Why change a great team. Every time you bring in a new player it takes them time to settle in. It upsets the applecart. Let them get on with it and settle as a team. You look at the teams that are successful and you will see that the lineup is stable. Basically the same players most of the time. They get used to each other, the system and build up team work which is allways going to beat individual brilliance. Come on you reds! ;)

Blanc is going to be off mate, and I can't see SAF having Veron warming the bench!

Blanc, Fortune, May, Irwin, Yorke, and possibly Johnsen (I hope not) are going to be off IMO.

That means we need to buy at least on CB (a very very good one), a full back, as we are loosing Irwin - and we need the cover, and obviously the Forward to replace Yorke (not a spectacular expensive one, but a good seasoned pro like PDC)

I wouldn't say no to a big name forward though if we've got money left after buying the new defenders.

Cover for Giggs and Beckham should be brought from our young lads.

Blanc could be talked around by SAF IMO.
I agree SAF will want to play Veron but I just think Schoalesy is making a better contribution at the moment. Veron is still settling in and will only get better as he settles.

what do you know about uniteds young strikers...webber, Nardielo and Davis???
can you shed some light? are they good???

As I live in Spain, I never get to see the reserves or youth teams playing, and rely for most of what I know on Red Pat's reports on those games. Look down the list on the United forum (change it to show all topics - they go back to October, about 88 pages of them  ) for Red Pat's reports - he does them almost every week, so they are easy to find.

There are plenty of threads about the young lads dotted all over the place too.

Better still, get out of bed Red Pat and give us the run down! ;)

Here is the first one I found

Just keep looking down the list, there is one about every 3 or 4 pages! :)

CB. Johnson

I think you've got it right there, we'll have a lot of players leaving which will lower the wage bill greatly, but not all will require bought in replacements. I think Chadwick and Djordic should step up as stand-ins for Giggs - and maybe even Fletcher in the Worthington Cup. While I'd love for us to promote a youngster to replace Yorke, our current one's are not of the required standard - none of them are likely to make it here. I'd be very surprised if we bought a £20m+ striker this summer, although if we did I'd like it to be Tristan. Maybe though he'll make a move for someone like Phillips or Vassell.

We certainly do need defenders, probably 3 of them since I think Johnsen won't be staying (very rare for us to let someone get so close to their contract running out and then re-sign them). Alex has said we need two centre-halves, and we all know he tried to find a replacement for Silvestre last season, and now Irwin has gone, and Mickey has still made lots of stupid individual mistakes, I'd expect him to get a full back who can at least play left-back, and even better, one who can play both sides. I think our CB's will be Hofland and Ayala since we've been most strongly linked to them (we all know Hofland is almost a certainty, while we made a bid for Ayala last summer that is still on the table). As for the full back, finger's crossed its not Reizeger since he's not good enough for Barcelona anymore.

We will buy two defenders, and maybe a striker, either PDC or a young attacker, such as cisse.

My bet is that we will sign ayala definately i'm very sure of that, the other defender, i'm not sure maybe hofland, it all depends on the cost!

Out will go, blanc(retiring), johnsen, may, yorke, fortune etc.

Would also like to see some younger midfield cover signed for either giggs or beckham!

He's injured for the rest of the season. But he should be Gigg's understudy when Fortune leaves, and if Chadwick eventually doesn't make it, then Fletcher should.

season, its an operation in the stomach and the stomach muscles take 8 weeks or so to heal and get strong enough to exert pressure on ie running and football are out.

I heard old luke was sha**ing micheal owens mum, the scrubber!!

I am surprised so many think Ronny Johnson will go, he is playing well at the moment. A new Centre half is required, and cover up front if Yorke goes.

My ideal line up for next season would be
Bartez (minus the acting)
G. Neville
Silvestre
Blanc
Nesta
Giggs
Beckham
Keane (God)
Veron (fit)
Van Nistelrooy
Kluivert

Subs
P Neville
Butt
Brown
Solskaer
Scholes

Any comments???

Yes, most of which couldn't be aired publicly.

Kluivert = Egotistical arsehole who turned us down, and stated publicly that he didn't want to play for Manchester United.

barthez

g or p neville
o'shea
buy one (nesta/hofland/samuel/cannavaro)
silvestre (maybe candela)

becks
keano
veron
giggs

van nistelrooy
buy one (crespo/shevshenko/vieri)

I think there's a good chance we could get Schevchenko and at a reasonable price too. He's not playing great and he isnt looking very happy so I reckon he'll move in the summer. I dont think Veiri would move to Manchester as he could have his pick of any Italian or Spanish team and I cant see him playing in the cold of Manchester.

Barthez
Carr
Ayala
Oshea
Emerton
Giggs
Keane
Veron
Beckham
RVN
Shevchenko

subs
Carroll
G Neville
Butt
Scholes
Forlan

So you wouldn't even have Ole on the bench?????

Out:

Irwin...sadly too slow

Blanc...unfortunately looks like he isn't going to re-sign

Yorke...to Villa and the world of late night television

Wallwork...can't see United turning down an offer

May...ditto

Van der Gouw...retiring?

Barthez and Veron are both 50/50s to be United players next year imo

But assuming they stay then:

IN:

Jonny Ronsen re-signs

Desailly ...SAF loves old cbs and he would be a great player to have

Hofland...looks like he's coming although I hope Fergie has a Campbell-like rethink and gets the chance to sign Nesta/Tudor/Ayala

Chivu...I watch Ajax a lot and he is fantastic - would easily displace Silvestre.LB would be his best position for us imo

Gudjohnson...brillant partnership with JFH, he could be great with RVN too and would offer something different to the other possible striker pairings.

Robinson...I would expect us to sign an up-and- coming keeper in the summer

Don't think we'll get Cisse or PDC anymore.

Hope the Chelsea fightback stops now.

As I said at the start why change a great team.
SAF will not make too many changes he knows it could throw the balance out. It is time to search for relatively new young talent. As he did with Forlan. and build for the next ten years. Whats better 1 Champs league or another 10 years of success?

Common sense at last.

It seems that every player in Europe is bandied about as a possible addition to the team.

Change should be gradual and measured. Not every big name would fit in. You stick with what's working, and build on that, preferably from within. If United turned into a Chelsea, then tbh, it wouldn't feel like my team any more.

I would rather never win another trophy than be a team of big-name foreigners.

But look at it from the PLC's perspective. Those big foreign names make more money in replica shirt printing as we charge by the letter. ;)

Oh, OK I'll get me coat, it's home time anyway :p

The weekend starts here :D

Ideally, change should be gradual and measured but with the numbers of players seemingly intent on leaving/retiring this summer I fancy SAF will have to make wholesale changes in defense.

The only first team/squad defenders I think we should hang on to are:

The Nevilles
Brown
O'Shea
Jonsen
Silvestre

Hopefully one of O'Shea or Brown would take one of the cb positions and G.Neville retains his rb spot, the rest we need to buy imo.

We should get rid of Johnsen at the end of the season. yes hes been great for us, while he has been able to play but his knees are knackered and he's not going to be a regular due to his injuries.

No ta.

With who I'd like and think we have a chance of getting:

Bartez
Tudor, G. Nevile, Nesta, Silvestre.
Beckham, Scholes, Keane, Giggs.
Diego Tristen, RVN.

I would also like Boksic if we couldn't get Tristen. Possibly and good physical midfielder to free up Keane or RM to push Beckham inside. In my wildest dreams I'd like to see Zidane play behind RVN.
