Has been a revelation this season.

The new Ashley Cole? Have Arsenal and England found their new left back for the next 10-12 years? How high will he reach?

Scores on his debut and the first goal of the Tuchel era. Impressive.

Ashley Cole was a rock defensively from the very start. Elite level.

Lewis-Skelly is very solid in defence but his real strength lies in progressive passing, link up play, press resistance and a high technical dribbling level. A revelation in that sense, it seems like.

Looks brilliant.

This tracks because Arsenal fans tell me he was actually a midfielder in their youth set up.

It’ll be a good battle between him and Lewis Hall I would say, who was also a midfield maestro at youth level turned LB at the pros.

Seeing MLS make his debut for England and score is kind of surreal. It wasn’t even that long ago when I saw a video of his mum in the stands at the Emirates finding out her son is in the line up for a CL game for the first time and she was damn near in tears. This was only a few months ago. Now he’s an England goal scorer. Stuff of dreams tbh.

There's still the talk among Arsenal fans that we expect him to get moved up to midfield in the next season or 2. Of course a lot of that will depend on how he keeps performing at left back.

He's going to be Wayne Bridge to Lewis Hall's Ashley Cole.

Good player but Hall is really special.

Will all depend on what the manager at the time will want from his full back.
Traditional full back - Lewis Hall
Inverting into midfield full back - Lewis-Skelly
Centre Back at full back - Maybe Colwill?

England have a lot of good talent in a lot of positions. Hard decisions are going to have to be made before the WC.

What stands out more than anything is that he's absolutely fearless and willing even at this age to try to impose himself on matches, no matter the level or competition. Nwaneri has this too.

I think he will be a six in the long term, so long as he continues to grow as a player and he develops the necessary physique and engine for a PL midfielder. His ability to hold his own defensively at LB and then invert into midfield is really valuable. But his best qualities are his ability to keep the ball under pressure, to carry forward with composure, and to pick out forward passes. Ideally you want a player with those qualities to be the fulcrum of your buildup play, not a LB who jumps into midfield in certain situations while staying back or running out to the wing in others. But I could see him playing mainly as a LB/CM for the next 3-4 years as he continues to mature physically, especially if we buy Zubimendi this summer, and then becoming our regular 6 at age 21-22.
