He's not wrong about I still feel like I can put up big numbers part, that's what I was referring to. He averaged 6.5-86-0.67 in his 6 full games last season.

It's just that no team can trust him to be sane enough to stay on the field for an entire season. There's still nothing wrong with his ability to actually play football itself.

Based on what? Considering what we know about cte, it is very likely that he’s having it and the way he acts fits very well into the picture. Especially his complete lack of impulse control.

Any amount of immoral and unethical behaviour has risk of being ignored, but money talks - and if it turns out that his nonsense spread to finances, especially if to the detriment of other owners, he will soon be feeling quite uncomfortable I think.
 
Is that players who’ve played for the team
With an arrest record since 2000? Or players who have been arrested whilst on the team since 2000? If it’s the former that’s not surprising as I can imagine some players having arrest records from their youth. If it’s the latter though, even for the NFL that would surprise me.

Gotta be the latter surely? That's like 1 or 2 a season basically, considering the 53 man rosters this actually doesn't surprise me at all to be honest. I'm not shocked my Raiders aren't higher!

I'm not shocked. Young, mostly black men, with wealth and the trappings that come with that. They are guaranteed targets in America from all sides... police, criminals, idiots wanting to prove that they're hard. That goes before the CTE issues that definitely affect the players. In some ways it surprises me its not higher.

As a Dolphins fan, I was expecting him to be traded when Hill came in as it felt like his time in Miami was up (both production wise and with injury issues). Personally I would of preferred him be traded out of the conference, but still feel we got a pretty good deal for him.

It is shocking, but not surprising for some of the reasons @backofthenet mentioned here.

Consider also that a lot of these players come from low-income backgrounds anyway, and spend their formative years being pushed to prioritise football over education. They end up at colleges they would never normally get in to based purely on their athletic ability, and the school will do everything possible (a lot of which will be unethical) to make sure they scrape the grades they need to stay on the programme.

And I get the points here, but that’s why I said it’s absolutely not surprising if we are talking about arrests at any time of players who played for the franchise since 2000. Because of these reasons.

But, perhaps it’s just me and OK if so, but we would be talking here about 2 players a year being arrested on an NFL team. And even with all their background, these are still people who made it through to college and through the due diligence process to get into the NFL. For me, that’s a surprisingly high stat - and no doubt has little in some cases to do with the player themselves other than the colour of their skin.

Is it just me or is this algebra not adding up well for the Saints? They give up a future 1st and 2nd + ‘22 3rd for a mid 1st that is still behind a team with some of the same needs in addition to moving back another 1st behind the same team.

I think they believe they are going to be a playoff team, and tbh, the NFC is so bad that they might be right. Get an extra first in the middle of a draft you like (?) and punt on next years draft where you will probably be picking in the 20s anyway. I guess that's the logic to it, although not sure why they needed to give up a 2nd round pick to do that?

Yeah, it’s a win now move. I guess I get that. One common sentiment I’ve seen is it‘s in preparation for Nola to package both to jump up for a QB but I’d take Jameis over any of those guys right now.

One friendly redditor ran it through the trade calculator and the difference was an early 2nd, which is not insignificant. But if you have a solid team maybe you go for it.

Is Jameis on track to start game one? Will he participate in any meaningful way in the preseason / training camp?

Yes, it appears so. That injury was week 8 unlike some other major ones right at the end of the season.
The 2015 No. 1 overall pick will head into his second season as New Orleans’ QB1 and is reportedly slated to be ready for training camp, despite a midseason ACL tear in 2021.

I think it's OK in terms of overall trade value in a certain scenario. If it's a move that makes them a playoff team, they essentially would turn that #18 pick in to one in the mid 20s. It's a classic 'win-now' type move.

The major problem is the Saints don't have a QB - I'm guessing this move up is possibly for Malik Willis (although we've seen the Saints go all in before on a project edge rusher with major upside before in Davenport too, so maybe there's a defensive prospect they really like) who really won't put them in 'win-now' mode.
 
It's a great draft to have two first. Due to covid many top talents stayed in college last year, it's probably best to get talented prospects this year instead of hoping next season.
 
I'm more worried about how good Dennis Allen will be as a HC compared to Payton than I am about Jameis being the QB. The Saints are good enough to compete so it makes sense to already add two talents this year on cheap contracts compared to spreading it out over two years. Just have to nail the draft picks now. You don't see that many trades in the first round if it's not for a QB if I'm not mistaken but each QB selected would be a downgrade on Winston next season so I think they are just keeping their options open and would be happy with the picks if they kept them. You could add top talent at both ends of the field in those slots.
 
The Cowboys are bringing in WR draftees for visits. Jerry will probably be over the moon if the Arkansas boy drops.

No chance that the Eagles would let that happen.

They would happily waste every pick they have on players they think Cowboys would want
