NBA 2021-2022

Pretty remarkable how bad Blazers currently are. I reckon they should be going all out for the tank this year, let Dame rest, not rush CJ back, trade some of the expiring pieces like Covington and Nurkic for some draft assets or/and young players. If Dame doesn’t like that idea, trade him as well. The team is going nowhere anyway.

Just checked, holy crap didnt expect them to be in such a minus.

Any 76ers players/assets that interest you?
Simmons, Maxey and 3 firsts (one from this year and a couple unprotected ones somewhere around 2026-2028) would be OK I guess. Pretty sure Morey will want Portland to add picks to give Simmons for Lillard though, would likely demand Lillard and two firsts for Simmons alone the way he’s gone about it so far. At a push he may want to do Simmons for Lillard straight which is still bad deal for Portland.

Missing Draymond. Giving up 41 points in a quarter is awful.

That was really awful. Closed out that game pretty well though. I laughed at the Jazz fans booing the MVP chants
Damn, that was a good win. Everybody contributed. Thought we'd blown it but this is a team that just doesn't quit.

Drama at Chelsea. Drama at the Rockets. Its been a fun week.

It definitely does speak to those fans who like to tank multiple seasons in a row as if players and managers aren't human. Nobody likes constantly losing and it's only going to have a negative impact on confidence, team morale and interpersonal relationships.

Giddey the youngest player in history to record a triple-double. As an OKC fan I don't think I need to tell you how much this means to us.

To be fair tanking or not, KPJ has a terrible attitude. It dates back to college, it was the reason he was selected at the end of first round despite being projected as a mid-lottery pick and was kicked off Cavs team last year (they traded him for nothing after a bust up).

Rockets haven’t really had years of tanking at all either. They blew up their team in late 2020 only.

I know but it's season 2 and KPJ and Wood have been part of the worst team in the NBA for a year and a half. KPJ has his own issues, but I'm just saying, losing all the time isn't exactly all fun and games. I'm not surprised there's friction and internal feuds when the team keeps going on these long losing streaks.

Wait until next season to put the banner up or??

He’s a fun player. I’m liking him and the current rookie class a lot. If he could sort out his shooting he may be one of top 2-3 players of that draft (competition is extremely good though with Mobley, Cade, Barnes, Wagner etc.).

ASAP. Just have to start the MVP campaign first.

He's an interesting player. Elite passer and great basketball IQ. Like you say, his ceiling will be defined by his shooting and scoring. A lot of work to do there but plenty of time for improvement.

I don’t think his shooting motion is terrible though. He’s a streaky but not terrible FT shooter and he doesn’t shy away from shooting 5-6 times in a game so I reckon he might eventually become a 36-37% 3-point shooter which would be enough.

Maybe. I think he has some issues with his stance when he shoots. It's hard to describe but his legs look too close together or something. His FT shooting is encouraging though. If he can get to that mid 30s in terms of 3-point percentage it would be huge. Ideally SGA will be the main scorer so Giddey doesn't have to become elite in that respect anyway. He may have defensive issues but he seems smart enough to become a competent team defender at least. With Dort and (hopefully) a good defensive big in the future I think the building blocks are there for a very high level team.

As much as I like Giddey, Mobley would have been such a perfect player next to SGA. Maybe it will be offset by getting Holmgren next year though, he’s supposed to be quite good.

I do like Thunder’s building blocks though. My favorite MyNBA team in 2K22.

did it come at the expense of team success to really keep the tradition alive?

What a weird half. Looked dominant at points and now only 5 up. Double digit leads just ain’t what they used to be (I think, I’m actually unsure of the data here  ). I guess being 5 up against a good team when Steph couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat for most of the half is a good thing.

GSW are favorites for a chip, i mean best player right now having 7pts 3/15 FG% 1/9 for 3s and they still lead by 10 vs very good Heat team, must be nice. SC % keep being really low for his quality, at first i thought it was due that record but seems not.

Steph's been below par for over a month now. Other guys came through though especially Wiggs and Jordan Poole. Like you said - odd game. Seemed completely in control and then you look up and with 4 minutes to go it's a 4 point game. A win is a win though. On to Dallas.

I actually thought he had returned to form after he was rested against Toronto: sure, scoring 30 at home to the Kings is a bit like playing tennis with the net down for him, but 46 against the Grizzlies and 33 in Phoenix on Christmas Day were certainly good performances. Definitely playing within himself the last few games though. Really lucky we have such incredible depth right now to carry him through: 39 assists in this game, for the second game in a row, is really something!

In some alternate universe OKC got Mobley with pick 3 and Houston fell to 5 allowing them to still pick Giddey. Kind of crazy how we ended up at 6 despite a 75% of a top 5 pick.

SGA, Giddey & Mobley.

Really hope Klay and Wiseman come back strong, would love for the GSW to win the ring after the last few years they've had.

Who needs Dame or CJ when you have Anfernee Simons???

Without being funny, I think trading all of our older players, going for 1-year tank and then rebuilding with Simons, Little and whatever we can get for CJ, Dame etc. is the way to go, absolutely. This current team is not fun at all at its best, and having a refresh is what we should hope for.

E.g. let's trade Dame for Simmons, Maxey and 2 first round picks. Trade Nurkic to Charlotte for one of their young players (PJ Washington would be ideal). Trade CJ to Cleveland for Sexton, Rubio and a pick. Trade Nance and Covington for whatever you can get, you will probably get a late first for Nance and a pair of seconds for Covington. Maybe get something for Powell too.

Then in a year your team may look like Simmons, Maxey, Simons, Little, PJ Washington, Sexton, one of the high lottery picks etc, and that's actually a proper playoffs team in a year or two + you don't need to pay ageing players a fortune.

EMBRACE THE TANK.

NBA scheduling is really irritating. Tonight the Pelicans play the Suns, then play the Warriors on Thursday. The Dubs play the Mavs tomorrow and then play their game against the Pels as the second night of a back to back to back. What is so annoying is that neither the Pelicans or the Warriors play again until Sunday after their Thursday night match up. So why the hell couldn't the game be played Friday to avoid the back to back. This is just one example but it happens all the time. Irritating.

This season is turning out to be one of very weird narratives.

Warriors were consensus 6th or 7th seed in the West pre-season and have been the best record in NBA almost all season so far.

But Steph is playing “terribly” (he is shooting badly from 3 since December but actually playing well), Wiggins is still the worst contract in the NBA (no one thinks he should be an all-star) and somehow Steph is playing with a stacked team at the same time.

Who thinks Wiggins is the worst contract in the league? There are others that are far worse.

I voted for Wiggins as an all star. He's been brilliant this year for the Dubs on both ends of the floor. I was really disappointed when he came over from the Wolves. I thought it was a huge, expensive mistake but he has just got better and better. The general consensus was always that the Warriors would use him as a trade piece to get a star. He has been so good that is now a non starter and there is no way the Dubs are looking to trade him.

Wiggins is not even top 5 in the worst contracts list
It's actually got to the point where it's not a great contract but it's not a bad one either.

19 pts per game on 49/44/70 shooting (he does need to work on that FT percentage) and a very good defender to boot.

Just for some context; Klay Thompson in his last full year with the Warriors had 21ppg on 47/40/82 shooting and Klay has been a star for the Dubs.

It's only a weird narrative in your head because none of that last paragraph is true or being pushed by anyone. No one thinks Steph is playing terribly. No one (this season) thinks that about Wiggins. And no one is saying the Warriors are stacked.

Bill Simmons actually did the discussion about bad contracts recently on his podcast and Klay made the list. Obviously in hindsight it’s turned out to be a bad deal but don’t think Warriors had much of an option
