New Zealand vs England

Right i'm off to downstairs to stick the t.v on.
No doubt we'll stop taking wickets.

Another one for Sidebottom...

Wish I'd put some money on this now after the start yesterday

Wow, that was a fast post.

But yeah :), this weren't what i was epecting at all, no complaints mind. lol

I'd have taken 100 runs behind after our first innings, unbelievable turn of events! Notice when the pressure is on, our best batsman of recent times and our best bowler step up...

Aye that is true.

152-8 Broad getting a 2nd.

Well done Monty, 165/9.

Though they're saying that he has hurt his hand taking the catch.

Bloody hell Vaughan, 5/1. Was not sensible batting that.

May it be a blip eh.

Come on Strauss, find your form.

Congrats to Strauss! He got his ton not all that long ago and the relief/delight with finaly getting it was more than evident. :)

Pleased for him, and Bell looks well in too and doing find indeed.

Sure the conditions arent' exactly the most demanding but an achievment whatever, some grit to get there and showing greater confidence and a free and easy manner in his play now.

Assuming he keeps his place, where should he go in the order? TMS have discussed him opening in place of Vaughan, or right up to .

That Ben Dirs on BBC ain't too happy.

2210 - 8-3
What a load of old rubbish this is. A quick flick through the television schedules reveals I could be watching River Walks With Charlie Dimmock. I wonder if she still eschews a bra? Bell picks up an easy single with a drop into the covers. That has to be it for Strauss for now, barring a 30-ball match-winning ton in the second innings.

:D

Fair play to Strauss, takes some guts to put together a score like that when you know its your last chance should you fail. It was just about the least convincing 170 innings I've ever seen, but doesn't matter, has helped set England up for the series victory, cracking stuff. My only concern is that this last innings might mask over Englands batting failings of the winter

I nearly put a couple of quid on the draw at yesterdays start of play, at magnificent odds, and I fancy had NZ managed to have kept a couple more wickets yesterday (when they batted well bar a dreadful afternoon session) it might have been on. Can't see them getting much further than lunch now

Mcculum always offers a chance or two, and while Taylor and Vettori are useful, i can't see them adding much more than 100.
I imagine we'll just be relieved to of won the series, after that shocking 5th day performance in Wellington.

This is a mild farce, the type of which England always seem to be involved in. I'm thinking the phantom end of the victorious home Ashes series, Pakistan refusing to give us a game, and now a 40 minute break for lunch when we all know Martin is going to be bowled out first bowl after the resumption. The lad should have just gone off retired hurt when Anderson thumped him on the head. None of this compassionate business for me, it's a disgrace for an international cricketer to be that bad at batting, he makes Devon Malcolm look like Lara. Bounce him again Jimmy!

Devon Malcolm, now there's a blast from the past, still no Gus Fraser though he was woefull with the bat.

Agreed. Martin is awful, however it's a sad state of affairs when Anderson has to revert to bowling half trackers at the worst batsman in international cricketing history.

fecking hell, their twating us everywhere right now.

The lad can bat!

Thing was, first innings, it really looked like he couldn't, he was dire! He's a slogger all right though

How the hell did Martin not get out that over?! This is a farce of a different sort than I was expecting. Entertaining though!

26 more maximums for Southee to go

EDIT 25...

Southee goes to a debut 50 (29 balls 2x4s, 7x6s) of quite astonishing destructiveness. In the first innings, he looked barely a step up on Martin. In this innings he's smashing everything. It's the fastest ever half-century for New Zealand, and he adds to it by edging over third-man for four before skying a ball agonisingly out of Vaughan's reach for a couple. He smashes four more over cover, and surely it's time to get Broad back on bowling at his throat - he didn't like that in the first innings. Southee keeps the strike with a single from the final ball, and Panesar's figures are taking a fearful hammering
