Nesta or Ferdinand?

I just love how before the WC started, everyone wanted Thuram at OT and stated Rio was too young and overpriced. Now, based on 3 or 4 games, Thuram is washed up and not worthy of wearing the United jersey while Rio is the next great defender in most opinions. I thought most of you lot always told the skeptics not to judge a player based on a one particular stretch of games. It will take Rio 2-4 more years to establish himself as a top 5 CB. Thuram may well be past it or just in one of those spells that many players go through. The entire French club was shit this summer. For my money, Nesta is the better investment. Let Blanc retire and bring in Ayala to partner Nesta.

Well spoken and spot on.

It will never happen, and I'll be glad when it doesn't. ;)

It's called players making a name for themselves in the biggest, more pressure packed tournament on the planet. You do understand such a concept don't you.

You're one of the main players telling others not to focus on 3 or 4 games. Hypocrit...

Ouch ! A biting critique from such a respected poster. ;)

Your predictably small minded interpretation of my views are well noted. Fact is, players careers can be made and broken at the WC. If a player shines on the brightest of all stages then it should be noted. In the case of Ferdinand, he's earned my respect over the past year, and I prefer him over the likes of Nesta or anyone else because he's capable, hasn't peaked yet, and is English.

Oh man, the World Cup shows which players can perform under great pressure. Well, according to the above post, United should be preparing bids for Miroslav Klose, Tony Sanneh, and Emile Heskey.

Oh, and according to the same comments, I suppose Keane should be sold cause Butt has "proved" he is capable of taking Keane's slot. And he did this in just 5 matches. Wow!!!

So Emile performed well did he? One decent half (by his lumbering standards) against Brazil is his claim to fame.

Rio has been masterful at the WC and only a fool would ignore that. When you add the fact that he is young, British, allegedly keen to come to Utd and his excellent performances for Leeds he would be my first choice signing if I were Fergie.
