New GK or Valdes + an extra outfield player

I agree for a few reasons

A few defensive signings will not help our cause with Valdes in the backline, and he wont be masked like what happened with that brilliant Barca team, who Valdes was one of the weak links of that team. If people expect us to go into the new season with just Valdes and anders lindegaard to get us through an entire season that is asking for trouble, big trouble. We rack up the amount of games Valdes and anders lindegaard have played last season, it is a combined total of 2 games.

Second, Valdes was never that good in the first place, always prone to mistakes and he has hardly experienced the PL. The worry thing is? we aint giving potential a chance, just a keeper coming back from a serious injury at the age of 33. And can any of us see Valdes doing well for nearly 50 games a season? its a risk I wish the club would not take. I see 1999 with our keepers happening all over again, and this time we wont have the midfield and attack to bail the defense out.

This is not buying someone like VDS a keeper who aged like a fine wine, Valdes is the opposite of VDS. We already do not have the greatest of defenses, putting Valdes in that backline that is a time bomb waiting to go off. If we lose DDG, he must be replaced. A GK is has important has any of the positions in the squad, and just playing Valdes is cutting corners in the squad.

Yea compare the 1999-03 teams, along with the manager and the competition of the PL back then to the current team and manager, its night and day. The team of 1999 masked the deficiency's of the defense and keeper, do not think any of our current midfield and attack would get into the 1999 midfield and attack, and the strikers back then were in a different league to our current strikers
 
I don't see any reason why we wouldn't give Valdes a chance. He was world-class in his latter years at Barca and with Cech going elsewhere, there aren't many, if any, goalkeepers of his talent available. Would be foolish not to give him a shot, why did we sign him if he's never going to play?
 
Wouldn't mind going with Valdes & other player (preferably an experienced CB). I guess part of it depends if spending big on top GK would mean abandoning signing another impact player or two, it makes sense to go with Valdes. He ain't chopped meat and probably is decent in distribution (assuming Barca training). Plus he's used to being a keeper for a top team, so is not only accustomed to the pressure of being on said team but is also used to being uninvolved for most of the game but yet alert enough when called upon.

The current market kinda sucks for keepers, TBH. The most ready made GK is employed by a dick of a negotiator when it comes to us, while most of the other keepers are a bit on the potential side. Granted, we bought DG on potential but there was a lot of growing pains, which LVG can't afford based on his 3 yr contract & current makeup of team. If the team had a better defense, we'd be able to take that gamble on potential, but the back 4 doesn't allow that currently.
