Reports on Twitter that Brees is retiring after this season. Might be his final game ever tonight.

Wouldn’t surprise me. He’s got a deal lined up to commentate on NBC when he’s done.

Well, he was born in Texas (white supremacists), went to college in Indiana (militias), and plays in Louisiana (the Klan), so he’ll have a strong base wherever he runs.

Wouldn’t have been surprised to see it given. Also not surprised to see it not given. One of them. Puts more pressure on Brees now.

Speaking of future NFL pundits, excited to listen to Greg Olsen when he finally steps into the booth after handing it up. Heard him do a game last year, and he’s great.

Still boggles my mind how neither A&M or Texas went for him in 97 after earning the Class 5A Offensive POTY and winning a state title in 96 a year removed from an ACL injury. Perhaps they were concerned he would get crocked at a higher level and didn't want to "waste" a scholarship. Brees would have been magnificent for either, especially a Texas side that was one year away from Mackovic getting sacked and with a supernova in the making, Ricky Williams. What might have been in 1998 with a 2,000-yard back and Brees progressing in his sophomore year. Probably never hear of Major Applewhite but I'd take 98-00 with Brees at the helm over Major (and Simms probably goes to Tennessee or elsewhere, someone would have paid for him).

Is Bree’s as good as he is now if he goes to Texas instead of Purdue, especially if he’s sharing the ball with Ricky? He got so many reps in that offense at Purdue.

As an aside, I think Ricky is a hall of famer if he hired a real agent and never discovered weed.

I think his height prolly hurt him more than anything. Did well at Purdue if I recall.

Would have only shared for a year in 98, unless he starts as a true frosh in 97 (they had James Brown and Richard Walton, so it's probable he at least plays some mop-up duty considering how shit the season went). The OC/QBC was Greg Davis from 98 to 2010, a good coach to learn from. Maybe not quite a Joe Tiller/Jim Chaney spread system but who knows. I think a player of Brees intelligence and accuracy becomes a top tier pro regardless. He likely ends up in the top 5/10 in 2001 versus early 2nd rd. That puts him somewhere like Cleveland #3 (going into third year with Couch), Cincinnati #4 (same with Akili/other shit), or maybe falls down to Chicago #8 or Seattle #9. Vick went #1 (Atlanta traded up), don't think Arizona #2 were giving up on Plummer quite yet, Chargers #5 had Flutie arriving, Patriots #6 had a healthy Bledsoe (and were high on a second year guy named Brady), and the 49ers #7 had Garcia who threw for 4200 yards in 2000.

Brees and Brady look every bit their age out there.

Yeah back then Flutie had just been a novelty act and Jeff Garcia wasn’t around yet, iirc.

That's a fair point although James Brown was about 6'0 at best, some said closer to 5'10, and he was Texas starting QB from 95-97 and most of 94 after Morenz was crocked. Brees is in that 5'10-6'0 range according to most.

A&M had stud transfer Brandon Stewart, 6'2, 220, who flopped under the hype (he fared alright at times but got benched twice for scrub Randy McCown, 6'1 at best). He left Tennessee after some lanky guy named Manning was anointed.

All told Brady and Brees are probably the two worst QBs in the divisional round

I think that’s completely being ignorant to what the defences are doing out there. Especially the Saints D which are in a constant pass coverage set up.

funny how things work out. If Henson had not been splitting his time playing minor league baseball and qb at Michigan we may never have had to have Brady in our lives.

Eh, fair enough. Brees is the worst QB in the divisonal round, and the packers are making the superb owl because Brady can't beat this Saints D

You really think at this stage Brady and Brees are below Mayfield? Goff?

They are obviously in decline but I think the vast majority of NFL teams, including some in these play offs, would take them over who they have. At least if purely thinking about for this year.
