New Academy Players in the 22/23 First Team

Garner is the only one that's shown he's worth the step up. I think Williams has shown he's good enough to be depth.
We’ll considering Garnacho has just been called up to the full Argentina national team I can’t agree with you. We have some incredible talent in our academy right now and it’s just a case of them getting a chance imo. Granted all won’t cut it but I guarantee some would.

Let’s be honest that’s not completely on merit. That’s to secure him to Argentina National team. Do you really believe U23 performances are enough to get him called up in any other scenario?

Even if your right that in itself shows the talent he has. Argentina want to secure him as a future international. And as good as Garnacho is, he isn’t even our best youth player. It you watch our u23s it’s plain to see some of those players are too good for that level and just need an opportunity to prove it.

Maybe some are but I'm keen not to overrate them before they've even played a game at senior level yet. As of now, at senior level Garner is the only one that's shown it.

I'd argue the only one who's outgrown U23 football is Mejbri, who really should be either getting minutes with the first team or out on loan.

Yes Ive not seen enough youth football to really have credible comment, but looking at our players on loan and highlights of youth games, my limited conclusion are the likes of Garner, Williams, Amad, Pellstri at this point in time, really only add numbers and squad depth.....which we alrady have, replacing some of the crap in our numbers isnt neccarsarily a bad thing though.

I think some of our youth players look very talented, but lookign at the ages and limited footage I have seen, not seeing any bar Hannibal that I feel can add something YET to our first eleven. I would like to see him get on to the pitch for minutes from the bench jst so we can guage where he is at and how ready he is

I can appreciate that. For me I’m not saying we should flood our first eleven with youth players. Id like to see us offload a lot of the high earning egos plus the deadwood (we have a lot) and add a couple of signings along with using our talented youth as squad players. That way we are going to see them getting plenty game time from the bench. The ones who grab that opportunity with both hands will be that breath of fresh air we’ve been crying out for.

I totally agree.

As it stands we could see a lot of departures, and a lot of players that simply aren't good enough. We aren't going to replace them all with signings, so get some good signings in for the first team and rely on youth to fill out the squad. We'll likely be in the Europa (or Conference :() League so that'll give them valuable minutes.

Laird, Garner, Hannibal I can vouch for, I think they have it. Not seen anything of Garnacho but from what I have read and that one goal I saw he scored, he looks promising. From what I have seen of Iqbal, he looks pretty average as is Chong and Williams. A fee for them would be good business. I am in two minds about Mengi, I think he needs game time and a loan for next 2 years I think would be right. Not many CBs can hold down first team spots at 19, he needs to learn and play still. Galbraith I have been told by some, is the best talent we have, but that same person also had high hopes for Levit. I would suggest a loan, it does not appear that they are ready to make the switch. As for Amad, I think he looks incredible but I get the impression he is lazy or has an ego. I would like to see him loaned out for a year to a prem club. As for Pellistri, I like him and from what I have seen in pre season and Uruguay. At Alavez, he just looks like a spare nail, he's not that player to save a club from relegation and I think it was a horrendous decision to loan him back there. Saying that, I would add him to the squad as back up right winger, he feels more of a winger than Amad who i think may do better in the middle.

There's absolutely no chance Galbraith is the best talent we have. Good player, nothing special.

Would you have said elanga had outgrown the u23s? I don’t think many felt that way until he was given a chance. Some players rise to the challenge and others fall away. I’d love to see some of our most talented youth given that chance and see who grabs the opportunity with both hands.

Those that have played senior football and made an impression are most likely right now as it does sharpen their skills and accelerate their development. Hannibal has played plenty of games for Tunisia and should be getting game time this season, not sure why the likes of Jesse and Mata are coming off the bench when they are about to be released whilst we ignore Hannibal's development, specifically when we gave the reason for not loaning him in January as that we were integrating him into the first team squad.

Garner has kicked on and after 2 years in the championship is ready for a PL loan at the least and Levitt is showing the benefit of regular mens football as after a reasonably slow start he is now putting in match winning performances at Dundee United. This is what other clubs do with their youngsters and I would hope the majority of our current U23 lads are loaned next season to try and see if they can step up. I know we are likely ditching 10 or more first team squad members this summer but honestly the majority of the departures don't play much if it all and so there will still only be limited opportunity to promote youngsters here and a loan move is more beneficial than maybe a cup game or two and then back to the U23s.

Isn’t it about time we started to find out who of our youth players are up to it? This season is a write off and we have a bunch of players who are clearly on the way out in the summer. Let’s see our youth prospects thrusted into the first team and find out what their made of. We have an opportunity now that doesn’t come along often. 8 games with little importance in the most competitive league in the world. If we continue to play the same players we are going to be the most boring team to watch in the league. Bring in some young fresh hungry players and it may give the fans a buzz again and something to get excited about! We have nothing to lose and only the chance to gain!

If they have the talent, play them. Why do you need to loan them to PL? Some get loan and they hardly play, I don't see a point. Alex brought in Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Butt and Neville brothers. How about Ronaldo at 17? Alex bought him and decided to stick him in the squad. These young players are training with the seniors, as long as they pass the eye test then I say we play them. If they are good, they will adapt and improve day by day. Not like McTominay who hasn't improve since he came. I will look forward to a manager to bring young players to this squad. Arsenal fans must be excited with the young players that Arteta is bring in. That's what I want to see at Utd even if we can't make top 4 for 2-3 years. I am okay with them.

Totally agree, I would happily have 2 years of pain with a young team to see it develop and then reap the rewards. Our club is constantly more worried about short term success (cl money) than long term glory. We’re nothing like the team I took up supporting as a child, it pains me! I hope our new manager isn’t under so much pressure that he isn’t willing to play youth.

For FA youth cup squad, next season will be bit too early and i expect few in the squad only by the end of the season if we have nothing to play for.

Most likely Garner, Galbraith and Mjebri will be given chance in pre season. Outside shout would be Mcneill.

I agree with the sentiment, but I feel our club is so poorly strategised that we’re going to stick with what we have with the slim hope of making the top 4.

In any case, there’ll be a mini exodus of players in the summer - Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Cavani, are dead certs. Most likely Martial, Bailly, Jones and a goalkeeper too. That’s 8 players (Mason is neither here nor there currently) and we definitely aren’t going to market to sign 8 players so I hope we dip into our academy for the overall squad.

Mengi (and/or Tuanzebe) should be taking the minutes Bailly and Jones had for example. Similarly, Hannibal has been training with the first team for a while - it’s worth biting the bullet with him. Garner has been very good on his loan - it’s worth trusting him with the first team.

Let's hope Ten Hag starts to move his motivation towards developing our youth players, rather than try and teach this hopeless lot a bunch of new tricks. There's nothing to lose at this point, even if they're not quite up to standard yet neither are the current team so who gives a feck, at least it gives the fans something to be excited about.

Right. Use the youth, or die trying. He's fecked if he persists with most of the main squad of players anyway.

He won't unless injuries force his hand, like at Ajax.
