Its just not the same, sorry. Brady statistically has been excellent. Manning, statistically, was awful in that season. And in that super bowl. Whilst Brady may have had great stats because of a great supporting cast, that’s very different to having bad stats being covered by a great supporting cast. But I really don’t want to get into a Brady / Manning debate because we will never agree.

To your point about Manning lifting the whole team just because of his presence - that I absolutely agree with and isn’t a factor which should be ignored. What I would say though, is if we saw those stat lines for any other SB winning QBs, you would quite happily say they had nothing to do with winning.

Jordan was different. He did things people had never seen before, popularized a sport globally and was the face of the Dream Team that brought the Olympic gold back to the US. There is nothing revolutionary or exciting about Brady’s play per se. He’s just super consistent and efficient when it counts.

Jordan also had the Gatorade & Nike ads, those were revolutionary for the times.

If you were a sports fan in the US in the early 2000’s, you had to suffer through people that had never lived within a 1000 miles of Boston suddenly becoming huge New England fans. It only got worse from there once the Red Sox broke the curse, and every body in sight was suddenly rocking a Boston baseball cap (to be fair the classic simple blue one is as iconic as they come but still feck those guys).

But from the start he got his breakthrough on a technicality no knew about with the tuck rule. Then there was the Patriots video taping scandal that was buried which made deflategate look like small potatoes.

Seriously though, feck those guys in their Red Sox ball caps. Probably wearing pastel colored polos with the collars popped talking about which dad’s country club had the best fairways and swimming pool scene. Those are the Tom Brady fans we’ve had to live with the past two decades.

Think it's pretty fair to say they won despite Manning, not because Manning, that year. Brock being even worse doesn't really change that.

I wasn’t trying to compare them, just saying they each have (had) a wider impact than just their stat lines, impossible as that is to pin down.
 
The first pass after Josh Norman came in was really bad by Rodgers. He had a chance to test a weak link and didn’t give his receiver a shot.
Also his last throw in 3rd and 11 was just a throw it into double coverage and hope situation. He should really be doing more in those scenarios given his talent

Yes but he had those ads because he captured the imagination with his play. But then again, Baker Mayfield has a lot of ads……

You’re clearly very emotional about this so there’s no point going any further. Manning was in fact a colossus in that Denver Super Bowl winning season. There you go.

Rodgers had first down available for short yards but kept going for the big one hence some of the sacks

You’re incapable of rational conversation, this is the second time you’ve thrown out comments about an emotion reaction and tried moving the goalposts when I’ve never suggested once that he was brilliant that year.

I’m perfectly calm, and the fact remains that suggesting Manning “only really has one ring” is stupid and that’s all I’ve said.

Brady has won an inordinate amount of playoff games playing like trash. Wins/rings is a silly way to anoint the best players period.
 
Hoping for Rams and Bills but moreso good games.

In general I don’t mind who wins it from here - Bucs the least just because they’re defending, not because i’m a psychopath like @altodevil.

Would be buzzing for the Bengals or Bills.

Oh, definitely, but we never had such an athletic media love-in onslaught before we had Jordan.

Plus basketball players are far more marketable aesthetically than football players - no helmets, the proximity of cameras courtside, personal individuality, etc.
 
I like witnessing history and greatness, if Brady wins back-to-back SB's at Tampa Bay then all you can do is hold your hands up and laugh at this point. Wouldn't really mind that.

I'd glady have the Rams because I like lots of their players, e.g. OBJ, Miller, Ramsey, ... Same goes for the Niners and Kittle, Bengals with Joey B and Chase, and I wouldn't mind Allen winning his first SB.

It's just for one reason or another that I can't really stand Mahomes and the Chiefs. Even if there's nothing objectively unlikeable about e.g. Kelce. So apart from the Chiefs I'm fine with whatever, but hoping for a Bengals v Niners/Rams SB now. Or Burrow v Brady would be cool as well.

Feck it I'm just gonna enjoy tonight and see how it goes.
 
I like the Bengals chances. If they can go into hostile territory as a wild card team and knock off the number one seed without Burrow throwing a single TD pass, then they should be able to go all the way. I'd love to see what Burrow can do against Allen and the #1 defense in the league.

Yeah that would be a concern. Although, if they can win despite 9 sacks then I think they can make some adjustments for Burrow (more running, short to medium range passes, bubble screens etc) against the Bills to mitigate their pass rush and reduce to sacks to something more manageable.

My preference order.

If Brady wins by playing really well against tough defenses and with 'only' Evans and Gronk it will be impressive. I'll give him that.

If he wins through incredible field position, special teams play, and above all luck. I'll continue to scream obscenities into the ether.
 
Rodgers is joining the Vikings after Cousins is traded to the Broncos. You can book it. :cool:

I’m hoping Rams win but I’m expecting Stafford to do something stupid that costs them the game.
 
Are people suggesting that the actual Broncos offensive coordinator wasn't an important member of the team?
