first round exits.

Edit: I should mention that there is one thing that the Vikings can do and could work for everyone in the short term. It's giving him 3 years for 35m per year with two void years. If I'm not mistaken that could create a situation where his cap hit could easily be under 20m if you include signing bonuses.

I think they are right to be pissed. If you don’t want to play, let someone else suit up instead.

What? How is that strange?

He dressed up knowing he was gonna let all of his teammates down. He literally quit on his own team. I'd never want to play another game with that guy.

Sunday’s late window might be the best one I’ve ever seen.

I understand players being pissed but I found every one of them going out after the guy publicly a bit strange. It became a far bigger news than the team actually getting embarrassed again
