New Features: Threadmarks and improved player performance threads

Maintaining that could be a pain tbh. Someone would need to be in charge of this, checking and updating it every day. That person won't be me. Are you volunteering Invictus? ;)

Sure, why not.

That said I realize the ambiguity of such a function while typing this, in that it might be based on unsubstantiated reports. Like Herrera's match-fitness, about which there were conflicting reports util recently (and fueled riotous passions among the members).. :nervous:

Oh yea I've seen it but don't really rate because I'm straight out of the matchday thread and into the United forum after matches.

I want to integrate the ratings and MOTM form into other parts of the site to get more submissions. I think quite a few people use the site like you do - straight to the forums list, bypassing the homepage. So you won't see those forms.

I guess you could add an option to rate a given player from the new header of his performance thread?

I was thinking that actually. However, the system requires members to rate all players in the match. The 'call to action' in the header could open up the full ratings form for all players. I'll have to think about it further.

That's the problem. It's semi-guesswork, especially when players are nearing a return from injury. I don't think it's worth the effort tbh.

Ah alright, I didn't know that. I was thinking along the lines of rating the player whose thread you're in and then being asked to rate the rest of the team afterwards. But I guess that wouldn't really work as it leaves you with the option of not rating the rest.

Great addition! One bug bare of mine is that the average rating is ranked on games x average score rather than simply average score, surely DDG will be top however he plays?

Yeah the way the 'Highest rated players' is determined is flawed, I need a better solution but haven't had time to think of one. Any ideas @Flamingo Purple ?

Doing it based purely based on average score won't work as somebody could play 1 match, perform great, not play again all season and be at the top of the rankings. It needs be weighted with the number of appearances.

I'm not good at these kind of algorithms so happy for other, smarter people on here to come up with some alternatives :)

Yeah it's a tricky one to implement. Perhaps something like a minimum of 50% of possible games played? Also maybe count any player that has played less than 45 minutes only half a game. This idea is still very flawed, hopefully some bright spark thinks of a solution.

Another little feature I introduced but forgot to turn on:

Clean sheet stats for goalkeepers and defenders

Woot!

Threadmarks seems like a great idea for the player performances threads. Good stuff.

Really wish other forums I visited paid more attention to their site like you do to this one :(

You should admin every forum on the internet tbh

Then what'd happen to the caf? Better than we've got Niall pretty much all to ourselves, apart from his wife, daughter, job etc.

@Niall

I'm thinking maybe Niall should introduce player injury status to the banners
I'd like to see that too, would be a handy addition. Of course, it'd have to be from a reliable source or from club confirmation - there's no point having "Daley Blind - out for 3 weeks - 6 months"

@Niall

Could we also have a graph showing player's form? Looking in the Smalling thread, his average rating is 5.6 which seems low but obviously it's because of the City game.

It'd be good if we could have a representation of his season game by game, that way we can see if he's been at a constant level or if he's had some erratic performances (as he has done)

If you click the picture, a card comes up which includes ratings for last five games. The graph isn't great at the moment but Niall is changing it at some point.

Yeah the graph will look like this soon:

Just having a problem getting XenForo to co-operate with loading the profile properly with the new graph.

If I'm honest I didn't think I'd get much use out of these new features when I first saw them. After a few days use though I find myself using them more and more. Great additions Niall. Lucky you have more foresight than me.

Loving the threadmarks. Redcafe is really my favorite forum in terms of features.

With reference to this thread, is there any way to add a "Request Threadmark" link to each post, next to the "Report" link? I think something like that, launching a modal popup so you can request the threadmark without having to depart from the thread, would be great from an end-user perspective and make it much more likely that people would contribute to adding the threadmarks. You could then make some kind of admin/mod panel that deals with them more easily I think.

Another awesome feature btw :)

Nice idea @Raptori

I'll see what the response is like to the other thread and maybe add that feature if its warranted in the future.
