Would it not be possible to use the leverage of the stadium deal to force the Glazers out?

Someone has quite possibly already suggested this, but I’d love for the bricks from Old Trafford to be laid as the walkway up to the new stadium.

There's lots of room for creativity here I think.

You could have statues, the dugouts, goalposts etc all lining the walkway to the stadium.

The old tunnel is the oldest part of the stadium so that should be kept somewhere also.

To me the dugouts are iconic so would be nice if they were kept as a spot to rest.

They could be incorporated into the plaza/fan zone areas maybe.

Based on this it looks like the stadium can squeeze in just about and keep the actual freight terminal in place but the freight yard will have to move.

But as you say, it's difficult to tell.

But we must assume it's the case, otherwise they wouldn't be so confident of building it in 5 years.

It could take 10 years to move the freight terminal. The new one in St Helen's hasn't even started construction.

It's not going to take 10 years, that wildly exaggerated.

Yeah your probably right but if enough people were to put it to the higher ups, you just never know.
If I ever get the chance to come from the other side of the world to see a game I know the first thing I'd do is go for a
walk on the hallowed turf if it still existed.
Don't forget it is the theatre of dreams.

I don't live quite so far but I'd love that too.

I'd would be great if they could maintain the turf through demolition and then keep it maintained like a decent pitch for kids to play on.

Looking at the design, most of that walkway up to the stadium will be where Old Trafford is now.

Yeah looks like, it'll be a sad day for me when they finally demolish OT. It's such a shame that at least part of it can't live on in some capacity.

Parkside is going through the environmental impact phase and working out the cheapest way of getting hold of the whole site (mostly farmland I've read - but I don't know what the definition of mostly is)

It does more or less assume that the railway lines next to it can be upgraded to accommodate the extra freight traffic. They're waiting for that go button on the railway upgrade as well.

I doubt the actual physical build would take that a long time though. The land is already earmarked for it in the local plan. It certainly won't have any logistics issues during construction.

The land is probably too valuable.

Maybe they could keep the goals and penalty spot.

Both of you with brilliant ideas. But sadly, I have zero hope that any of these things will happen.
For the guy to be so blasé about removing the measly £40k pot for former players, I just don’t see these types of things even crossing his mind and I doubt he’s got a team around him who’ll even mention it.

So when they said 5 years, does that mean that within the next five years they expect to break ground, or that they expect the stadium to be complete by 2030?

If he wants to attract tourists and wants fans to spend more time and money there, then these types of things are vital.

He meant it could be constructed in 5 years, but I think that's from once planning permission is secured.
Not 5 years from right now.

Or maybe even keep the pitch there but divide it up to smaller 5 aside pitches for people to play in? I dunno, just an idea.

The stadium build will require another equity injection from INEOS or perhaps from another investor, maybe institutional money. The Glazers will be diluted when the cash injection comes in. The reason the Glazers gave up operational control was because they didn’t want to inject the capital required to run the club, much less build a new stadium. The reason they remained shareholders was that they didn’t get the valuation they wanted for the club. 69% of a 4.5b valuation is less than 49% of a 10b valuation…

As soon as SJR has 50.1% of the club, the Glazers are powerless and basically become limited partners.

Absolutely SJR had plans for a new stadium as part of his pitch and he has the finances / cash lined up to build the stadium and gain control of the club.

I think the new design looks so modern/ futuristic that anything from the old stadium will look far too out of place and will just be moved to the museum for museum tours.
I think the statues just lined down the centre of the plaza will be as far as mementos go. Maybe a new statue to go along with them, a 90’s trio or similar statue.

I mean if you truly do find it magical to have bags of urine thrown on you by strangers you do you but I expect it's not for everyone.
Haha yeah it didn’t quite read as intended, the point was that the hostility and abuse was part of the experience, which overall was magical

I hope we do lots of things like this and resue as much of OT as we can.

I'd also love to be able to buy a few bits of OT.

I think it'd be cool. Otherwise it will be pretty generic.
If he wants to attract people to the fanzone on non-match days, then being able to sit in the dugouts would be a nice attraction.

I was thinking a "Class of '92" statue would be appropriate considering the amount of appearances and trophies and goals they contributed.

Or else Rooney or Cantona.

The club have said they hope to be moved in by the start of 2030/31 season. But I imagine there's a lot of hurdles to clear first and we have to bear in mind very few construciton projects ever finish on time. Mostly because in my experience the people deciding deadlines and time frames are not the same people having to actually do the work.

Some iconic old Trafford or United moments cast in bronze would be cool

Rooney's overheard kick
Cantonas celebration after the chip
Ole knee slide in camp nou
Giggs Vs arsenal in fa cup

The Athletic podcast reckons that part of the funding will come from Sir Jim raising his stake and becoming. Majority shareholder in the club..I mean he's already acting like it.

As for the rest of the financing, they explained that United have lot of land around the Trafford area. Profits on new builds are about 63k currently. So if all the 17k are built by United themselves on their land, that's paying back over a billion on financing alone.

It was closed when we played AC Milan in preseason under Ole, and it was a horrible sweaty breathless experience. Zero fresh air.
Can't say I've been to an outdoor sports event with a closed roof

Wouldn't that be an indoor sports event then?

I've never experienced it either but I've heard it's a bit shit.

With the transparent roof on the new stadium presumably for the benefit of the grass. A roof would make it like a green house.

They won't worry about the grass growing. Pretty much as soon as OT's empty the grow lights roll out onto the pitch. The current OT stands are tall enough to mean there's too much shade to rely on sunlight.

How long would it take to build this stadium and are we going to share with City while the stadium is under renovation?

They're targeting opening it in 2030. Reality wise who knows between getting to go ahead and inevitable delays.

I hate the design but it will probably grow on me. At least it looks somewhat original.

Inside looks great though.

Why would we share with City? The stadium is being built next to OT. We will be able to play at OT until the new stadium is ready.

I chose like it initially. The more I look at the design, the more it grows on me. Now I love it!
