New Computer

You benchmarked it with any games then?

I was just waiting for Human Revolution before I do. The only thing I have done is a video stress test on Counter Strike: Source (Which I got back into after downloading Steam for DX2), running a cool 557fps.

What games are good to benchmark RK?

I'm getting a new Hard Drive

It seems my 2 year old setup is still going strong.

The past month ive been thinking to upgrade to ssd myself but the price seems way off.

That are already released?

Metro 2033, Bad Company 2, Arma 2. They don't necessarily have the best graphics to date, but they're poorly optimised so serve as a good litmus test.

Aye that's some great stats for a 2 year old.

It depends how you look at it I guess.

I bought a 60gb and installed windows on it and a few other programs that I have running all the time and I will have a game or two installed on it. The rest goes on my old 250gb 7200rpm and my media and general files go on my 1tb External.

That way, I've upgraded the performance of my Computer without limiting myself for space.

I wouldn't buy an SSD if you are looking for storage but looking at it now as a performance component I think it's worth the upgrade.

Installing windows on ssd seems the way to go since it would greatly reduce the loading up time of applications and windows itself.

which one have you got ? im looking at ocz ssd's

No idea Viva  My Temps are around 39 degrees C though which is very safe apparantly.

Downloading Crysis 2 now, I'll give you a few stats later.

If you can get ARMA2 running consistent at 40+ fps, that's good performance and will mean games like COD and BFBC2 will fly along. ARMA is more CPU / RAM dependent than graphics. Having said that, if you don't like slow paced tactical shooters don't buy it as it will bore you senseless.

I love Arma 2, the scale and depth is absolutely phenomenal compared to generic shooters like COD and BC2. Its slow-pace means it probably won't be everyone's cup of tea, but no experience beats a perfectly coordinated multiplayer game where everyone plays their role efficiently. They just could have done a better job of optimising it for hardware.

Can't wait for Arma III though

Crysis 2 will be down in 30 min or so but won't be able to play it til 11 or so tonight because I'll be in service :(

Same here. Which servers do you play ARMA on?

I've left my Sous Chef in charge

Right, installed Crysis 2 ect ect and all I'm getting is a black screen with a green pointer. I've googled it and it seems like a very common problem, anyone had similar and fixed it?

Ok Gave up on Crysis, Got Bad Company 2 running, at full settings, 32x antialiasing ect ect and it's sitting pretty around 110 according to Fraps, maxed at 146 lowest it hit was 72.

The Crucial system scanner now says that the most RAM I can use is 8GB. It said 16GB when I last posted in this thread :(

Maybe I should buy a new motherboard...

In reply to the SSD questions in here, I'm currently playing Skyrim and had it installed on my 7200rpm Hard Drive Originally and I'd guess the load times were around 10 or 12 seconds (on the loads where they show you a Blade or Axe or Horse or something and a bit of infomation in the bottom right corner). I've moved the Skyrim folder to my SSD and I now don't even have time to finish reading the Infomation in the bottom corner, cut it down to around 3 Seconds to load anything.

So yeah, I know some people argue over £/GB but forgetting the size of the drive and viewing it as a component, you will not regret buying one. They are fecking rapid.

Side Note: I have everything turned to it's "Ultra" settings, 8 Samples AA, 16 Samples Anisotropic, Water Reflecting Everything, View Distance Showing everything including "Ultra" Distant Object Detail at 1440x900 (My Monitors Optimum :( ) and Its knocking out a cool 110fps average :D
