In fact if he wants it to be his legacy, just pay for it, he's more than able to, call it the "Sir Jim Ratcliffe Stadium at Old Trafford" and ensure that naming rights can never be sold.

Even if Ineos are, they are not one and the same. Ratcliffe is worth over 20 bn. 10% of that would be sufficient.

It's Trump style tactics of diverting attention from what is really going on or might be about to. Firing more staff, more Glazer bleeding of our club, awful transfer business, etc etc

I think Jim is a bit of a Trump type who wants to be seen to be doing big grand things, or at least talking about doing them. He hasn't really impressed me at all so far. And if we see some improvement in how the club is being run, it's because it was so fecking terribly run before he got there. So terrible, it couldn't have been more terrible.
So basically you don't know what it is a smokescreen for. Got it.

I don't like Jim, but INEOS have a track record of building things. They will get this done. Simple.

What have INEOS built?

I keep seeing discussions about the Munich tunnel being moved and rebuilt. I wonder if it makes more sense for a new club museum to be built around it, with it forming a key part of that. Given that its also the oldest part of the stadium it keeps part of Old Trafford forever.

Delusional.

You do realise that Ratcliffe doesn't have billions sitting in a bank vault, his wealth is INEOS and what INEOS is worth determines how much he is worth

I read he owns 60% of Ineos and has 5 bn outside of Ineos. He could simply sell a stake couldn't he? If he wants it to be his legacy. A real legacy, not one he helped make happen by adding more debt to United.

"As of February 12, 2024, James A. Ratcliffe’s liquid assets (primarily consisting of cash and readily marketable securities) were in excess of $4 billion (£3.2bn)."

Bullshit. It’s mostly in the form of gold coins, kept in an otherwise empty Olympic swimming pool, into which he regularly dives and swims about.

Yeah 5bn outside of INEOS in what? Anyone who has money and two brain cells doesn't have a significant amount sitting in a bank account.

Why would he sell a stake?

There is an old saying. Put together a room full of millionaires and ask them whos money they go rich off of....the answer is the banks.

If you have enough money you can borrow enough money and not use your own to increase your wealth. SJR isn't using his own for this.

He’s only going to inject more money if it gets him to/towards >50%? No point if Glazers remain majority shareholders.

If we want to keep the vibe of our current stadium we could make the roof leak and the kitchen damp and call it Mould Trafford? I'll get my coat..
Youre not wrong, the home reflects the owner and the people. If ten hag is still here Bold Trafford is an option

The stadium announcement seemed to take the government somewhat by surprise. A spokesperson at 10 Downing Street said of the government’s possible commitment: "The [stadium] proposals involve significant investment and could generate 90,000 jobs and a significant boost to the economy. It’s only been announced today, so we are unsure as to the amount yet. I’m not aware of any government support that has been committed to the project."

Like you, I still have some doubts. Ratcliffe no doubt favours a new build and surely hopes that the public announcement will get some momentum behind the project and act as a catalyst for the government investment, upon which the entire project rests. From both the government and United's perspective, it remains completely unfunded, though, and until that changes, it is probably worth maintaining some healthy skepticism.

Yep it can't really get going until the Government give the go ahead but at least one member of the Government sounds a bit more hopeful that the project will be going ahead relatively shortly.

But the pool is in a vault with a giant door isn't it?

You are right and he won't do that. But some clueless posters believe he should despite being harassed by them.
What he might do is use his network and relations to get banks as well as corporates or wealthy individuals to invest

This not difficult at all to fund. It will be done through a secondary company owning the lease to the stadium on the condition that when we complete say 20-22 payments of just over 100m per year then the stadium will be transferred to the club.

You plebs can come back to this post and clap me when this happens

Stadium could be called The Trident. Wouldn’t be long before some wacko evangelicals here in the US made speeches of the satanic nature of the stadium.

Dosn't really matter because there are about 30 Manchester's in the US and by the time they realize it's not located in any of them they'll be the spitting image of ETH because they've pulled out their hair in the desparate search to find it

Years ago, I was driving up the Mendocino coast in California. I stopped off in Manchester (I just had to) and went into the local diner for a bite to eat. I asked the waitress if United were at home that weekend and whether Kevin Moran was back from suspension.

Zero chance of this happening imo. You know how these things go, construction projects, they say 5 years and then after 10 years, the lazy bums haven't even started yet. Now we're those lazy bums.

I regularly pass thru Manchester in Tennessee, it's a fairly small place, a bit rundown and not a whole lot going on aside from a annual 4-day outdoor music festival which is apparently in the top 10 attended in the US

I like the sound of all of that to be honest

If Ratcliff were to pump money into the stadium, he would probably want the rest of shareholders to do the same, else he would expect his shares to be increased. Why would he pump money in otherwise? Taking a loan would make more sense at this moment given that he doesn't own the entirety of United.
