New ticketing system

I take it if you can't show you're the season ticket holder you don't get in and ST holder gets slapped wrist? Is checking happening a lot? Asking purely out of curiosity obviously...
There were quite a few complaints on Twitter about this, think it was the Liverpool league game. The club deactivated a number of tickets, 2000 was mentioned several times, and the ticket holders were sent from the turnstiles to the ticket office where they had to show ID before their tickets were re-activated. Some missed a lot of the first half, someone complained about this while in the ticket office and was told that he should’ve got to the turnstiles earlier. Another supporter had travelled from down south, had no ID with him and therefore the ticket office refused to reactivate his ticket.

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. I've drastically restricted what I see on twitter so missed this. I picked up from the earlier post that there were random checks at turnstiles but looks like it was a targeted exercise for that game. I'm all for reducing the opportunities for touts but not allowing a ST holder to give it to a mate/family member when they can't go is too far. Cheers.

And turned comments off?

Regardless of what they do, MUST tend to get a barrage of abuse on Twitter unfortunately

Sad as there have been quite a few positive developments driven by the likes of MUST in recent times - cheap youth tickets, safe standing, getting rid of ACS for all competitions etc

Imagine spending your life watching these bozos play football and then having your season ticket taken from you because an IT error said you weren't there when you actually were.

It's ridiculous.

A bloke who sits near my parents nearly lost his season ticket because he missed a few games due to the death of his wife. He'd been in the loyalty pot for 20+ years by all accounts and was kicked out of that and had to fight just to keep his season ticket. They made him ineligible for the semi final and final tickets.

To be clear, if you don't show up for games they cancel your season ticket?

That didn't happen in the past. I gave up my season ticket about six years ago and it never mattered if you attended or not, you'd already paid regardless.

If that's the case I would never be able to have a season ticket ever again.

For anyone talking about WiFi and mobile data for her new ticket download on the app, you don’t need any data. It’s technically in a wallet that is available without data or the internet

Why would this be the case?? There are so many options to make sure that your ticket is ‘used’.

All I can say to that is 'lol'.

I had to give up my ST when I split with my partner and the only time I could see my child was at weekends. So it was a straight choice between continuing to go to matches or literally never seeing my child, ever. Obviously I chose the latter.

For three painful seasons I held onto my ST in the hope that I could sell tickets on whilst going to the odd game where I could. Couldn't sell them to anyone. Unless it was City, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea. Sold those in minutes. Any other fixture, forget it.

Used to advertise them at work (for perspective, I worked in an office with over three thousand people in it), I was on four different United ticket selling groups on Facebook. Face was £42, I would offer them as low as £20 or even £15 at times. Really great seat and view as well. No-one wanted to know. Oddly enough, the people who snapped my hand off for the big games 'couldn't make it' when it was any other fixture. Time and time again they 'couldn't make it'. Funny how that works. All these people that reckoned they were such big fans shrunk into the woodwork when presented with a chance to see the team they claimed to be such a big fan of. I'm not bitter about it at all, honest

I could barely afford to pay for all these tickets in the first place and I definitely couldn't justify losing so much money so eventually I gave it up.

And that’s all fine. I didn’t mean to offend you if I did (your first line has thrown me a little).

Might be different now a little bit - you can either forward to people directly, sell it back to the club for a full ‘refund’ or donate the price of it to United Foundation (don’t laugh, it’s a lovely thought). All of them count to your ticket being used.

Or transfer to one of the lovely people on here. I’ve done it as a last resort on occasions and never had any issues

Oh no, absolutely no offence was taken, I assure you! :) I think I often word things in a manner that comes across more aprubt than I intend it to

I agree, it seems much easier now. I lurked on here for over ten years before I actually created an account. Might've had more success if I had been able to advertise on here.

Just from the ST holders I know who have done the process before. The club apparently can and do sell your 'transferred' ticket and relocate the person whom the ticket was forwarded to. Might be hogwash, but I'm not sure why I would be told this from someone who has done it.

I forward my ticket to my nephew for half of games as I share my ticket with him, he is always allocated my seat with no exceptions over the past 2 seasons, unsure why someone has told you this as its almost certainly not true

17/19 is fine, you can pass the ticket around.... oh wait you can't now with the QR nonsense / 1 device -> memberships required. It's a simple attempt by the club to extract more money from memberships - memberships by the way which are barely worth the cost (minus euro credits) as they can't sell tickets with any organization (1 ticket dump, the website crashes) and have blatantly reduced the number available in the first place, instead pairing it up with some hospitality rubbish (ET2 en masse for example). Oh - and by the way - membership prices have raised considerably in recent years - £49 in Tier 2 East/West -> that was £39 not long ago. So this is bad for ST's and bad for Memberships.

Anyone who says this is simply a way for the club to "get with the times" isn't connecting the dots. They are desperate to kneecap our support and our various supporters groups or fan representatives haven't said a word. A complete embarrassment.

That said, clearly they had to do something with ST's who take the piss, hold onto tickets and barely go or tout it - without question and yes there are plenty. Broadly the 17/19 is fine ( I don't love it, but you don't have to go yourself - it just needs to be used), but its the you MUST use the app, it only refreshing 3 hours before the game and cynical ploy to just sell more memberships and thus rendering it even more useless for existing members that needs pushing back on.

Yes, that’s the case. As mentioned, next season we have to attend 17 out of the 19 Prem games or we lose our season tickets. It counts as being used if you forward it through the proper channels to a member, return to the club for a refund or donate to the Foundation but if you’d been bereaved or had a family member seriously ill I very much doubt sorting out your ticket would be at the forefront of your mind. You can appeal but I'm not sure how far the club go in wanting proof, a death certificate perhaps?

There are other last minute situations that might stop you being able to attend though. If you end up working late, traffic problems, cancelled trains etc and the alternative options which count as usage which I’ve mentioned above cease to be available in the hours before a game so that’s a black mark against you.

Has anybody heard anything about being still being able to screenshot season tickets?

We are a group of 6 where 3 people have season tickets and we all share them between each other throughout the season and we get in using screenshots. No touting going on and every ticket gets used by somebody for every game.

Apparently you can take a photo with another phone but you can’t do a screenshot on your own phone because it is disabled

Agree with all of that mate.

Why dont you all just add the ticket to your wallets?

This is going to be an absolute mess. Multiple people I know are getting the message “this is not your authorised device” even though they literally selected it as being their chosen device seconds before on the previous screen. So these people can’t currently access their tickets for tonight and are on the phone to the ticket office which is undoubtedly going to be getting hammered.

Yeah, you have to take a photo of the QR code on your phone screen using another device and then use that. Pretty annoying but it does work.

Ideally we are hoping we can do that but one of my friends shared a picture saying you acknowledge your ticket can only be loaded on to 1 device or something along those lines. I don't know if it was real or not but if it is then it obviously won't be possible.

We have been discussing buying the cheapest smartphones we can and loading the tickets on to one each and passing them around each game.

Yep my mates are getting a burner phone

Isn't it easier to just get a £20 membership and get the tickets officially forwarded ?

This is also better because the ticket is then officially in your name

Already in our family group who are the only people we share the tickets with they are all getting the membership it's a bit of a shit bit at £20 each it's easily doable and as you say it's in their name so it's a much better way if they are shutting down sharing via screenshot etc

The guys who own the season tickets want them used in their name so it doesn't affect their eligibility for cup finals

They're absolute dickheads.

We were a bit off hand and passed on our tickets to a friend who was taking his two young girls (screenshots, he only had 1 membership). They got rumbled at the turnstile and took to the ticket office, where they were interrogated for 45 minutes as part of a "fraud investigation". This was for the Villa game on boxing day. We called the club and had a go at them, explaining that we only knew on Xmas day that we couldn't go and that we were short of options with everything being closed. In the end, they made him buy two additional memberships for his girls and they sold them our tickets. But guess what... we'd already paid for the fecking tickets! Like I said, absolute dickheads. Although we managed to get our tickets refunded as we told them that we knew they resold them.

Forwarding PL tickets does not affect your eligibility for cup finals

You actually take a bit of a gamble using tickets in someone else's name - there are some random ID checks at the turnstiles and of your name doesn't match then you aren't going in

I've heard rumours of that but never experienced it myself in about 60 games over the last three seasons. We may have to accept we are going to have to start transferring to memberships if they clamp down on it.

I've been on the waiting list for my own season ticket for 3 years I'm still holding out hope that this is finally the year I get one and I don't have to worry about any of this

if there are random ID checks, what if you have no ID with your own ticket?

Has there any more comms or annocuments on why they're going down this route?

If they're looking to crack down on touting they ought to look at the aways as well at some point, probably at the bottom of their priorities as there's no profit to be made there.

Read reports of being refused entry.

I'm not sure what kind of ID they expect - never happened to me but know a few who were questioned at the turnstiles and if your answers don't match then they send you to the ticket office for further interrogation!

I guess the official reason is touting

The hidden reason is probably to get more people on the app

I do believe the app is to clamp down on touting. The current system is still easily exploitable. If you have one season ticket and one other membership, you can forward all 19 matches from the season ticket to the membership and generate 19 one-off QR codes that you can easily WhatsApp or e-mail to whoever you want. All cup games are a one-off QR code anyway and can also be sent in a such a way.

I’ve come to realise that touts are buying tickets off people through various means, such as face-value groups, getting them forwarded to a pool of memberships, and then just reselling the one-off QR code tickets for a profit.

The digitalisation of season tickets has been a great thing. It is super convenient, but people have been exploiting that. My only hope next season is that the club allows buybacks to happen for all cup matches, because our options are incredibly limited otherwise.

Uturn on some of the changes that were due next season

Hopefully fans will realise that the Fans Forum, MUST etc actually do what they can to represent the views views Vs the club

Still I think the general idea to make sure tickets are used and not left empty is a good one - maybe 17/19 was a step too far though

Revenue making exercise it’s not a coincidence reports are coming out about staff members losing perks etc.

This is a huge cost cutting exercise and maximising revenue at all opportunities. This is what happens when you have a successful business owner at the helm.

The great improvement in the WiFi throughout old Trafford was more likely to facilitate this all along.

In short milk the fans for everything you can get away with.

So, a member ticket I downloaded for the Newcastle game is now saying 'Expired' in my wallet App. I downloaded it again and it's saying the same. Anyone know what this means please?
NB: I don't use the United App.
