Name three current Reds...

For pure hunger, talent, determination and heart it would have to be:

Keane
Beckham
Giggs

Keane, well we've all seen what the teams like without him. Butt has had a fantastic season and a great world-cup, is a great understudy to Keano but Keano just brings that little something extra. He always seems to be able to get that extra 10% from the team when its needed. Butt doesnt quite bring that same drive when Utd's one down and chasing a goal.

Beckham, doesnt have a worthy understudy at Utd. not even Veron. When he was fit he was getting better and better and i fully believe we would have won something this season if he hadnt got injured when he did. Creater & taker of goals & a damn hard worker for the team.

Giggs, purely for the speed & skill he brings to the United attack, and balance to the midfield. No-one at United can be a worthy understudy at present. Also a damn hard team worker.

There are players like Gary Neville & Scholes who IMO are almost as irreplacable, because of their own qualities and team play. The right side for example just isnt the same without Gaz and Becks linking up.

Contraversial statement: Ruud IS replacable. Theres goalscorers to be found everywhere. Especially with the amount of chances United usually create. Take Ruud out of the team, Ole will score. But if Ruud were to go (i hope not) then im sure Fergie will replace him with whoever he thinks is suitable to stick the ball away.

His performance last year was certainly comparably with Europe's other top strikers. Trezeguet, Henry, Raul etc. ;)

Keane

Everyone else is replaceable. When Keane doesn't play we generally don't perform as well.

On the other hand, if we're talking about the heart and soul of United, we can't afford to lose -
Becks, Ole, Butt, Scholes Gary Nev. and Giggs. Eleven world class players which didn't include these, would take something away from the soul of United.

What are we going to then when these are all past their peak?

Well obviously everyone has to be replaced eventually. I presumed the question was for the present time.

I know, and it probably was meant for the present time, but if they're going to be replaced eventually then they are replaceable now. We do have some world class players, but not all our players are world class, and sometime you have to shift the talent so that the balance of quality in the team is better. For example selling Veron to buy Rio. We like to think that we're the best team in the world but we're not, Real Madrid are, and this season even Liverpool finished ahead of us in the EPL. In this light everyone is replaceable, even Keano. Ireland didn't actually seem to miss him that much, and we won the CL final without him, just as life went on after Robbo. Obviously there aren't many players who could keep our central midfield so strong, but Butt and Scholes are great players in their own right, and there are other great players in the world - obviously Zidane and Butt would be quite comparable with Keane and Scholes. I'm not saying that is going to happen, just that everyone is replaceable because ultimately they will be replaced. I do hope though that with Keano it won't be on July 5th.

Not true that everyone can be replaced. We've been lucky - but there comes a time with every successful team when the replacements aren't up to it.

More a case of letting other clubs get the best players, either because they have more money (Real and Zidane) or they spotted them earlier (Leeds and Rio).

Well everyone else spotted Rio, so why didn't we.

Good question - maybe it was the 95% consistency tag. If we do sign him we've wasted a lot of money by not getting him first time around.

As a non-manc I'd have to say the players that I worry about facing most are:

1. Giggs
2. Solskjaer (as a sub)
3. Keane

May not be the same as 'irreplaceable' but they'd be the last three I'd get rid of. They are the hardest to nullify. Beckham has been marked out of games by the likes of Carragher (who you think is worse than Phil Neville) and I wouldn't call RVN irreplaceable as he's generally looked pants when asked to play up front on his own. Very, very few get the better of those three.

You hold on to that thought if he starts against you next season. :)
