We already knew Fields could run in that range. And I don’t know what ‘can categorically make every throw’ really means: Zach’s QBR throwing into coverage was easily the best in the nation and even ahead of Burrow’s incredible accuracy the year before.

I guess that’s my way way of saying that he (not you Robin :angel:) sounds like a bit of shitposter. I would totally support trading up to draft Fields, mind...

Fully agree on Darnold.

Bengals may see value in moving down as well so #5 could be attainable.

Yep pre-season games have reduced to 3 & they can’t be more than 3. Apparently the only way they could get 17 regular season games was to reduce the number of pre-season games. They also can’t go more than 17 regular season games under the current CBA.
 
I don't know anything about American Football, rules wise but to me a 16 game regular season is ridiculously short.

Why has 1 extra game been met with such opposition?

Don't the NBA play like 80+? And baseball & ice hockey similar?

My local non-league team plays about 10 friendlies then 46 league games and various cup competitions, maybe the NFL are just lazy :) .

The physical demands of the different sports are not comparable.

The game is considerably more physical and damaging. And it takes months of conditioning in order to play those 16 games during the regular season and then add playoff games.

The physical toll is akin to regularly getting in car crashes. Some players are left physically and mentally debilitated for the rest of their lives, and the severe brain damage suffered over time is becoming more well documented. So adding a game for non-sport reasons but just so that the owners can make more money wasn’t well received.

Hardly comparable, the footballs & their respective impact on bodies & minds. A good movie to watch about the effects on football & the brain (& the coverup attempted by the NFL) is ‘Concussion.’ One severe incident of the negative impact American football has on the brain is found in the story of Mike Webster:

He got to a point mentally that he superglued his rotten teeth that had fallen out back into the sockets due to his financial situation & his mistrust of medical professionals.

Hockey is a good comparison to American football in terms of impact. Rugby has some similarities, but the violence in rugby is far more targeted & focused than American football.

The NBA would be way better with a 15 or 30 game season. Watching regular season NBA is pointless if you don't live in the right timezone, because the games don't really matter individually.

That's purely selfish from my own standpoint, the Brady reframing is legit and should be considered by all.
 
Interesting that the NCAA seems to be really struggling in the US Supreme Court. Always thought it was a horrible system for players in hugely profitable sports
 


Very poor return imo, looks like he wasn't held in high regards by the rest of the league.

Top of the draft is shaping up pretty nicely now.

Jags, Jets, Niners all 100% drafting a QB. Falcons should be trading down, Bengals going for Sewell (or reuniting Burrow en Chase). Then I'd guess Chase to the Dolphins, who knows what the Lions will do, and the Panthers don't need a QB anymore. Maybe the Broncos should try to get in front of the Lions and they almost certainly have their shot at Mac Jones and Trey Lance.
 
I’m not sure if he’s a big upgrade on Bridgewater, but maybe a change in team will work for him. Bridgewater surely gets traded, maybe NO or Denver?!
 
Cost more than Rosen, but probably a much better player

Denver needs to be making moves to secure Fields.

This is based on my extensive knowledge of draft prospects gained by reading hype pieces the last few weeks.

Unfortunately doesn't look like they have a shot at him if the Niners traded up for him because the top 3 order won't change anymore. Mac Jones' stock has been skyrocketing the last few weeks though so he might go at #3 but I can't imagine the Niners trading up that high (basically mortgaging their entire future) to draft someone like Jones.

Trey Lance reportedly has the highest or second highest ceiling of all QBs in this class though. Could be doing a lot worse than drafting him and developing him behind Lock but not ideal because it's definitely not a sure thing he'll become a (top quality) NFL starter.

Obviously I’ve no clue but I’ve seen plenty of articles based on the premise of Fields being on the board if they move up to 5 and potentially even beyond. Who knows.

I guess we’ll find out soon enough!
 
That’s fantastic news. The odds of Denver getting a QB in the first just shot up.

As for who that could be, like that tweet i posted a while ago it really does feel like it is Mac Jones or Trey Lance that SF traded up for. I don’t know why SF would bother putting out a smokescreen on that when there’s no danger of them being jumped, as the first two picks seem set in stone.
 
Interesting trade. Honestly though Darnold had no chance of succeeding in NY, almost a clean state for someone who did once have a lot of talent for a pretty decent price. And if he flops they still (for now) have Bridgewater. I think it’s a decent move by the Panthers.
 
God I hope the Falcons either take a QB or trade down. Then Miami would have the choice of two of Chase, Pitts or Smith (plus the extra first round pick). Hell if the Bengals would be kind enough to take Sewell then we would have the choice of all three.

To surpass which QB-needy team, only Detroit? Could be but the cost might be too high for the reward in that scenario.

Chase to the Dolphins would be ideal imo (bona fide WR1 rather than a contested catch receiver like Parker being your WR1). Bengals need to protect Burrow first and foremost and already drafted a budding superstar in Tee Higgins last year. Unfortunately I think they'd be stupid enough to draft Chase as an AJ Green replacement and reunite him with Burrow.

Whilst we have been desperate for a no1 WR, if I had the pick I might actually lean towards Pitts. The guy is a freak of nature and Pitts and Gesicki is the sort of TE pair that would make Belichick die of jealously. But Pitts could go anywhere from the 4th pick onwards, hard to say who takes him

I love both Chase and Smith, would be thrilled with either. There has also been rumblings that Miami's FO has loved Waddle for years
 
The one thing I don't get about this draft is Mac Jones. Sure a decent player, but top 10 pick? Maybe top 3? I don't see it personally. Then again I will never claim to be a draft guru

To remove all doubt. In my paranoia if Fields is still there and he gets to 7 or 8, the teams that didn’t have the ammo to move up to 3 are making calls - CHI/NE/WFT...

By some metrics he’s better than Tua; I don’t like to do ‘helmet scouting’ just based on the school they came from, but here it sort of normalizes for quality of competition and teammates. I can see why people think he could look like a Matt Ryan in Kyle’s offense.
