He was like this for large parts of last season but people refused to see it. Protected somewhat by the fact we somehow finished second.

Best thing ever, imagine you playing a guy who clearly wasnt/isnt 100% ready vs others who are fit on the bench because he what, trusting him, has some credit in JM bank, to PROTECT a defense which is in his eyes really shit, if you read his moans during a summer, what!? Ivanovic MkII, loyalty is one thing but this naaaa
Imagine being a player who has no fear of being, guaranteed to finish every game regardless. Dream life :D

I would sacrifice a testicle to never see him in our midfield again. We got 2 good months out of him and that is it. I wanted him at the club and now I’m regretting ever thinking that way. He turns like he is an iceberg, takes a nap whilst he decides what pass to choose and then when he plays a pass it’s at walking pace.

One of his better games this season for me, but still some very disappointing moments with his passing. At least against Chelsea and Juventus he put his foot in a bit and won 4-5 tackles each game which is lightyears ahead of his earlier games in the season where he didnt do anything.
Watched a different game to me then.

Awful. Only positive for him was Lukaku was worse.

Had enough of this wet blanket. Our midfield is a shambles with him at the helm. Why the feck was Pereira dropped for better performances than the turd Matic has been putting in week in, week out.

And from that new player buzz.

People convinced themselves that Darmian was special after about 3 competent games.

The dangers of buying near 30 year olds for huge sums. £40M we paid and we need to replace him already. He was already on the way down at Chelsea but we went and picked him up. It's a shame cause I quite like the guy, but his body can't take 90 minutes every match.

I also believe he's still not properly recovered from his operation.

Absolute passenger. I'd rather have an over the hill Rooney in midfield than this chump.

For a defensive midfielder he doesn't half let people run off his shoulder without him realizing. Lost count the amount of times Dybala or Bentacur just ghosted passed him like he wasn't even playing ffs

Same, funnily enough in the same very moment mosquito bit me on the chick, slapped my self really hard in a attempt to kill it, still that backheel hurted more.

he'd been misplacing 3 yard sideways passes all night and then he suddenly decides in injury time to try a fancy fecking backheel.

This team is honestly braindead.

Awful signing.
This is why you don't' pensioners for big money.

This form has been going on for ages. He was weirdly immune to criticism last season. He starred well - which shocked me - but then faded badly.

Matic is trying but doesn't have the speed of tempo in his play, all comes back to the boss utilising him in the right game. You can't tell me Fred/herrera or Pereira wouldn't have give us pace chasing the game

He was very good initially but he's been declining since the start of this year. I think his best performance in 2018 was the Brighton FA Cup game where everything went through him but generally the ball is being played around him a lot. He's like an old man trying to keep the ball away from his grandchildren - eventually he'll do it but it takes a bloody age.

Its probably because I think he was so awful in most games this season where he wasnt even winning the ball much. Against Chelsea he made 5 tackles and tonight 4 which is a lot better. But he still wasnt any good. Just better than completely useless because at least he was a ball winner.

I try not to listen to Chelsea fans generally, but more than one of the beasts did grunt their insistence that Matic was past it after his serious injury a few years back. It appears they were correct.

Either he's downed tools, he's playing with an injury, or he's finished.
Not holding out much hope for good performances from him again. I'm sure we'll keep him well paid until the inevitable free transfer to the MLS.

Love him, but he is performing so bad it is frightening. I don't see why Lukaku, Matic etc. can't be rested when all parties would obviously be better for it. Its crazy

What the deal with him? He was amazing most of last season and looks like a shadow now. Did the surgery have an impact on his game? Does he need rest?

Mispass after mispass. Can't keep the ball. What's up with guy. Needs to be dropped immediately along with Lukaku.

You guys want to give Mourinho more money?

No chance, but I do like Matic.

In my opinion, we should bring Herrera back into the side as he is our best DM, and use Matic in a more box to box role. Whenever they've played together in the past, their roles have been the opposite so they haven't looked that good as a pair. If they were used this way, I think we'd benefit from it. Having Herrera on would probably give our FBs more freedom to get up the pitch, and our attackers more freedom to move about because, unlike Matic, Herrera covers so much ground and Matic would be there for extra cover, too.

Habib Beye (don't laugh, he's a superb pundit) nailed it last night on Canal+ when he said Matic's problem is that he slows things down pointlessly, he takes 3-4-5 touches to make a simple pass. Impossible to speed the play up with a midfielder like that

He wasn’t that good last year.

It's pure revisionism. The problem is, plenty went all out when we signed him - especially after the West Ham game - and slated anyone who didn't want him and we were all told we knew nothing about football, yada, yada. Funnily enough, the majority of these culprits are now nowhere to be seen, but the few that remain, will make out like he was brilliant last season, all to save face. Very petty really.

Been saying he was a weak link in the side since last season. He is Mourinho's pet so will carry on stinking the midfield up for the foreseable future sadly.

He's bang on, Matic is detrimental to our attacking play with his dithering at this point and a turnstile in midfield who doesn't track a single runner from midfield in the mould of Bad Schneiderlin. The usual caveats apply; our poor play is not solely his fault, most players would struggle in our team at present etc. but honestly what has he done this season to justify being picked every single game every single week?

If he's not fit from surgery and the WC he needs resting, if he's supposedly fully match fit he needs dropping because his form has fallen off a cliff. Why nobody at the club seems to be asking why we're getting nothing from him on or off the ball is one of this season's many mysteries.

Worst thing I reckon in his head the more touches he takes the more he feels in control and composed.

He wasn’t that good last year.
He was very good for the first 3 months but then his form dropped off the cliff as Jose kept playing him without fail even when he was visibly on his lest legs and run him into the ground. Imo Jose had a huge part to play in Matic’s gradual degradation by not managing his time on the pitch properly.

You could say the same for both him and Lukaku TBH.

Because they're his favourites he's run them into the ground.

It's crazy how immediately he was made a starter vs Tottenham, without preseason and after a surgery
