Nature is wild

Yea exactly - it just shows how advanced the ancient Egyptians were that they were able to build a structure that is still standing and the next man made structure that beat it (height wise) came thousands of years later.

Not that their feat of engineering wasn’t amazing, but the technology to do it again was there, there just wasn’t a desire or need to build more pyramids. And of the pyramids, only the the Great Pyramid is truly astonishing because its chambers are inside the pyramid.

Not to mention the aliens.

The Fascinating Minds and Personalities of Bees

Stephen Buchmann's new book may surprise you in many different ways.

  • Bees can remember the shape, colors, and scents of flowers for several days and count up to four.
  • Bees exhibit social learning whereby they can learn by simply watching a hive mate perform a task.
  • Bug splats on a windshield record the end of life for myriad bees, flies, wasps, butterflies, and other pollinators.

I’m an advanced sommelier & passed WSET Level 3, but I’ve never heard of something like this before…

This is totally new for me:
Hammerhead sharks ‘hold their breath’

When diving for delicious squid in the cold ocean depths, scalloped hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna lewini) apparently ‘hold their breath’. Being fish, they don’t breathe as such, but they seem to shut off water flowing over their gills, to keep their bodies warm. It’s the first time such behaviour has been spotted. Heat loss from gills is a key weakness for diving fish, because gills are “essentially just giant radiators strapped to your head”, says shark researcher Mark Royer.

This also requires a picture of hammerhead shark, so here it is:

Nature is wild, and people are crazy. This team modified a vehicle to be near or in tornadoes. This is about 6 min long; can skip halfway through or so...around 4:40 you can hear them drop the vehicle to create a sort of shell on the ground (I think).

[edit] with the vehicle...

Crocodile found to have made herself pregnant

The first case of a crocodile who made herself pregnant has been identified at a zoo in Costa Rica.
She produced a foetus that was 99.9% genetically identical to herself.
The phenomenon of so-called "virgin birth" has been found in species of birds, fish and other reptiles, but never before in crocodiles.
The scientists say the trait might be inherited from an evolutionary ancestor, so dinosaurs might also have been capable of self-reproduction.
The egg was laid by an 18-year-old female American crocodile in Parque Reptilania in January 2018. The foetus inside was fully formed but stillborn and so did not hatch.
The crocodile who laid the egg was obtained when she was two years old and was kept apart from other crocodiles for its entire life. Because of this, the park's scientific team contacted a US team from Virginia Polytechnic, which specialised in virgin births, known scientifically as parthenogenesis.
They analysed the foetus and found that it was more than 99.9 % genetically identical to its mother - confirming that it had no father.

Twelve hours outdoor now in NYC with no mask is apparently as bad as smoking a pack of cigarettes.
Our building sent out an email this morning asking everyone to keep windows closed etc to prevent inhalation of unhealthy air. It's ironic because we've been trying to get them to move the smokers a little farther away from the front entrance of the building to prevent clients and workers from inhaling all that second smoke. They have pretty much ignored all our emails so we replied "all our lungs are already completely destroyed from the second hand smoke we are forced to inhale every time we exit and enter the building."
