You're only rushing 3 to try to help those defensive backs - what do you think is going to happen if you rush more? Sure, you might get the odd sack - but, you're more likely to leave them one on one and not a lot of help coming.

When we rush 3 they have all day to throw and eventually somebody will get open as they are now. We sent more last Sunday and got 5 sacks.

Somethings got to change.

It can work the opposite way also, giving more time for the QB to wait for someone to come over. You can often help your DB's by getting a better pass rush, shortening the time your DB's have to cover someone.

No doubt. There is only a finite amount of time you can expect anyone to cover anyone in the NFL - particularly once the play breaks down (and with the ever increasing trend of mobile quarterbacks)

But, the Pats have almost always been an adequate D rather than off the hook - Ravens/Broncos. And this season, while they haven't generated a crazy amount of pressure on the QB

The following teams have equal or less sacks than them -

Texans
Rams
Bengals
Lions
Niners
Jets
Chargers
Saints
Raiders
Colts
Cowboys
Browns

So they are mediocre rather than completely shit up front

You then take into account Bill deciding - Chandler Jones (brought a ton of pressure last season and had 10+ sacks) was dispensable in the off season and then Jamie Collins (for a whole host of reasons) with the final nail in the coffin being, Malcolm Butler not playing as well at the back.

I just think, the Bill always looks at his D to simply not lose them a game (bend but don't break).

I'll be disappointed if we don't get to witness a Raiders Patriots championship game ... it would be such a great game.
I said it at the start, so I guess I'll stick with it and hope I look smart: the Raiders are a year away from a deep push into the playoffs...

I'd be interested to know the skew of timing of our sacks. I have a hunch you'll find we were a lot better earlier in the season than more recently.

Gronk to have back surgery. No timeframe on his return :(

Injuries fecked us over last year & it looks like it will happen again. Gronk would have insane numbers if he stayed healthy more than he does. Every season he gets injured & every year it's when the post-season is around the corner. One year he stayed healthy we went all the way & won the SB.

Wouldn't shock me if Bill trades him next year.

If it makes you feel any better you're playing LA this week.

It's not this week that worries me. It's the post-season where we'll need him most & where he'll be a massive loss.

For this weekend, I'd even rest Brady tbh.

Hopefully we can keep a bye week for the playoffs and gives Gronk over a month to recover. Doesn't look promising. But we must get a bye. The AFC teams who will make the playoffs (most likely Phins Broncos or Chiefs) in the WC spots are all incredibly tough games.

Edelman also missed practice. And Bennet is still having some issues with niggling injuries. Will be interesting how we fiddle our offence without our best weapons.

You've gotta come to Denver in a few weeks as well, I won't miss Gronk that's for sure.

That'll be an interesting game.

Also how does home / away work when matching divisional winners? It must be the third (?) year back to back we have gone to Mile High?

Post season you mean? Depends on overall conference position I think.

Just looked at our schedule. Bloody heck.

Ravens
@ Broncos
Jets
@ Dolphins

All tough games when you consider we tend to make a meal of the Jets games.

So we are only playing you this year and only played you last year as we won East and you won the West. Wondering therefore why back to back we are going to Mile High?

Just did some research. Apparently there is no rule or cycle to determine home or away for the two match ups against the team who finished in the corresponding spot in the 2 non-rotation divisions.

Home or away for the two other conference ties is based on if you were home or away 3 or 4 years ago, makes sense.

Seems odd on the former though. But in case of Patriots explains why we were home to Texans and away to you.

Jeez this Vikings o line is unbelievably shit. Teddy and Peterson probably couldn't do much if they were out there either.

Just realised I will miss the NYG v cowboys game next week, being on nights has the usual perk of being able to watch the late games, but having a quality day training at 8 on that Monday ,fecked it right up.

Dem Cowboys going to go all the way this year.

Thursday night games need to die.

I think that's our Super Bowl dream close to over for this season. If Gronk miraculously plays in the playoffs it will only be as a decoy like he did in the 2nd Super Bowl vs Giants. The D isn't going to win us shit and Edelman isn't the same players. The silver lining is there aren't that many great teams around.

Brady will have to be majestic for us to win the big one.

Refs missed a big hands to the face on Bradford as the Vikings went for 2 to tie the game last night. No mention of it anywhere?

If it was Seattle...

yeah, but long before Bradford got smacked in the head, Clemmings (no. 68) got away with a false start.

Gronk isn't coming back this year.

But the important bit is in bold. Who in the AFC is going to beat them?

Kansas City - Alex Smith? Zero faith in him
Raiders - still a very young team - and their D is horrendous
Broncos - D is elite, but their O is so bad, we can't even call it mediocre.

Pats will get the No.1 seed, so I don't think Brady has to play out of his mind to get back into the SB...Guys like Bennett will pick up a lot of the slack. Winning the SB on the other hand would be different. I hate Brady but if the Pats win a SB without Gronk - that would end the debate for me and Brady would truly be the GOAT.
