Good guys:lol: I really hope you're joking. The Broncos are probably the dirtiest team in all of sports, let alone the NFL.

It's absolutely baffling how the Broncos can get away with blatantly hitting Cam Newton helmet-to-helmet three times in the game(plus one hand slap to helmet) with only one of them getting penalised - and that didn't even result in a real penalty. So much for the NFL's focus on the players' safety. Not to mention the low tackle on Benjamin's recently reconstructed knee, which could be defended as being a fair tackle, but IMO seemed very dubious.

And they can also brag about having the most unsympathetic player in the league in Aqib Talib as one of their proclaimed leaders on defence.
I don't deny that he's a brilliant cornerback, here are a few of his recent actions:

It honestly surprises me that he hasn't received longer suspensions for these things.

They used to have a bad reputation for borderline chopblocks on defensive linemen, put a few out with injury. I expect we will see the NFL level some fines for some of the hits last night.

Yep. But to be fair that was under completely different management and player personnel, so you can't really blame the current Broncos for that.

But yes, I think there has to be some sort of retrospective action, especially given the recent focus on the danger of helmet hits/concussions. Although I think the aftermath would have been much different if Newton actually had a concussions. Incredible that he escaped game without one.

I meant purely in terms of who I prefer as a team to be honest, I see your point.

The first one (Ware?) could have been up for debate but that hit by Marshall was dirty.

Looks like the concussion protocol was doing nothing too - http://deadspin.com/cam-newton-doesnt-remember-the-end-of-the-football-game-1786418801

Those things are ridiculous. You don't need a beer and a soft drink and a hot dog. You can park free and walk.

Yeah you don't even need refreshments at all, but lets face it most people who go will at least buy one refreshment. Parking for free might be available in some locations, especially if you know someone who lives near the stadium. I know in Buffalo attempting to just part on the street or in some random businesses parking lot on game day likely will get you at least ticketed and possibly towed away (with the fines and charges increased on game day). This assumes you want to park reasonable close (within a mile or two of the stadium) if you are up for walking 3 or more miles you likely would be able to find some free spots, the further you are willing to walk the less likely you would find parking problems. Some cities you could take mass transit to the stadium instead of driving.

To me just tailgate before and after the game and forget about buying food inside the stadium, though you still have to add the cost of the food you bring to eat to the cost, but it is cheaper. In Buffalo you can find a number of street meat vendors in the surrounding area on game day, with reasonable prices. So it is very easy to keep the refreshment bill down on game day if you just do not eat in the stadium.

I wonder if they did some sort of look at sales of drinks and food to figure that on average a person at the game will consume X amount inside the stadium or if they just picked the one beer, one soda, one hot dog at random?

I guess I'm a bit disappointed that a team which played with that kind of intent won. I also think some of the refereeing calls were a bit unfavourable yesterday for the Panthers although I think that's just the luck of the draw with contentious incidents.

I have always felt Cam doesn't get the protection he deserves just because of his style and size and I really think that's wrong. By all means when he runs he should be hit like a running back. When he blocks on option plays the DL of the opposition should give him hell. But when he is being a quarterback in the pocket or scrambling he deserves the same protection as everyone else. To be honest I also felt this from all the games I watched last year too. He doesn't help himself though with the dabs etc. - of course the D will lay it on him if he acts like that.

Anyway, is what it is. I'm not a big Cam fan anyway, I hate his god damned dancing. But he still gets treated unfairly and most importantly he's on my fantasy team ( ) so I'll be damned if he's out!

One side note was I was surprised by:

1) How good Denvers O-line looked especially in the I with the FB.
2) It was interesting that Malik Jackson's loss might actually be significant. The analysis by the commentator was very good, essentially saying QBs had to drop back deep on snaps due to push from centre which put them in perfect cut in range for Miller/Ware. It was noticeable for the most part that Miller and Ware were nullified because they were too deep off the edge and so behind Cam as Cam wasn't dropping as far.
3) Denver's secondary wasn't quite as dominant as last year.
4) Siemien looks brilliant.

All early days of course!

Another thing I would add is, consider the spectacle you're seeing.

I was fortunate to be in NYC in the Giants Jets game last year that was fecking brilliant and went to overtime. Managed to get tickets.

I believe as an event to attend, it is simply another dimension to attending a premier league match here in the UK which is probably the only comparison in terms of sports leagues in the world.

There's much more going on. The event is longer. The experience is significantly better (not necessarily from entertainment from the sport as its amazing to watch United too, but from an overall experience perspective due to screens, engagement with fans, the apps you can use etc.).

Also unless I'm mistaken (and I could well be), aren't most NFL games with the exception of the NFL network game and the ESPN games free to watch? (I.e you don't pay subscriptions like you do for sky sports and BT sport).

Sadly like all "desirable" things for use of a better word, they are priced by demand and supply and unfortunately it means some people are priced out.

Yeah any games on an over the air broadcaster can be watched for free (just need a TV and a digital antenna). Of course there are always those illegal streaming sights for other games, but nobody on the Café would ever think of breaking the law in such a way.

Spot on, brilliant post.

So I'm not the only one, chocked by the helmet hit and borderline late tackles. They also seem happy to take chances with opponents knees.

Surely you can't target the head of a running back either?

Of course not - not sure I even said that  what I mean is if he's going to run and not slide then tackling him properly but legally will happen and rightly so. Any illegal hit will still be an illegal hit. And when he's not running he deserves the same protection as any other QB in the league. Do you think Brady, Brees or Bradford for example only get 1 penalty called in their favour for all those hits? No chance! I know that a subconscious bias can creep in because it's Cam and he's big but then a conscious effort should be made to stop it. And I done just think the Broncos will be the only beneficiary of it this season, just that in the opener it was just so obvious it exists.

I don't think the Broncos are dirty or much dirtier than other teams. Except Talib. These are competitive players trying to win. And if the referee lets you get those hits in without flagging eventually it'll escalate. But every team goes into a game saying they wanna hit the QB. It's the referees job to keep it in check. And in my view they failed. And for me it's the helmet hits that concerned me most.

Gronk, Cooper, Solder all out against cardinals. Along with Brady of course.

I frankly can't see how we win tomorrow night. We just gotta try go 0.500 for Brady's return.

That's my point though, it shouldn't be "Brady, Brees or Bradford", those hits should be called on anyone, QB or not.

If you had Cardinals and Seahawks defense, who would you play?

Seattle hosts Miami, Arizona hosts New England missing it's QB, it's best receiver, it's starting left tackle.

Arizona's defense may be the better choice if one was fortunate to have drafted both. But Miami isn't exactly a dominant offense IMO. Do you trust Garoppolo or Tannehill?

I do have both and I dont know which is the better option. Tannehill obviously. Better receivers - Landry, Parker and Stills.

Fantasy wise.

I would say Seattle because of the special team and the fact that you never know with the Patriots, Bennett and Edelman could have the game of their lives.

Erm. Okay sold there. But Alson Jeffrey away at Houston or Randall Cobb away at Jacksonville? @MrMarcello

Cannot wait! Sunday evenings/nights are sorted for the next 17 weeks

Looking forward to the Dawn of the Dak. Romo's return will likely determine playoffs or not but in Dak I see a potential successor/solid backup.

With the running game, the playmakers in the receiving department, and that massive O-line, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dak perform like RGIII in his rookie year. They'll rely heavily on the running game (like WAS 2012) and scale down the offense to not put Dak in difficult decision-making situations (ala WAS 2012).

Can the defense perform decent enough to make games winnable is the bigger question.

Cowboys' record without Romo is horrific over the last 3 years

Kinda disappointed the Texans game isn't the main televised game on SS2, but RedZone will probably be better anyway.
