new No.9

To hell with it... just decided I want a new shirt with 'Ronaldo 9' on the back. I have said elsewhere I wouldn't trust a Brazilian in the English League - but he is Ronaldo after all...

There are two options, link up man and Owen-type player. Kluivert is out of the question since he doesn't even fit into those roles or knows what his true role is.

Cisse is my number one choice. But since he will most likely be joining Pool and we dont even get mentioned regarding him anymore, Defoe is going to be a star. He'd be a great buy.

Two players come to mind: Dean Ashton / Paulo di Canio. Both are different type of players, and PDC would be better for a short-term option, but we should sign Ashton before his price rockets imo. Mal Christie would also be in the frame, but I doubt SAF is looking at either, or he wouldn't have signed Forlan.

I think this makes more sense then saying Rivaldo or Ronaldo ... ;)

Agreed Carew is not the best option, but I think Ole should be good enough to play alongside RVN and i think if we want a nippy striker for the long term, we will need to spend on someone like Cisse or Defoe or possibly Ashton(much cheaper, but not a short term benefit as a long term benefit). Otherwise Carew can ba good backup for RVN. Carew is powerful in the air, but his technique is not so good.

Pacy, nippy and speed demon type of striker as our new no. 9 .... Below my latest preference list :

1. Agahowa ( get get him Fergie !! )
2. Vessell
3. Defoe
4. Christie
5. Philips

Agahowa .. Agahowa ... Shouldn't have any problem with the redtape ... by the time after WC, he should have easily achieve the 75% minimum requirement needed ( playing for his country national team ) ...

He will score a tons of goal in the open-spaced EPL ... he WILL be a gem in OT !!!

a player just crossed my mind while surfing the sites ... I know this guy won't receive too much welcome praise by most fan but frankly speaking - he's not done that well not because he's not capable of - but rather he has just not given the chance to even adapt to English football ...

Rebrov ... I rated him very highly when he's in Kiev ... ... Although I have concerns over his non-EU status and Fergie probably won't want to try another Russian/Ukarain after Kanchelsky saga ... but this guy has plenty of experience at top CL level ... He has had a year now in EPL and saying that he hasn't had enuf chances to play - but he at least has come to know abt the football in UK ...
I think he'll definitely be leaving this summer ... but wonder how much Hoddle will be asking for ... He came with 11mil so I don think he will command anything abv 7mil now It could worth a gamble ... In WHL you see him not getting the necessary play from his teammate ... but at OT I think it'll be a very different scenario ..

I dont think Rebrov is the same without Shevchenko.

I dont agree with Vassel either, he just doesn't score enough goals and is not in the same class as Henry/Owen.

Only real options I am aware of right now are Agahowa, Cisse, Defoe.

But Mexes should be our priority youngster right now. Defence comes first.

Carew is crap. Rebrov! Oh! no...doesnt do enough...anymore.

How about:

1) Christie - opportunistic, quick, energetic, good header.
2) Diego Tristan - quick and skillful...

Di canio still comes to mind though for trickery and the throughball (passing and collecting it).

Just thought I'd throw Craig Bellamy into the mix.
Young, super fast, transformed Newcastle's season. Created space for that old cnut Shearer to score 20-odd league goals. The one thing we lack up front now is genuine pace.

I'd say Giggs and Bellamy are very similar when playing ahead of the midfield. Pairing Bellamy and Ruud would be just the same as if we had Ryan as his partner imo.
