New PC - worth waiting for Windows 7?

are the two 4870's 512mb and the single 4890 1gb ??

what about the monitor ?

Actually, on closer inspection I'm an idiot. It's not two 4870s, it's a 4870 x2, which I'm not totally sure what it is. Costs more than the 4890 though, so I assume it's better! It's got 2GB of memory, but I think that translates to 1GB because it has two cores or something.

Would you consider a Core i7 processor instead of a Core 2 Quad, or are you restricted by price when considering the processor amongst other things?

This is the machine I've decided to get, especially as it's on special offer this week and thus very reasonably priced:

With the 4870 x2 and a Antec 902 case.

So it's already Core i7.

its more or less the same thing.

question is whether you really need it ? if i were you i would get myself the 4890 1gb and save money.

but the 4870x2 > 4890.

the 4870x2 is one of the best cards available at the moment.

A 4870X2 is basically two 4870's on a single card.

I think you should be able to get 2 x 1GB 4870's cheaper than a single 4870X2 if you shop around.

Thanks for the advice everyone there is a chance I might keep my pc and get a laptop instead. Iv never had a laptop any suggestions. I had 800 but for a laptop probably not spend over 600. My mate was saying Sony Vaio's are good but I don't know. I know I said im not a big gamer but I do play FM soa laptop that could handle that really well.

You won't get a good Vaio for 600 quid, they're very high priced laptops, and not really worth the money to be honest.

When buying a laptop there are two main things you need to consider.

Screen size
Battery life

The bigger the screen, the cheaper the laptop, because it costs less for the companies to put stuff into it and find space. This also means the laptop will be heavier though, and 17" screens are generally VERY heavy. Generally the battery life is lower (sometimes drastically) with bigger laptops too, I get 5.5 hours with my 13" XPS, and I used to get about 1.5 - 2 hours with my old 17" Inspiron, big difference.

Basically, you need to figure out what you want to sacrifice, having a powerful laptop, or having a light laptop that's good for travelling, cause with 600 quid you won't get both.

I can spend 800 if I want to if the laptop is great. I would rather a powerfull laptop I don't go to college or uni. I would only take to my mates house I would go in a car so no carrying it around on buses. Not really bothered about the battery life because were ever I use it I will be able to charge it and the screen anything bigger then 14" is good enough for me.
