NFL 2024 | Divisional Round

If I'm in the Vikings front office I'm definitely letting Darnold test the market, and probably moving on to JJ and DJ, possibly find another scrap heap guy for further competition and/or draft a developmental project like Daniels/Ewers/Gabriel/Howard/Leonard in the 4th rd. Then spread that 35-45m cap hit that would be on Darnold in loading up for a 2-3 year run.

I'll be shocked if they do anything different to this.

I think we have around $60m-$70m in cap space for next year, need to both the defensive line and offensive line beefed up.

I think it's a no brainer really, they didn't use a 3rd/4th round pick on JJ, they took him 10th overall in the draft. If he is fit then he has to play next season.

I was pretty confident we'd be moving away from Darnold regardless so i was bitterly disappointed we lost. Probably the manner of the defeat more than the defeat itself. Was just embarrassing and not representative at all of how we've played for the majority of the season.

Wasn't under any illusions that we'd progress any further so maybe the silver lining is a slightly better draft pick.

I was worried about Darnold's potential extension and didn't believe in a Superbowl run this year. The team played very well during a transition season but some of the flaws were huge, the DLine can't push the pocket due to a lack of size, the DBs can't play man, the middle of the field is constantly open, the running game is inconsistent and Darnold has two big flaws, he focuses too much on his WR1 and he focuses too much on long throws.

People will blame the O-Line but most of the sacks he took were after 4 seconds and he has topped the league in time allowed in the pocket. His patience is good but sometimes it's too much and he fails to just take what the defense gives him.

Agree. It would have taken a trip to the Superbowl by Darnold for them not to move on to JJ soon. The franchise tag for QB's is astronomical and I doubt Darnold want's a short term contract.

Alto just hates Brady

I think Brady has improved greatly as the season has progressed - which was probably to be expected.

Agreed. Week 1 and 2 were ropey, but he got better. I like him quite a bit now.

The commercials advertising what game he was going to be on the broadcast team for next were a bit much though, but that probably wasn't his call.

And Brady would get that information about the Lions' prep being part of the broadcasting team? I thought he was already banned from certain activities given his minority stake. But would make sense then, yeah.
The broadcast teams view practice session segments live & interview quite a few coaches & players from each team during the days leading up to the game.

Don't know about restricting Brady from certain activities, proper move by the NFL if so.

The Vikings were dreadful. But strangely it was quite well predicted. The 14 wins was definitely flattering. They’ve had a good season overall though to what was probably expected. Darnold keeps the ball for an eternity, he was a sitting duck.

The Rams looked good. It’ll be a much tougher match-up against the Eagles though.

I got the Bucs game and the Texans games wrong.

I’d expect the Chiefs and Lions to get through.

The bills / ravens game is next to impossible to call, I’d fancy ravens but with the Bills at home, who knows.

Rams eagles isn’t an easy game to call either. Want the Rams but I feel the Eagles match up well with them.

Hopefully overall should be a few more exciting games than wildcard week which overall was rather disappointing.

It wasn't flattering, the Vikings had the 7th best point differential in the league, the record was deserved. The issue is matchups, the Vikings weaknesses didn't match with certain teams like the Rams, Lions and Eagles.

All games are real interesting but Bills - Ravens is the highlight for me. A shame that it's the late kickoff on Sunday, gonna be hard to stay up for that one.

It definitely was flattering, they had the 9th best point differential in the league, directly behind 4 teams with 10-7 or 11-6 records, so 2 or 3 wins less would have seemed fair. But if you play that game don't look at KC, 11th best differential, 15-2 record.

Okay, which 2 or 3 games should they have fairly lost?

Don’t think Texans at Arrowhead will be interesting. Maybe it’ll be close because the Chiefs love their uninspiring one-possession wins, but the outcome of that game is never in doubt.

They did manage to win there in 2019, but with a healthy KC and it being a playoff game hard to see them repeating it.

I also have a sneaky feeling the Bills/Ravens game will end up not that close in the end. Ravens flattened Bills earlier in the season and that was before their defense clicked after the bye week.

Out of curiosity which two teams did you miss: I’m guessing Cardinals and…?

Regardless, I get the discussion is about win numbers rather than seed but in a “perfect” world the team with the 9th best points differential landing a five seed spot makes perfect sense, so by that very random metric it’s hard to say it wasn’t “deserved” (I don’t recall much controversy over pro Vikings decisions).

It's not really random if we try to find fault with a record and like goal differences in Football it's a solid metric to rank teams actual strength over the course of a season. Now the 2022 Vikings win record was flattering, the team was inconsistent(outside of the defense who consistently tragic) and had a bad point differential.

Yeah I think random was the wrong word. I should probably have said “particular” or something like that.

NFC Championship kicks off 8pm UK time.

United kick off 7pm on that Sunday.

How's your luck

They just trolling him or...?

EDIT: Ah OK, this is likely to be comp pick related.

As far as I know, you can't get comp picks for someone that didn't make a gameday roster.

Fair play to TNT. Managed to invent a new time slot making things even more inconvenient for travelling fans to London.

For the Ravens?

Aye. No idea if he ever made the field (i presume he did tbh) but he definitely made the gameday roster on at least 1 occasion because his suspension was for refusing to come on against Philly.

Jerry Never change

The wonderful thing about Jerry is, that he’s not completely clueless. So he gets just enough stuff right, to come somewhat close to success, but not enough to actually get there. This makes everything even better. Unlike the Jets or Browns, the Cowboys manage to get close enough to create hope among the fans that can be crushed.
So I’m with you. Jerry should never change.

Seems like there will be a lot of snow in the Eagles Rams game tomorrow, kind of annoying because extreme weather creates more of a lottery situation in games.

It would be the most Lions thing ever, if they lost to Washington. It would be so funny after this season. Please make it happen.

I think it's quite likely we get a B2 Stealth Bomber flyover for the National Anthem. Which would obviously be cool.
