I was watching the top 100 plays of last season during my lunch break just now (because I am sad and that's what I do), and I can't really understand why #15 was considered a catch. You have to maintain control throughout the process when going to the ground, yet when you are grasping the ball off of the defender, you're at the mercy of his movement to keep control over it. I don't consider that to be "controlling the ball when going to the ground". Can understand it if you hold the ball pressed against your own helmet, like David Tyree did and Antonio Brown a few years ago, but off of a defender, that shouldn't stand imo.

What about Panthers for Baker? Darnold not exactly pulling up trees there, so if they could get him on the cheap that might be an option?

Texans would seem logical given their QB situation. Baker grew up & went to HS just two hours up the road in Austin.

Even with Mayfield (or, better said, especially with Mayfield), the Texans won't be competitive next season, and he's a free agent in 2023 who would demand a semi-heavy QB contract. Don't see why they would be interested, especially since David Mills showed flashes of potential last leason.

They should draft a rookie QB in the first round, wait to see what they have in Mills, and perhaps bring in an experienced QB on a cheap contract to groom one or both of them.

Of course they won't be competitive. I just suggested it would be an attractive destination for Mayfield given that he's from the area and the Texans don't have a solid QB situation at the moment. Mills isn't likely to be starting there long term given his lack of experience (he only played in 27 post HS games ever..including college and pros). There are of course other options the Texans should be looking at. I can see them taking Thibbodeaux at 3 and then going after Pickett at 13.

They might as well at least see what they have in Mills who generally played pretty well last season in less-than-ideal circumstances. You know already what you're getting with Baker and it ain't a franchise QB.

Mills was very highly touted coming out of HS and looked better than some of the other rookie QBs at times.

They’ll run it back with him, fill up the many holes in the roster this draft, and if he slips hope for Young/Stroud/Rattler next year.

Somebody will fall in love with his remarkable arm talent and think they can fix the rest, similar to Malik who I bet won’t last past #2 whether or not it’s to Detroit. Spencer redeeming himself is my early hot take (the Malik one isn’t so spicy anymore).

Malik going one or two. Really?

His odds on going at #2 have steadily been increasing. Even if Detroit doesn’t fancy him, teams like Carolina are very thirsty for a QB and could move to ensure they get him a la Trey Lance.

If he goes that hight it would be due to several teams having "fear of missing out on the next Lamar" syndrome. Good QB of course, but still very raw and untested against top opposition.

Not aware about anything like that. Might read up on it later today, cheers.

For decades Liberty has been a power-broker on the right of American politics and a bulwark of social conservatism but a succession of scandals now threatens a university that requires that students follow The Liberty Way, a student honor code that prohibits sexual relations outside of “a biblically-ordained marriage between a natural-born man and a natural-born woman”.

Sounds like a nice place

Yikes :(

That whole article is a pretty disgusting read.

Not sure about the morality of NFL teams but surely Wilis has had to answer questions about those rape and assault allegations during interviews? There are accusations against a LU football player who remained on the team afterwards so it even could be him the accusations were against.

Nice throw but I will never pull for a player who went to Liberty University (aka the rape enablers).

Not being funny but, isn't this a problem basically all colleges have, not exclusively/in particular Liberty? You hear stories like this all the time from campuses across the whole country.

Before they took it down, I read their honor code (this was 5 or 6 years ago) and they have ridiculous rules like a male student and female student can't be alone together. So if a female student is first to enter a classroom and the next student is a male, he must wait until another student arrives before entering so he is not alone with a woman. It's batshit crazy. They also teach young earth creationism as science.

Read @Rado_N ’s Guardian article a few posts back.

I have - at the base of it the story is one that's been told countless times before across dozens of other schools - marginalising the victim's account/feelings, blaming them for the situation arising and protecting their prized assets if it happens to be a notable athlete involved.

The 'Liberty Way' stuff is weird and makes it seem more satanic in a way, but it's the same problem that's rife across US colleges, not just one.

For me it’s the blatant disingenuousness in conflict with their holier than thou thumping that is the most galling.

But you are correct, the dismissive attitude is pervasive across the board at the college / university level.

Liberty was founded by Jerry Falwell - a right wing televangist nutter. That should tell you all you need to know about the University.

It has grown substantially over the years, so one can't fault Willis for going there for football reasons.

Back on topic, with the moves the Broncos made, is the AFC West the best division top to bottom going into the season? Should be some great inter-divisional games this year.
It might be the best division on paper since they moved to current divisional format (20ish years). It looks like it’ll be what we thought the NFC West was last year when FiveThirtyEight were running the numbers on if it was the best division ever.

The AFC North is not a walk in the park either.

I wonder what odds you’d get on the whole division making the playoffs, I believe it’s technically possible now right?
