Fergie hopes to have signed someone, or have news of a signing, by Monday.

Hot news from the man himself. MUTV.

My money's on Escude too... altough the "one or two things" is an interesting quote ;)

The other one could be that Argentinian Boca defender weve been linked with lately, I think he played against us few weeks ago with Boca...

couldn't think of 2 defenders there ... we have Gary on the way back so what's the point ? ... on the other hand - we are quite obvious lacking of alternatives up-front ... I would rather Fergie use the extra 2-3mil and get a good season-long loan deal instead ...

Hopefully, the other player he's talking about is Carini. Have heard really good things about him. With him and Escude/Silvestre, O'Shea/ Ferdinand/Brown we'd have an incredible nucleus of young players in our defence that could play for us the next 10 years.

We have Carroll. I feel he's suffient back-up. It's not a position we're despirate for cover really, not compared to some of the others. I'd be suprised if we signed another keeper before the end of the season.

It's all about Barthez really. If he does have a chance of making it for Tuesday and he's not out for weeks as feared, it would be unlikely that we signed another keeper.

Gotta be Escude.

But he did say one or TWO things, so who is the potential No.2(signing that is)?
1. Could be a keeper, Fergie was quoted on planetfootball a few days back saying we need a new keeper.
2. Another defender - not likely since we'll have Escude by then.
3. A striker - a great possibility, but who? Ronaldo on loan for a season may not be too bad. He says he doesn't want to play for Inter, ever again and Real say the move has collapsed, so Ronaldo with an option to buy him at the end of the season may not be too bad, but I doubt it.

Soccernet reckon its both Escude and Burdisso. Escude sounds great, but Id rather not have another CB here, we are covered there for the next decade or so. :D

Thats nice, but while we may need a right back as short term solution, we have bigger needs on a long term (past the next few weeks)... This whole argentennian thing doesn't sound like much to me, just media talk rather than substance.

It's Escude and... god knows what else!

from Tribal football:

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he hopes to bring in a new goalkeeper this week.
With Fabien Barthez still struggling with a hip injury, Fergie says he will sign an experienced shot-stopper if United get past this week's Champions League qualifier.

He said, "Fabien won't be fit for Tuesday but if we qualify, we've got three days left to do something.

"We think Fabien will be ready soon but it is a delicate injury.

"The fluid has gone from the hip and he is doing his gym work, kicking a ball and taking part in training as an outfield player.

"But we are not asking him to dive yet... it would be too big a risk at the moment."

------------------------------------------

Not sure where they got the quote from as I haven't seen it anywhere actually! If it is real, than it looks as though we will bring a goalkeeper if we qualify.

Why?

We only use one. ;)

Yeah, I've been thinking that 4-5-1 is Fergie's creative solution to our lack of funds for a 4th striker!

:)

And if Ruud picks up a knock or a ban?
Ole or Diego are not the sort to play a lone furrow up front to be honest I don't think it really suits Ruud or our style of football all of our success has come with a 4-4-2 formation, surely SAF is looking at strikers .

Today's Official Newsletter;

"As to the possibility of new players coming in, there's no news at the moment. We could maybe do something by Monday. We're very close to one or two things, but time is running out, so we're going to have to get our finger out" - Fergie

noooooooooooooo not sullivan

only maybe poom or carini will do

here's my wishfull thining:

Crespo (ronaldo????), and Carini, after these two have signed then we are off to sort out Escude deal.

It is almost confirmed that Escude will be the new signing. If there's room for another, Carini could be the one.

Talks over Escude will resume today(monday) as yesterdays had to be put back.
It sounds like its just a matter of agreeing a fee

because our 1st choice keeper still cant dive in training and the only back-up to carrol is a 19 year old

Roa is available apparently - he'd be a good keeper to bring in. Escude deal will surely be done soon. Still can't see where the striker is coming from though.

One or two things? A defender (Escude) and hopefully a striker (???)?
